wider might not the correct term, but what i getting at is that some corners you dont have to brake and shift down, just it is adequate just to shift down a gear. for example the 150r at the suzuka circuit can be driven at full speed with the correct gear ratio
*
end story it is track-based and comes down to try-and-error tongue.gif

usually if a track got many tight corners i tend to use short gear ratio for lower half and make it longer for higher gear, but not too wide. the wider, the slower car accelerates after gear shift due to torque lose.

for example, my McLaren GT LM top at 343 km/h at stock gear ratio at nurburgring. I max the final drive, change gear 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 to short, and set longer ratio for 4-5, 5-6, 6-7. top speed is 325-330 km/h but clocked faster lap time. it's different story if I slipstream another faster car brows.gif

keep in mind:
- short/close gear ratio give you higher torque between shifting, thus higher acceleration at the cost of lower top speed for those gear (and overall).
- high/wide gear ratio cost you lower torque between shifting, thus slower acceleration, but yield higher top speed for those gear (and overall).
- take into account highest top speed one could achieve at specific circuit, try get the top speed 1st by adjusting final gear ratio.
- then, while driving, take note of car acceleration, rpm and gear at corners (also how car behaves), try adjusting them to suit on those corners.
- try all those in auto mode. after nothing to do in auto mode, then move to manual mode...minor adjustment may required.
- happy drive!! biggrin.gif

usually i try to get gears for cornering at 3 and 4, sometimes 2. gear 4-7 reserved for sprinting on long straights. final gear usually set for slipstream on straights...but rarely occurs.

* if possible, make sure gear lines are overlap with one another, else, acceleration after shifting may suffer so much until the engine achieve desired torque again...could take very very long at higher gear.

evoHahn, Invince_Z,

Thanks for the tips. Just realised yesterday I'm talking wrong thing on adjusting. It is the Final-gear ratio.

Actually, how to determine what number to use for final-gear ? higher or lower ?
or based on what ? e.g. based on the last-5th ratio ? or average of the ratio ?
Is the final-gear more for achieve high speed on long straights ?

oh, means if the final gear ratio can set from 2.0 - 8.0 , then roughly set 3/4 = 6.5 ?

Different bro. With City Turbo starting 1st, the MX/GTS-t will only overtake the first car in lap 2.5 (middle of second lap) before it pulls away. Hence, still can catch up.

Without City Turbo starting 1st, the MX/GTS-t will immediate pull away from 1st lap.

Last night I try again with Miata '89 (NA) Special, try put the final gear at max (8.0 ?) and speed at 180km/h. Seems it hit top speed around 163km/h at the end of the last long straight (Tsukuba) which is nice, as need to brake and go into corner. But time performance, not much diff for my lousy noob driving sweat.gif

btw, what is the PP of your car?

and dont think without City Turbo infront it was easy peasy for me. It took me 2 hours and 3 cars just to win the race in that vid.

I set 420pp maximum allowable sweat.gif noob mah... then cycle the reload until City Turbo is 1st, then can gold. But that also, overtake in last few corners.

Without City Turbo, it took me ~2 hours also, but only 2nd place +0.48x seconds sweat.gif
Still can't get first. This one using Mugen Motul. Will keep trying and dupe another car without engine upgrade stage 3. Also will try apply the final gear tips.

I see. I think the game auto adjust the difficulty since you are using the max PP while I only get miatas and city turbos in my races since i use cars that have lower PPs.

At first i used FF cars, but i found that eventho i maxed out the engine tuning, the car still slow because the car struggle to transfer the power to the track. I think FR cars are more suitable for these events.
