this is my idea...at least no need to wreck a fridge just to DIY a chiller, which IMHO is much more expensive than to buy an actual chiller itself...

the problem is, the coleman icebox will not give a continuous temp dropping. let say, the ice become water.not cold anymore. you may take time to replace the ice. i afraid the temp swing will affect the faunas.huhu. than the maintenance too high lor. metal tubing, that is conductor of heating transfer is titanium, aluminum and copper. the most cheap is copper. aluminum, too expensive.huhu. this is just my point of view.huhuhu. i hope you not mad with me.huhu
*
that is why must get electronic temperature controller, with probe inside water...

u connect the ETC unit with water pump, n set it to kick in(activate water pump) when temp let say, go above 26, n then cut off let say, when it goes below 25...

ice inside coleman will last long, since there is no direct contact of water from aquarium with the ice in the coleman

QUOTE(sang gemok @ May 15 2012, 03:49 PM)
i got my fridge for rm120 only. hehehe.
then i cannot say anything anymore...by all means, DRILL THAT FRIDGE!!! biggrin.gif

somethings are just not meant for DIY tongue.gif

*peace* to all...

not to pour cold water, but its really too difficult to DIY chiller. DIY fan to cool the aquarium is ok, but to DIY a chiller is really too big project to justify its costs.
*
sometimes DIY is not just to cut cost, like me, i DIY alot (not just aquarium stuffs) because 1. it is fun, 2. because i like to DIY (i come from the generation where we watch MacGyver on TV n aspire to become like him when we grow up biggrin.gif) n 3. because i believe i can do it... biggrin.gif

QUOTE(yweising @ May 15 2012, 04:38 PM)
the water temp may increase once the water flow thru the water pump before reaching the tank. unless u put the water pump, but then again the water pump will generate heat in the box.  hmm.gif
*
metal tubing is only in tank and in coleman ice box,

rest of it is ?plastic? hose insulated with black foam material used to insulate aircond copper tubing to minimise heat pick up from ambient temp...

inside coleman ice box is filled with water, n cooling come from ice in water bottles, so when ice melts, just put water bottles into freezer n re-ice-ify it, no need to throw water away from coleman ice box...

water pump can put inside coleman itself...

no la... this is just my idea only... something that we can discuss in this thread... in malay we call it 'buah bicara pembuka kata'...lol

i wont be doing it oso coz im away from home, doing something like this requires alot of space, time and various tools, which none of it is in my possession at the moment...

but who noes, maybe when i go back to my hometown after finish study, ill probably DIY a chiller...n probably the one that use refrigerant not just TEC one... but that is in the future biggrin.gif

guys... forget about diy chiller... look what i had just achieved with my DIY fan... i will let my picture tell the rest of my story...  biggrin.gif

sometimes this kind of thermometer is a bit wacky...i got one similar to urs, mine turns out to be 1 deg lower than actual temp (explains why my temp never goes above 26 deg C, even during hot day)... found it out after i 'borrow' lab thermometer from my uni just to calibrate the thermometer... of coz i returned back the 'borrowed' thermometer tongue.gif

but if ur thermometer is indeed accurate, then kudos to u... biggrin.gif

hahaha. i LoLed reading your posts.hahaha. funny lor. huhu. ya lah. we all stop discussing after you send your thermometer pic.hoho. you bewitch us with the pic wor.huhu. hehehe. so, on today disscussion, please pick one. the epic want ofcourse la.huhu. you beat my chiller theory yesterday with your fan theory with proof.hoho. so, other discussion please. hohohoh.  tongue.gif
*
Actually the discussion was killed before that itself...muehehe...

It is doable...downside is cost...

TEC model one, i guesstimate the cost to be ard 400 to 500, based on part price in internet stores...of course if one could source the part in malaysia, the cost would dramatically decreased...i guess...

N TEC makes heat as much as it lowers it...after it reach its optimum working capacity, ir dramatically become inefficient...

The poor mans/troll science chiller, i derive the idea based on 'red-neck ac unit'...it seems to work, so aquarium chiller should do too...of course one needs to actually DIY it 1st b4 knowing it...

which reminds me of something with the chiller... last time i tried to clean a fridge because the back of the fridge is full of ice. i use screw driver and try to break away all the ice but accidently made a hole in the wall of the fridge. then... pssttt.... gas come out, fridge no cold adi... lol... dun think can make hole on the fridge bro...
the one u poked is the evaporator unit... which is at the freezer part of a fridge...

i dun think a fridge's evaporator unit spans the whole body of a fridge, usually just at the top part/freezer part... body of fridge usually just insulating material... this is based on my observation tho... if need concrete fact, you need to find the servicing manual n read it thru... icon_rolleyes.gif

actually, can i know does anyone here worry about the water KH or GH? been reading about it lately.

a bit mumbo jumbo actually :
http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/ph/11354...-aqauriums.html
*
kinda...but i dun hav test kit for gH n kH...so just leave it for the time being...furthermore fishes in my tank are rated hardy, (or can be 'abused' a little... tongue.gif )

my logic, unless ure keeping very expensive, sensitive fishes such as altums or discus, then u can worry less about kH n gH...

just my worthless 1/2 kupang opinion btw icon_rolleyes.gif

edit:- anybody doses phosphate in their tank? can recommend me any good product for dosing phosphate?

hmm guys. my glosso seems to be growing at a super slow rate. anything u guys think i might be doing wrong?
*
either not enough light, not enough fert or not enough CO2.. mine was super slow last time.. put fert n CO2 n they fill up (well..almost) my tank relatively quick(i think)... i measure the growth of single stem ard 0.5 to 1cm per day...(yes... that is how 'lifeless' i am...hehe... biggrin.gif )

QUOTE(shinshishio @ May 17 2012, 05:01 PM)
khaki & yuzu? khaki can be obtain on cameron highland. while fro yuzu, i get it from my friends who works at japan. good for spa too  blush.gif

not all mini puffer are brackish water inhabitant.  if we said MINI puffer. yeah a lot of this species requires brackish water. the one im keep in all tanks which is known as INDIAN DWARF MINI PUFFER, arent' brackish type.  only.. the big puffer i had in my tank it is.. er.. not brackish water anymore. but salt water   laugh.gif

thanks to usermode back then at 2009 thread. he mention about a-weird-bengkok-fin fish.and since then, i start to do some further research on how to keep this tank in my community tank. now 2012. so i can say, several mini puffer can be force to  stay in community tank without killing other fish and invertebrate by using separeted method.

just separated them after their mommy give them birth. try it. you can put a shrimp together with them. but not shrimp fries. and top above that. this force method is suitable if you want to keep your mini puffer from nipping other fish tail.

not so hard to keep them. unless don't super force them to puff. or you'll regret to keep them in community tank   icon_idea.gif

just my 2 cent based from my experienced  smile.gif

uuu... i tot u dose from bottle...see2 need to perah sendiri pula... no wonder cant find yuzu/khaki juice in bottle in almost every supermarket i went... T_T
