Sony XPERIA U™
INTRODUCTION
Sony just unveiled two new Android handsets to complement its Xperia smartphone line. Called the Xperia P and Xperia U, both phones run dual-core CPUs, and sport the snazy design found on the Xperia S. Expected to ship this week in Spain, the devices will also feature NFC chips and strong multimedia capabilities.

Sony has officially announced the Xperia U, the company’s latest Android smartphone and the first to debut at Mobile World Congress under the newly-created Sony Mobile Communications brand. A smaller version of the Xperia S and ion launched at CES last month, the Xperia U has a 3.5-inch Reality Display along with interchangeable chin sections to customize it to your liking.


Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA engine makes another appearance, boosting graphics during video playback and gaming, and there’s a 5-megapixel camera on the back. That shoots 720p HD video, rather than Full HD; if you want the latter, you’ll need to step up to the larger, more expensive Xperia S.

Sony will be offering multiple color options of chin section, including a shocking pink and a more sedate black to match the rest of the handset. Meanwhile the translucent button strip can change color to match the on-screen theme, as well as to match the predominant color in your photos.

UK carrier Three has already confirmed that the Xperia U is headed to its network soon - Sony says mid-Q2 - and offered up the following hands-on video. We’ll have our own hands-on, together with more detailed specs, shortly.

SONY XPERIA P™
INTRODUCTION
Keeping in line with the rest of Sony’s NXT handsets, the Sony Xperia P will sport a minimalist design with a precision crafted aluminum body. It will sport a 4″ display that is powered by Sony’s “WhiteMagic” technology, which will help with displaying images under bright sunlight, but will also provide twice the level of brightness when compared to other smartphones, or so Sony claims.

Under the hood, the Xperia P will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor under the hood with 16GB of internal storage, and it will also sport an 8MP camera with Sony’s Exmor R sensor, a “fast capture” feature which company boasts will allow the user to go from lock to camera in a second, and the ability to capture Full HD 1080p quality videos. The Xperia P will also come with a Smart Dock accessory, therefore turning your device into a multimedia center. This isn’t exactly new technology, but it will be interesting to see how Sony plans to differentiate themselves from the competition.

Last but not least, the Xperia P will include NFC support that is compatible with Xperia SmartTags, accessories which when used together with the phone’s NFC function will launch a series of actions at once. In the example used by Sony, imagine if you were to go for a run but instead of launching an app one by one, tapping the Xperia P against the SmartTag will launch all your preset apps at once. A handy feature, we have to admit, and in a way they could thought of as macros.

The Sony Xperia P will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread preinstalled, but fret not as the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update has been planned for the device. The phone will be available in three different brushed aluminum finishes and is expected to roll out in Q2 of 2012. No specific dates were mentioned nor pricing, but we expect those details to be made available further down the line, so check back with us then if you think that the Sony Xperia P is the phone for you.

Xperia P body is made in aluminium, and back design top there slightly difference.
Guess So, In short, Battery consumption will depends on the phone specs.

Hurm, dunno why sumhow i felt so frustrated wit xperia p, i concern bout the aluminium, sure it is pretty but hope it wont hav issues wit signal n wireless connection like the asus transformer prime.
I also hope the design wil be different too.. hurm no memory slot im bit sad.. same like s. I was really expected the xperia p wil lok like the rumor xperia p(arc like design). Gues i c how things goes frm now on.

the aluminium body is awesome..

just wonderin will the aluminium body of xperia p give signal issues and wifi issues like the asus tansformer prime. coz that asus tablet problems r coz by the aluminium finish.. really hope no technical problem like this from sony. like my xperia arc got crack issues.

Common Sony you can do better job with your own design

They cant avoid it, sony just bought over ercisson few weeks ago they cant vomit a phone out just like that. If you seen the prototype of the xperia P it still carries Sony Ericsson name. If you really want a real sony phone, wait until end of 2012 or 2013.

I think the Aluminum body is fine.
coz the transparent line will act as the antenna and the aluminum body will not distract the signal.

At least this is better than a black rounded rectangle phones from other manufacturers.

No lah .. according to what you wrote in the previous post, Xperia S > Xperia P by less than RM 100; and Xperia P > Xperia U by less than another RM 100.

the legend have plastic part that function as antenna.
this phone have the transparent bar for that.

I'd consider getting the S if the price is right (dual core in 2012) but the unveiling of the huawei ascend d quad has tempered my enthusiasm towards the xperia phones somewhat.

i definitely will choose P (if the price is ok), i dont need a quad core to run whatsapp or browse web. Dua core is more than enough for my daily needs.

The reason i am saying it is that, though having a dual core 1Ghz with OLED display somemore, Panasonic still managed to slot a 1,150 mAh battery. Shocking enough?

XPERIA P is using White Magic display. According to Sony, when used in the regular mode, its White Magic display uses up considerably less battery than other conventional LCDs.

I'm wondering if Xperia U transparent belt can blink according to ringtone beats like Nokia 3220 It will be much better than changing the color according to the color dominance on the screen. So distracted I would say in the long run... especially when viewing slideshow (I bet this can be switched off).

xperia U should be 1.3k or so oni.More than that,I thinkk its gonna be pretty hard to sell .But really dont know since so far,I dont think there is any novathor based dual core phones on sale,so can really estimate malaysian RRP.Nevertheless, xperia S should be out by end of March I think,so we will than know how is SE going to price these phones.

Xperia U is still a dual core phone right? A dual core phone @rm999/1099? Thats actually very good. But the price is hard to believe considering there is such big difference from U to P but only a miserable rm200 from P to S. Those who were initially aiming for P might as well just top up the rm200 to get the S?

I wanted to S in the beginning, but later learn it's price (rumored) is higher than I think it should be, I shift to P. Now P is almost as high as S, I might as well get S
