QUOTE(hyelbaine @ Jun 30 2013, 04:48 PM)
One of the biggest misconception for people that invest using ASB loans is that banks will always sell the idea that the returns include bonus as absolute when it certainly isn't. The calculation of ASB bonuses are not as straight forward as dividends and lumping it together to show how 'healthy' the margin is a blatant lie in my humble opinion.

Investors should always understand that interest rates are not static and will always move. Personally, if your margin is less than 3% excluding the bonus, you're not leaving much room to manouver when you're tied down with a long tenure because the OPR will shift given the fact that interest rates are currently very low.

My 2 cents...

Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) has succeeded in attracting over 240,000 new unit trust account-holders in the first five months of the year to increase the total to 11.48 million.

Chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid said that via promotion programmes at various levels, PNB was confident it would attract the younger generation to invest and help them plan for their financial future.

“As at May 31, the fund size had increased by 13 billion units to 167.4 billion units through new investments and re-investments.”

based on my bank manager's advice, i took out a 100k loan for a very short 5 year tenure

after 1 yr, now banks are sending me cards w/o my approval. stupid banks. if want to send me cards oso dun send me mc world or visa infinite with just 10k limit...  laugh.gif
anyhow, the 100k i w/drew was placed in AS1M fund, as explained before, for leveraging purposes

now, instead of just earning 8% from ASB, i earn a total of 9.3% for the 100k sum, after deducting the interest rate  smile.gif
*
I don't like when the banks would send all kind of "rubbish" to me. Offering me Insurance (they even given me insurance account number), calling me on my h/phone, Pre-Approved card etc.

Anyway, it's good decision to use your 100k loan to invest in as1m. ASB already max out? hmm.gif What my understanding, those already max ASB would be investing in as1m smile.gif

Enjoy your dividend compounding effect after few years biggrin.gif

Just looking at old thread V2. Saw a lot of people commented that AS1M Non-Bumi portion won't be sold out, expected dividend rate only 4%, suspicious why gomen open so many scheme etc. That time a lot of people don't wanna invest.

Now year 2013, AS1M non-bumi portion already sold out. Some people are going to the ASNB offices & banks daily to ask if there's any unit available. No one expected this scheme to be sold out smile.gif

Yape, I managed to pump in most of my monies into the AS1M account during the time where everyone is so negative about the fund..

Unfortunately, when the fund first declare the dividend, everyone of the non-bumi rushed in to invest, making it full now..

As for ASW2020, I did not have the account so i dont even have the chance to trial and error at the counter unlike ASM and AS1M which I have the account and can try over the counter..
*
Good decision to invest in as1m rclxms.gif
I think as1m already sold out even before the 1st dividend announcement. I think April / May 2010 already sold out hmm.gif

Too bad you don't have ASW. If not mistaken in year 2007 & 2008, ASW2020 opened for additional units. That's time we need to go early morning. Some people started to Q at 4am doh.gif

that's why i feel sad for my fello bumiputra friends

got money, go buy cars, hp and gadgets, holidays, vacations, and other tangible purchases

don't want to invest in AS1M, let alone ASB. others are fighting for the tiny funds left from the non-bumi quota...
*
So true. Got some friends after get some "windfall", change new car & go overseas holiday.
One I could see is that there's some positive improvement over the years. Nowdays the trend is changing, but not so fast.

Yape, i dont have the chance to even open the account... Lol... The last time when they launched the additional for subscription for ASW2020, I reached the post office at about 6am.. Well, by the time i reached there, the queue is already frightening.. Haha...

Some of the people bring their fold-able chair, some bring their coffee, newspaper, performing their morning routines over there outside the post office..

I am hoping to have at least a chance to open the account but the chances are very slim. I even went to the ASNB office to ask whether i can try to bank in to open account, but they tell me that i need to have at least an account to enable me to trial and error to deposit monies into the account. No account, no talk..  blush.gif
*
You should have gone to ASNB office. They opened more counter & faster service smile.gif

Anyway it's too late. Better luck next time (if asnb ever opened again asw2020 or others scheme for additional subscription).

Yesterday (03.07.13) my wife went to maybank to open AS1M and the counter girl mentioned that there is no available unit for non-bumi.

My wife shows the proof that she is Bumi and able to open the acct.
*
One thing I don't like about the banks is that the counter staff are very lazy & don't like to "layan" you if you ask about asnb scheme. They would give all kind of excuse which sometimes make people angry.

I think the Maybank staff think your wife is non-bumi & they gave her lots of excuse (because they lazy to check if there's any available units for non-bumi). After showing she's bumi, then only they agree to do the transaction.

Even the so called Amanah Saham 1Malaysia has Bumiputra quota... how to be 1 Malaysia with racial quota system ?
If the Bumiputera has no money to buy, give other races a chance to prosper.

It is for those bumi that already max ASB. I don't think asnb would "open" the quota anytime soon.

QUOTE(abhipraaya @ Jul 5 2013, 10:36 AM)
I have the personal opinion that:
Having a racial quota system is fine as it gives ALL races the chance to invest.
- If there is no racial quota system, all the units will be 'sapu'ed by any economically well off community within matter of hours/days and deprive others (who are equally keen, but simply need the time (to come up with the cash) to invest.
- Everyone wants a piece of the economic cake, just that some communities need to have the hard cash available to buy these units. Eg. The indian quota was only recently filled up second quarter of 2012, it shows that they are very keen to invest, but they only needed a bit more longer time. If there was no racial quota, the indians would be deprived from investing.

Perhaps,PNB may open up to everyone (after a reasonable number of years) when a particular racial quota has not been filled up after a very long time.

I think that AS1M holds to the 1 Malaysia spirit.

Just my opinion! smile.gif

AS1M better than ASW?

Past few years both pay almost same dividend rate.

ASW2020 got longer history compare with AS1M.

One is launched by Dr. Mahathir, Another by Najib Razak. Both Managed by ASNB.

You decide which is better biggrin.gif
