DIY tutorial on how to ruin a perfectly good tool. smile.gif

BTW, where is the smoke coming from. The motor wires?
*
The smoke come from the motor insulation where the wire stator overheat and burn it. When continue with it, the wire will short to the stator and bye bye your tool.

I was looking at the B&D RTX rotary tool and it's just under RM100 in the US vs RM300+ here.
That's 3 for 1 rclxub.gif

How is it thing are so cheap there?

Currency power.

Current or money?
(eg Amperage or Leverage? tongue.gif )
I would think the market for 240V tools is bigger than 110V
*
The currency power is what make thing cheap to have. I earn US100 and I can buy a tool. You earn RM100 but you still can't buy a tool.

Money is just the amount you have. Rich or poor.

The issue isn't "currency power".
I have to pay USD30 for the B&D tool in the US but pay USD100 for same in Malaysia
Using your currency power example, US customers can buy 3 units for USD100 but I can barely buy 1/3 with RM100
So now US customers can earn more, pay less, get more.
No wonder they can afford to abuse a perfectly good tool for show and tell.
Question is why is so much cheaper there?
*
This 1 is a rippoff from many hand before reach you. Import tax --> macam macam tax--> sale tax-->distributer profit --> you.

Another is the amount quantity they can get. Like wallmart, they have thousand of shopping center. They go direct factory order container size. They handle all by themself. So they can have cheap sale and nobody can control their price.

Last year when I holiday in aus, a must for me to visit the burnning store. Is it a big size like factory hardware tools shopping center. And almost every town have 1 of this store. Thing are cheap and they having sale. The price you can't believe here. It is heaven store for me. drool.gif Pokai go in there. sweat.gif

Tq... but, not that good la. I need to pull the trigger and release it quickly. The spindle keep spinning due to the inertia, and it tighten the screw.

I still can pull the trigger delicately enough NOT to invoke the impact mechanism, and stop accordingly, just like what the powered screw driver.

But, we are human and we may make mistakes... That's why, an advanced impact driver has several modes to suit the needs. No need to say, it's cost.....  smile.gif

Added on May 21, 2012, 1:27 pmYes, threre are more appropriate power tools for this task. The Makita DF030 or simalar drill driver with CLUTCH, which limits the torque accordingly, preventing any damages.
We can still use the impact driver for delicate tasks, but use the varible speed control trigger wiesely.. If you don't any confident, don't use impact driver, and use the drill driver instead or,... hand tools such as the screw driver. smile.gif

The electronic appliance, Sony DPS M7 which I showed has 15 screws, and twisting the screw driver is quite tiresome for 'old' person like me. smile.gif Beside the appliance, I also use the impact driver to dissamble front loading washing machine, and has .... many screws to deal with.
*
Just get what JinXXX have. Combo set with drill and impact. Can cover every expect of drilling. Good price too.

I already have the impact driver. smile.gif, and it did excellently in any tasks. smile.gif    No need of the drill driver for now, yet. smile.gif
Let's see what JinXXX opinions about drill driver (DF030) and the impac driver (TD090).

Thank you.
*
Just like me. I already have the bosch corless screw drill with torque selector. Good for drilling and screwdriver. No need impact type. smile.gif

JinXXX set very tempting for the whole package.

I just found a YouTube channel showing how do a typicall basic DIY. as a reference  Unfortunately it is in Japanese, and you can see the operator's hand... seem to be very OTAI. Some of us might not understand the Japanese, but, just wacth and  learn.

All the power tools were Makita products. Look old and had being beaten up. As we can see, the OTAI also has a very good trigger control.

They are very good in skill. My mechanical sifu is an oldman japanese and teach me alot of drilling skill. How to handle the drill precision and drilling precision. Many time kena ketuk my head by him when forget. tongue.gif

Pilot hole ; Agreed. Pilot hole can gives more precise hole location.

LED work light. Yes, single LED is good but, it also produces shadow.  But still better than nothing.  smile.gif  BTW I do not rely on the impact driver's LED, because I am using a very bright head light when working at low light or dark places smile.gif Seriously it is more convincing, effective and useful.
*
Pilot hole too can prevent the wood from crack if you screw in the bolt. Specially hard wood and big diameter screw. It is easy for you to screw in too and doesn't require high torque. Which will sometime damage the screw or the driver.

In metal side, pilot hole is a must. For precise and drilling a big diameter hole. Without pilot hole, you can't drill a big hole.

The led at my bosch cordless drill is useless. I rather it save a watt and use it at the motor. biggrin.gif

BUMP this post up.

Got myself an IKEA cordless drill. RM 149, enough for light work. I even use it to take down one door and do some adjustment. Torque wise so so, but enough to do basic things. But is light 1.4KG
*
A typical cordless drill for screw or some small drilling job, 100N torque should be enough. That enough to twist your hand if you don't hold it strong.

Get those torque adjustable. Pretty common now I guess.

I see those cordless type mainly the price fall on the type of battery. Lion type and big capacity is the most expensive.

I am using a 27Nm only china brand.
Cant imaging how powerful a 100Nm driver.  drool.gif
*
100N is not strong. That is only 10kg force. 30Nm is only enough for me to tighthen a SS bolt to the panel. And 100N is good for drilling.

I m using this --> https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2234276/+40

like a month ago i walked pass this hardware shop n saw a van promoting this power tool...
i've never seen or heard b4 in msia..
curious, so i went to check it out...
the outside built quality looks n feels good, not like dca or cap ayam...

google found...
this worx is from a company called positec - based in china,
http://www.positecgroup.com/our_brands/worx-diy
product sold all over the world, reviews on utube, amazon etc...

this 3 in 1 tool, u have
1- normal drill function with led light...
2. 2 speed screw driver with clutch
3. impact driver

it doesn't have a chuck, its using a hex like all other impact driver...

i would have bought this if i haven't bought a new bosch impact driver...

this brand is still new in msia... so distribution is limited...

if u search worx in mudah u will find a company powerworx in puchong...
that is the distributor... the price they put is list price..

scroll down a bit u will find a hardware shop selling this tool for RM 670...

oh yah... the dist said they giv 1 year warranty... compared to 6 months by bosch n others...
*
RM670 is at the high side with unknown brand. Somemore china brand.

Another RM100 can buy what jinxx brought --> https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2234276/+280

Tht is two gun, this one gun, u check how much is a makita 3 in 1 combi tht is available in/for msia.. not us model...
Models for usa is lain cerita over here in msia...

Aft checking worx/rockwell products at amazon usa, these r no dca.. their stuff quite innovative...
*
The value for money. 2 gun with such a nice makita set it only cost rm750+. While the worx 1 gun already cost rm670. This is not a power tool that I can do alot of thing with it.

As long as I can buy it, it is not lain cerita. If I cannot buy, than I m talk kok.

Hitachi tool (Hilti), makita and bosch is the trust brand power tool. If I can afford, I will get the hitachi.
