According to my hardcore racing friends in AUZ, most "self learning" ECU study from their past appx 480km(thats the most record the ECU keep, normally less than 500km). And for your information, the learning process is NOT actually learning or artificial intelligent. The ECU will take all the readings from all the sensors, group the data together with the travelling distance/speed to come up with a set of "customized" data for your vehicle. Reason of doing this is, your ECU will try to adjust running fuel at certain RPM in conjunction with your current gas pedal volume.

I called up to my friend in Ipoh, he's also another hardcore PROTON tuner. According to him, there is another set of EPPROM in the ECU which record WATER TEMP, INTAKE VALUE and several important data. When mechanical failure, PROTON SC plug in their monitor so they know whether the engine has been tempered/overheated/overloaded/wrong fuel being added. This group of mechanical data only stores the most recent date of occurred/how many times occurred. So, its like a log book for mechanical failure. This part of the ECU memory is UNeraseable to keep track of all the prior incident. If you managed to read the data in this part of the ECU, you'll understand whether you wanna buy a 2nd hand car with previously overheated engine for 2 months straight still not going for radiator flush.

However, both parties gave a same conclusion, regardless of the learning process, ECU will 1st recognize aggressive driving. Regardless how you train your ECU to save petrol, when you floor the gas pedal, the engine will get the signal of adrenaline rush. This is standard to all ECU for emergency purpose. In case if there is a need to floor the pedal, and your car beehive like a beeyotch, think you're gonna set your car on fire on the spot. So, their only advice is, we actually MAY NOT be able to train the ECU to save petrol, but its possible to make a makcik's daily marketing BLM to move faster. For those who complain drive by wire, just floor the damn thing and your CAMPUR engine shall immediately response and start roaring!

Not conclude yet. Since everybody talking about 2k shift up, so I'm trying it now, see whether it helps my fuel efficiency.
I collected the car with emptied fuel tank, so I got a bottle and fueled my car just nice to reach the petrol station. The 1st full tank I fueled my baby with RM63! I didn't manage to record the 1st tank because I don't know how to reset the trip, and I also didn't bother to record the initial value, but I was shocked after I traveled very short distance only. Not that I can remember I had to refill my WIRA1.6 in 2 days time! So, from there I started to record my BLM until today. I fully understand your theory and I totally agreed with it. I was doing that on my 2nd tank of petrol, and I've got less than 10km/l. However, I believe I'm still new with drive by wire, that could cause the inefficiency. I'm trying to TUNE myself in now. Meanwhile, I read it here, can't remember who told they shift within 2krpm, so I thought of give it a try with following 2 tank of petrol. I believe by the time I finish the 1.5 tank of petrol, I already pass the 480km ECU memory threshold. Logically, by the time I'm using this technique on my 2nd tank of petrol, half way I should see the effect, and my fuelly should increase my km/l on my 2nd tank. However, if my 2nd tank still goes between 10~12km/l, I shall dump the idea and search for another holy grail.
