Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period. Sure, it's not perfect -- we're disappointed that the camera doesn't deliver the same wow factor as the rest of the handset. It's an alright shooter, but it's just no match for the state-of-the-art. There's also room for improvement in terms of build and materials quality. Still, there's no denying the satisfying look and feel, the stunning display, the impressive performance, the excellent battery life -- the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone ever made. It's one of the best smartphones ever made, and with a couple of minor tweaks (particularly to the camera), it could be the best smartphone ever produced.
Still, there's really not much to knock here. The hardware is elegant and smartly designed. The software is beautiful and useful. Google has cleaned up a lot of the bad, and replaced it with a serious amount of good. It's faster, smarter, and a lot more friendly than any of its predecessors. Ice Cream Sandwich easily gives iOS and Windows Phone a run for their money, and in many ways, it's a superior operating system than either of them. If there's a bone to pick, perhaps it's with the size, which could be off-putting to some, or the fact that right now the only carrier you can definitely get the phone on in the US will be Verizon. But those are minor blips on the radar, not show stoppers.
Since day one, I've been waiting for an Android device that lived up to the promise of such a powerful OS. I think I can stop waiting now. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is so important again because it's the only time Google gets to dictate everything - the hardware, the software, and update timing. There's also the element of freedom, with unlockable hardware out of the box. I find myself wishing that Google had begun its adventure sticking it to the carriers with pentaband WCDMA support like this phone finally has, as that would've been much more successful than the practice of releasing a few different Nexus variants with different bands.
As far as Ice Cream Sandwich is concerned, it really is Android perfected. Everything is smoother, faster and nearly all of our issues with the OS have been addressed. ICS brings Android into 2012 and gives Google a great platform to begin to introduce new features going forward. Android is now very close to UI performance parity with iOS, which eliminates a major tradeoff you had to make in the past. If you were hoping for ICS to be iOS with a Google logo on it, you'll be sorely disappointed. However if you're a fan of Android and just wished it were smoother and more polished, Ice Cream Sandwich is what you've been waiting for. Full review here.

Make no mistake, this is the best Android phone around today. It’s impossible to divorce Samsung’s hardware from the Ice Cream Sandwich experience, for the moment at least. That may change as more manufactures offer Android 4.0 phones, but for now it’s tough to think of going back to a Gingerbread or earlier device. ICS’ finessed software works beautifully with Samsung’s hardware and – with the exception of the camera, perhaps, which can be a minor blot on the Galaxy Nexus’ score sheet – the sum of the two parts is massively compelling. While there were some hardware complaints, and even though Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich isn’t the most intuitive or user friendly operating system, it’s absolutely one of the most powerful. Android 4.0 is coupled with the best smartphone Samsung has ever produced and easily leapfrogs any other competitor’s device.
Unfortunately in the Android world, this hardly lasts a long time, and as we have started to see in various leaks, there’s going to be some serious competition for the best Android smartphone in the world over the next few months. For now, though, this marriage of hardware and software, under Google and Samsung’s direction, is an absolute winner. Full review here.

Personally, I’ve already been taken in by the Galaxy Nexus’s charms, and have been thoroughly spoiled in the process. It’s the most impressive smartphone I’ve ever used, and after just a few days, older versions of Android already feel ... well, old. Many other phones will get a taste of Android 4.0 in early 2012, but make no mistake, the Galaxy Nexus is the device that ICS was meant to be used on. The sheer speed of the hardware and software, combined with the slickness and beauty of the new stock Android UI makes the device a joy to use. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android device ever because it’s the best all-round Android phone. Not only is the design almost flawless but the screen is sharp, the camera capable and the software a huge leap forward. Considering it will have a software lead of at least three to four months on any new device being released with ICS, for many people it is reason enough to upgrade. Ice Cream Sandwich is the biggest leap in smartphone operating systems since perhaps iOS 2 to iOS 3 (or maybe iOS 4 to iOS 5, we can’t decide) but it fundamentally alters the way Android users interact with their phones. Beyond those gimmicks that don’t work as well in the real world as they do on television commercials, Ice Cream Sandwich’s main claim to fame is that it’s a more-polished version of Android — it’s easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing than any of its predecessors. Bravo, Google — I’m looking forward to further refinements of Android, and if this leap forward is any indication, the world’s most popular smartphone operating system has even brighter days ahead.
Couple that with this gorgeous and subtly curved handset, and you have yourself a winner. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is by far the best Android phone I’ve seen yet. Full review here.

In a nutshell, the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone I've ever touched before. This is easy to say for a couple of reasons. Up until the Galaxy Nexus, my hands-down favorite phone was the Galaxy S II (specifically the Sprint and international versions) and the Galaxy Nexus is rather similar when it comes to in-hand feel and build quality. That said, the Galaxy Nexus goes above and beyond with a modern and sexy design that makes you feel like you're holding the future in your hand. Full review here.

Based on the above definitions you wouldn’t think that Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus (SGN) is actually a culmination of anything good, particularly in the way of an Android phone. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the most exciting Android device I’ve had an opportunity to review. Not only does it feature an exceptional design by Samsung and an impressive list of specs, but it’s also the first device to utilize the newest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.0.
It is, without a doubt, the best Android smartphone of the year.

For those who want to check Yakju or non-Yakju build on Galaxy Nexus:
1. Download "Android System Info" from market. 2. Launch it 3. Go to System tab 4. Under it, click to expand Buildinfo 5. See Product
download the USB driver and firmware files to Windows (may take multiple tries, keep trying). run USB driver app in Windows run firmware app in Windows put phone in download mode (power off, volume down + power on, plug USB cable in) in firmware app, click start!
and you're done! You're now yakju with latest Google ITL41F.

5MP S5K4E1G is the camera sensor that is used in the Galaxy Nexus
QUOTE
The S5K4E1G is a highly integrated QSXGA camera chip which includes CMOS image sensor (CIS) and CCP2- compliant image data interface. It is fabricated by SAMSUNG 90nm CMOS image sensor process developed for imaging application to realize high-efficiency and low-power photo sensor. The sensor consists of 2608 x 1960 effective pixels which meet with 1/4 inch optical format. The CIS has on-chip 12-bit ADC arrays to digitize the pixel output and also on-chip Correlated Double Sampling (CDS) to reduce Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) drastically. The image data interface performs data formatting, image compression, Image scaling and serial transmission using Sub-LVDS. The host controller is able to access and control this device via CCI bus. The S5K4E1G is suitable for low power camera module with 2.8V/1.8V power supply.

I get the feeling I could repeat this a hundred times and people wouldn't listen, but here goes:
The number of megapixels on your camera phone does not matter.
Please, read that again. And again.
The limiting factor in your camera phone is the physical size of the sensor and the lens. You aren't going to resolve much good detail past 5 megapixels, AND you will start contributing heavily to noise by shrinking the photosites.
The new iPhone 4S camera is great, but it is not great because it is 8 megapixels. It is great because it's a high quality sensor and a nice lens. It is great in spite of it being 8 megapixels.
I have printed poster-size with a Nikon D2h. That was a 4 megapixels camera. Those were 4 very high quality megapixels with the right glass on the camera. Having more, lower quality pixels is not the right way to approach cameras. From binary vision at Android Forums
alternatively, if you seek to get better photo with the Galaxy Nexus, you could consider getting extended lens option from Photojojo

Insufficient storage space?
QUOTE
Try cloud storage: •Google Music for all your songs needs, you can upload up to 20,000 songs for free. •Plex for all your media files, including videos, photos, audios. •Dropbox for everything else. •Box is similar to Dropbox
Why does this phone not include a Micro SD slot?
QUOTE
There are many reasons floating around, but the reason I’ve seen by at least a few Googlers is that if an app utilizes an SD card’s storage in some way (say, storing a user’s data) and then the user removes the card, that app has to be programmed to handle the card’s disappearance. It’s easier for developers to code apps that keep everything in the internal storage (e.g. the app’s folder in /data/data) than have to handle the presence/absence of external media.
Without an SD card, how can I flash ROMs, back up my data between wipes, etc?
QUOTE
The internal media storage space (for example, the ~13GB left over in the UK model) IS subject to being wiped when user data is wiped (since it is mounted as /data/media). However, custom recoveries have been made for other devices that skip wiping this directory, so once CWM or another recovery for the GN comes out with that feature, you won't need to back-up your media folder before wiping.
What happened to USB mass storage?
QUOTE
Galaxy Nexus doesn't support USB mass storage, instead it supports MTP and PTP which will work without any issue in Windows. However, Mac users will have to use this application to transfer file.

Its a SGX540, the same one in the Nexus S, but significantly higher clocked, running at 384mhz.
QUOTE
Iit's only the GPU that isn't as fast (the CPU is as fast as anything on the market right now, and faster than the iPhone). This will be the third fastest GPU on the market, behind the PowerVR SGX543 of the iPhone, and the Mali-400 of the Samsung Galaxy S2. For most tasks, of course, there will be tons of horsepower available for things like hardware acceleration of the OS, basic processing tasks, etc. These are not generally a challenge to most GPUs. The real question is, how will it handle games or apps like Google Earth or other 3D-intensive apps?
Think about this: when game developers release a game for the PC, do they optimize it so that it will only run on the brand new, top-of-the-line, $600 graphics card? Of course not. They wouldn't sell many copies, would they? Expect the same here. The PowerVR SGX540 of the Nexus is a potent GPU, one of the fastest on the market. Not being the fastest shouldn't be a concern. From Android Forums
Also, if you didn't notice already, games that are actually fun don't rely on polygon counts to sell the game, ie. cut the rope, plant vs zombie, coin drop, etc etc. If the iPhone 4 with SGX535, a lower end GPU than Nexus S, can have great game titles, I don't see how the G Nexus can't.
Food for thought, if the G Nexus can already play 95% of the games in the market (the other 5% being Tegra3 exclusives ), what significance does it make that the GPU scored lower in benchmarks?

Only had a brief listen on mine using some Yuin PK2s that I have.
I've come from an Xperia Arc, and before that I did have a SGS2 for a while.
I've not had enough time to make a definitive view but at this stage, the Nexus sounds more open than the Arc (which had a warm veil to the sound imo) and seems to be able to drive the Yuin's much better than the SGS2 - my ears will give up before I reach max volume this time around.
To my ears, at this stage, it offers a pretty well balanced sound - plenty of detail resolved without sounding overly harsh on the tracks I have tried. The mids certainly sound better than the previous 2 phones mentioned from my recollection.
Not had a play with any equaliser settings yet as I prefer listening without tweaking these in any way if possible.
Reckon it has potential - and its certainly good enough for the amount of listening I do. From WhiteHartMart @ XDA Developers

I have compared the Nexus to the GS2.
1. Don't worry it blows the GS2 out the water. Highs are high, lows are low. Tested with .flac on same settings via power amp.
2. Its the best sound quality I have ever heard from .flac on a mobile phone. I never owned a Nexus1.
3. Speaker is very low. Not as loud as cm7 on GS2 but hey the quality is OK.
4. Gone are the days of the Bluetooth audio crackle via A2DP. It has very good quality via A2DP even compared to GS2 CM7.
If you are interested I tested the phones with some Astro A40's. Not the best for an audiophile but suitable for the test I guess. From NatTheCat @ XDA Developers

Facebook won't sync with Nexus Devices because Google and Facebook had a little spat back when 2.3 was released. Whereby Facebook refused to use the standard contact sync API and instead used the one that Google had initially concocted from scratch for them. Then, when Google deprecated that API, Facebook didn’t feel like changing their code, so no more sync.

Google+ application settings on an Android phone will automatically upload new photos and videos to a Google+ album. There's no need to panic, though, as the photos and the album itself will remain private until you sign into Google+ and specify which images you want to share with select circles
To disable automatic upload from the Google+ Android app, select "Settings" within the "Menu" screen and uncheck "Instant Upload." Now you have control of which mobile photos make it to your private Google+ album.
The Instant Upload settings allows for further customization, including uploading all existing photos on your phone, uploading only when connected to a WiFi network (good for those with capped data plans), and uploading only when the phone is charging.
If you've ever had or used Picasa, there is a chance you've got an album there that Google is picking up and syncing.
Click on the "My Photos" tab, click on the offending album, click on the "actions" tab, and choose "delete album".
To delete the synced photos from Gallery
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google +
Then press the "Clear data" button.
Now when you go back to the gallery the instant upload and any photos linked in Picasa will be gone.
You should also disable the syncing before doing this if you don't want them to come back again.

Face Unlock can be fooled by a picture!
QUOTE
Google does not pretend that the Face Unlock feature is SUPPOSED to be a foolproof security measure; just a convenient, fun mechanism. Also, facial recognition software is not foolproof, and in all the “Face Unlock beaten by photo” videos I’ve seen to date, the pictures that ‘fool’ Face Unlock have been shot at practically the same time, and in the same lighting conditions, and resulted in a facsimile of the image captured during setup. Is it really all that surprising that this photo would unlock the phone? It hasn’t been shown whether face unlock will be easily fooled by, say, an older Facebook picture or another image of the user which ISN’T practically the same as when it was set up.
The primary goal of Face Unlock is to provide a measure of security if you accidentally leave your phone on, say, a bus or train. Most likely whoever picks it up won't know what you look like (and so wouldn't be able to get in with your picture), allowing you time to either find it again or remotely wipe it.

Rubin is explaining what makes a “Nexus” phone, as opposed to any old Android phone. Basically, Google gets deeply involved in the design, working with the hardware maker and the chipmakers. Rubin notes there are over a million lines of code in Android.
“So much work goes into producing the UI and the changes that you make, and then typically what happens is that the OEM’s put their skins on it and put their own touch. Does it bother you that so much work goes into it and in the end, a lot of consumers don’t interact with the UI as you intended it?”
Well, it would bother me more if we didn’t have programs like the Nexus program. The idea behind the Nexus device is to do exactly that – to give consumers an option to use the baseline work that we do if they choose…the philosophy of Android, the idea that partners can customize Android if they want to, is really important to making Android successful. By Matias Duarte, User Experience Designer of Android
QUOTE
There are Android phones (Nexus). And there are Sense phones (HTC). And there are Philblur Motorola phones. And there are TouchWiz phones. And so on and so forth.
With the Nexus line, Google has its flagships, its models of how its operating system should work. The broader world of Android is more like MS-DOS—the original "weak OS." Every version of the software is retailored and rebranded by its manufacturer. Even some software has to be rewritten to conform to different machines and their varied specs. But what you get is accelerated development of hardware and broad interoperability between machines, which benefits both users and developers.
Why does this distinction matter?
If you're an Android user, you may simply have to accept that you didn't buy an Android device running Google software; you bought a device from Samsung, Motorola or Amazon running Samsung, Motorola or Amazon software. Unless you have a Nexus, Google's more or less invisible on your device. Finally, you're never going to be able to just pull a brand-new software update out of the cloud and stick it on your machine. Not unless you're up for a little hacking. From Arstechnica
QUOTE
So when someone asks me why I prefer a Nexus over any other Android handset, why I'm making such a big deal over waiting it out for the Galaxy Nexus or why I don't just cave and buy something else with better specs, the answer is not because of the hardware itself or even the software. The answer is because the hardware and software mix together so well and Nexus phones have a history of consistency and great performance that nothing else really piques my interests. In addition, I'm an Android purist and while I understand the need for custom interfaces, I prefer my Android in the purest of forms. Having a phone that is shipped with the purest of stock Android and promised first dibs on any firmware updates from Google is enough to win me over.
There is on one specific reason why I want the Galaxy Nexus so bad. It's everything brought together in a single device, all of the gripes and disappointment in other, non-Nexus handsets that I've had over the past two years and the thought of using Android specifically how Google envisions it. Not everyone will agree, not will everyone understand. But we all have our reasons for the preferences we have, and a run-of-the-mill Android phone just doesn't cut it for me anymore. From PhoneDog
QUOTE
But that is the philosophy of Android, a philosophy that had eluded me until now. To Google, Android is an operating system. To companies like HTC, Samsung, and Motorola, Android is the building-blocks with which they will build their own unique devices.
Google makes Android phones. Apple makes iOS phones. HTC makes Sense phones. Samsung makes TouchWiz phones. Motorola makes MotoBlur phones.

In this post, I’ll be talking about the rooting process of an Android device as far as my best knowledge allows me to. Regarding ‘root’ itself, please consult the many definitions around the internet. In short, it is a special permission granted to a user to perform low level operations on a system (like backing up your Angry Birds game data, or changing the boot animation). 'Rooting' is the process of obtaining the means to grant this permission.

those who dislike the micro lag when opening app drawer, this is the mod for you. After reading that thread, main cause for this seems to be that the home screen is killed to make space for other apps in memory, so there will be times where the home screen requires redraw. What this mod does is make the home screen the top priority in the memory process, so it doesn't get killed easily or not at all.

If you are having problem in applying wet SP, which is a must if you're looking for something that covers full front of the phone, here are some tips written by droid13579
Before you begin, cut your fingernails and wash your hands. This is to prevent nail damage to the skin and minimum the risk of bringing lint, dust and dirt.
Location to skin application: There are few locations are suitable for application: Steamy Bathroom (is a PLUS since steam is capable to trap dust) Bathroom Kitchen Bedroom Study Room/Guest Room
As long you switch off any air ventilation like fan, air conditioner. Lock your door and windows, your fine to proceed. Clean your area, to minimum the risk of bringing lint and dust.
After cleaning your area, prepare your own solution (if they don't provide you) try look for a shallow dish plate or spray bottle. Put 2 or 3 drops of mild soap and mix it with water, and you now have your own solution.
For mild soap, I suggest using baby shampoo like Johnson baby shampoo or any dish wash liquid.
Once your have your own solution, prepare your own version of squegee card if they don't provide you. Any credit card would be fine but make sure they have straight edges to prevent damage your skin during squegee.
Now you have those two main stuffs, time to bring out your paper towel or microfibre cloth. Personally, I prefer paper towel because it is easily available than microfibre cloth, or anti fog cloth is good to go.
Once you have those stuffs, bring out your skin and read their instructions. Some might give tips for application process.
Time for application, first wash your hands once again and clean them with your paper towel.
Before application, clean your device with your microfibre, anti-fog or paper towel to remove smudges and dust on your screen. TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE, REMOVE YOUR BATTERY, ENGAGE THE ON SWITCH!
For Spray Bottle method: Spray your non-adhesive skin for two pumps, then wet your fingers with your spray. Peel your Skin, immediately and give like 3 ~ 4 pumps on adhesive side.
Now place on your device screen, and align it with your fingers. Your skin should move freely for this time. After you have set your alignment, leave your device like 1~2 minutes.
After 1~2 minutes, prepare your credit card or squegee card. Start push your access liquid and air bubbles from middle to the left or middle to the right while try not to move your skin, DO NOT squegee the skin to hard or it will leave marks, or causing miss align.
Keep squeegee for like 5~8 minutes to remove all bubbles and use your paper towel/microfibre cloth to trap any water/liquid to prevent get into the device. After that, clean and damp the screen with paper towel/micro fibre cloth.
Now your skin should be like clean and zero bubbles, if they do have don't peel or being paranoiac. Look for a windy place and place your device there for 12/24 hours. Those streaks, micro-bubbles will dissipated during these period.
AND NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD BE LOOK CLEAN AND BRAND NEW!
Shallow Plate "Dip" Method for Wet Screen Protector Application
When I said Shallow Plate to Dip your solution is not to immerse your skin to your solution. This might be tricky but if you do it properly it also gives a good look when it is done.
First, Prepare a shallow dish plate fill with water and add 2~3 drops of baby shampoo/ dish wash liquid mix with your finger and you have your own version of solution. Not to forget prepare your anti fog cloth/ micro fibre, paper towel and squeegee card/credit card.
**You may use warm water as an alternative.**
Now, wash your hands and clean your device to remove all those dirt, dust, lint and grease. Not to forget remove the battery, turn off the device.
Begin to dip the non adhesive side, a shallow dip is enough not immerse the skin. If it is too wet, shake vigorously to remove big water particles. Wet your fingertips by dip into your solution and peel it. Give shallow dip for non adhesive side and shake it.
**If you think shake vigorously still look wet for both sides, try wipe on one direction like butter on toast to remove excess water, liquid.**
Immediately, place your skin to your device and leave it for 1~2 minutes. Now your skin should move freely, and try align it in this time. Remember align it with your fingers gently by recognize it front facing cameras, proximal sensors and ambient sensors and front speakers.
After 1~2 minutes, start squeegee with your credit card from middle to left/right then up to down. Don't squeegee too hard or else you will damage the skin. Do this for 5~8 minutes.
**While Squeegee, try damp the excess solution and not to push the solution to cut outs**
After 5~8 minutes, wipe/damp the excess solution with paper towel/mircofibre/anti fog cloth. Your skin should look free bubbles. If you do saw a streaks, micro-bubbles. Don't be paranoiac and peel it, find a windy place at let it dry for 12/24 hours.
NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD LOOK CLEAR LIKE IT WAS NO SCREEN PROTECTOR, TIME TO FOOL YOUR FRIENDS AND SAID I HAVE GONE NAKED WITH MY SCREEN

do you know where is the vibration toggle? instead of pressing the volume down key to switch the mode, is there anyway to switch it to vibration mode? or is it the same as silent mode?

I've installed switchpro widget. It works just like stock power control but with much more option to choose. If you are into custom rom, apex rom has build in notification power widget. Both of these widget has option to toggle between sound, vibrate and mute

which vibration toggle are you looking for? keyboard? notification? key presses in general?
most of them can be found in sound settings
vibration mode and silent mode are different mode, vibration = silent + vibration, while silent is without vibration, iinm.

Did u applied wet screen protector previously? Coz several ppl encounter this issue after applying wet sp. But the button come back to function after it dried up.
But if u are not applying this sp, maybe the best thing is go back to the store for exchange or send to samsung sc for warranty claim.

Why did u bought usb dongle just to share internet with ur phone or laptop? Did u know that our phone can be set as wifi hotspot and even usb tethering.
Me myself previously using usb dongle with broadband accnt fr my laptop. After having android phone, i just give away the dongle to my sister, and cancel the broadband plan. yes bro.. before buying this dongle I was using usb tethering + u mobile voice/data sim to access internet on laptop using my gnex.
So I decided to have one prepare voice/sim for my phone and data sim for usb dongle. I thought I will share my internet connection from laptop to gnex when I m home.

Since u are an android user, we have the option to try other baseband to suits ur need. So why not try other baseband, maybe it can solve ur problem.
There's always solution for problems. So dont blame android

Hi guys, Just to share... Anyone interested in the lens, head over to plug. he got extra 1 set ready stock.
bro m not blaming android. I thought may be it does not support. I will definitely try to flash other basebands. I m strong supporter of android thats why I bought the phone.
Added on February 19, 2012, 8:46 pm same thing happened to me too. After some time it got rectified. May you try to put it on rice so that the moisture is no longer there
Have u try Virtual Router that turns your laptop/pc into Wifi Hotspot?
change the mode into AP mode and not ad hoc then your phone will be able to connect?
not sure bro how to do that. I will search and try.
Meanwhile I will try to use virtual router again as connectify is not working and virtual router also had some issues. May be now I will try to see whether I m able to resolve virtual router issues or put it with connectify.
By the way, funks, my xo is bulk 5. Now looking for SGP ultra hybrid, seller kirra is out of stock. Any other LYN seller I should look for?
so far, only saw kirra selling genuine sgp. so fast out of stock? last week just restock only. cod the neo hybrid with him. and maybe buying one neo hybrid ip4 from him. is the capsule hard or soft type? might get one capsule for nexus also. boring having one casing. hahahaa
finally I m able to get my friend's iphone to use my pc internet connection using usb modem. => I only need to find a way to allow my device to detect adhoc wifi connections.
cant we replace the files in system/bin folder? it is not allowing me to do. I m using astro file manager and my fone is rooted..do I need to sue some other apps?
Added on February 19, 2012, 10:41 pmmay be I have to do via adb shell.

Starting Android 4.0 Google Music is one of features in Stock ICS, so is consider as stock app in Galaxy Nexus or Android 4.0 Nexus S. As previous versions of android or other Androids they need to download Google Music Application to use it.

bro I m able to edit using file expert. Nice and free apps. I was actually trying to replace the wpa_supplicant with the one given in XDA. But now can not turn on wifi.
So I just need to enable my gnex to detect adhoc wifi connection. for that I found that we need to play with this file. Do you have any idea about this?

Bro,just use ES file explorer,it easy and free, Why hassle on different hard method. From my knowledge ,use connectify apps on your laptop to turn as ad-hoc wifi spot.I think you already mess with the internal setting in your Nexus,Even with XXKK6 baseband i able to detect wifi ,using Uni-FI white router.Just key in the serial number at the bottom of the router to connect WPA2 password. Or if you really want to conform your laptop is ok,get another andriod(borrow) Hp,Turn the wifi search and see how.

Bro I already try connectify and it didnt work.
My windows 7 adhoc connection is working on iphone. So it has to be adhoc visibility for android. I m now able to replace and edit files using file expert no issues.
but replacing the file as suggested on xda forum does not work. may be no working stuff for ICS.
Bro,Thrust me ,is working.I,m understand you want to turn you laptop as mobile WiFi ad hoc .Can you borrow another android smartphone example samsung galaxy S and see is it can detect your laptop?
Our phone cannot detect ad-hoc connection ah? ah? I tried to use PDANet on my iPad, my laptop see's a wifi/adhoc from my iPad, but my Gnex doesnt detect..

Did you try to use Virtual Router if Connectify cannot work ?
abit of sharing i found on utube with any one who thinking of getting otterbox defender.. because it was a cut cost approach to try having one case for both gsm and lte model.. the gsm model fit losely inside.. causing problems such as scratches.. it would've been ok if it's layer with soft inside and hard outside..but its the other way around so kinda bad..
i would say for ultimate protection or layer case.. inner soft and outer hard is much better.. such as sgp and the seidio active.. also check out ballistic case.. they have gnex coming out.. both seidio active and ballistic looks kinda good for a rugged case

You guys prefer dry or wet screen protector ?for nexus.
I dont use n never believe in using it And I have proven it myself scratching with keys and even dragging a penknife across screen and I have even demo it to my friends And my phone is always in a covered case - that is good enough protection

I think only that only applies on gorilla glasses right ? major sharp items wouldn't scratch but they say hair scratch can cause scratches .

y hard to apply?i actually found that its way more easier to apply compared to SGP as you can reposition it as many times as u want as long as the fluid still moisty. while in SGP's case, i need to tear it up, use tapes to remove the thumbprints and dusts and oils then reapply again.
bought Gnex on saturday. switch from Incredible S. great phone. love the screen. very fast. just kinda miss the smart dial n FB contact sync.
flash custom rom, u are set to go to sync ur fb contact, or if u dont want to root ur phone, install app haxsync from marketplace to sync ur fb contact.
oh shit oh shit...someone please help...i did a stupid mistake...i accidentally deleted a folder called sd card from my phone via pc while deleting some music and pictures folder...now when i go into the drive it says my sd card is empty but i can see all my files, its very weird can someone help. When i access astro file manager my files are missing but via pc i can still see them,,,please help

Share my tips for wet type screen protector application:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

There's no way GNex price gonna drop to RM1.5K no matter AP or SME set. And SGS3 will surely price atleast RM2299 if not higher when it release :-P

I noticed my GNex needs a restart every few days, otherwise it would get buggy.

Most probably it because you have a phone already and not due the price. Maybe for them why buy another phone when already have one. That's why i said, try trade your old phone and ask your father only for top up the balance. And that way you are using only one expensive phone at one time. ~~just my two cents~~

If you need only MMS then go to network setting and manually put your APN to MMS only (without internet)

I failed like 10 times when apply wet screen protector, because I was like simply paste and always go ahead by myself.
I learn from experience... try DIY before asking service. Because, no one likes to leave their phone for like 2 days... you don't like it right? and you think those guys who help you are problem free? If your device gets liquid inside spoiled the LCD. They not gonna paid you for that and same time lose warranty. Plus, who knows those people already take your device and ran away.
IF you think apply wet screen protector isn't your day, SGP and martin fields are good to go. Easy to install, liquid free and don't need to wait 2 days.

Have you experienced sp from sme? Are those sp branded ? Coz they charged like rm69. With non-friendly expression on their face.

With RM 69 i can get 2 BSE full body skin protectors. You do the math.. Martin Fields are seriously Overpriced but they are the good quality clear type SP, too bad only 1 they provide. SGP is also another good quality SP but buy from E-bay is like RM 50+ and comes with 2 screen protectors so if you mess up, you still have another spare
SME's SP, i yet to tried it. Maybe when i get my gnex after this week
I have test those two but they seems not my liking, my Nexus S is an example. First, Martin Fields and SGP have rainbow effect and easily to get micro-scratch.
Olephobic coating is easily wore off after like 10 wipes, the Ultra Optics is a good type matte flim from SGP but still the grainy effect and when I swipe the home screen, the sound effect is awful like zipping my trousers. Like the satin touch hate the sound effect.
Third, DRY SCREEN STATIC SCREEN PROTECTORS are not curve screen friendly, the "Peel" effect is sucky. The protection is look compromise like so small from actual size.
Alternatively, bodyguards, warpsol and zagg offers dry method but the installation is freaking painful and cost a BOMB.
Seriously, follow my instructions and you will happy ever after!

Please read my wet sp installation tips in first page before asking for service.

I still waiting XO skins send me skins for Nexus S, they gave me Galaxy S II screen protector. My GNex is comming soon. Will post pics after application.
I getting the SME SP due to the GALAXY NEXUS stock SP has words that almost block my view. Had to fork out some to get a temporary SP to prevent scratches
lotus glass =/= scratch resistant, even thou they are tough but an daily activity might damage it plus I don't like to lose the oleophobic coating as well.

I need to wait for next week to get my GNex at the same time buy their SME SP or maybe not...
GNex is using somekind of lotus glass. But don't expect it to be hard as diamond. If there is a screen is hard as diamond. Screen protector isn't useful anymore

yeap...even gorilla glass also will be scratched, unless its made of diamond..
some people prefer use it naked and have faith on the glass, while some prefer safe than sorry, so to apply SP or not is quite subjective...

Of course every phone can change/replace its screen. Haven't heard one that cannot, yet.
Go to settings > language and input settings > TICK google pinyin. Then only you able to scroll down ur notification bar and change input.
i was able to change between swype, android keyboard and google pinyin all the time..just that just now all of sudden the icon in top bar disappeared..
able to solve it by untick swype and google pinyin in setting and tick back..scratching my head think what i did just now
can i know how to change to mms? when i tap on the digi mms it keeps going into the settings..
Setting > wireless & network > mobile network > Access Point Name > digi > APN type (edit to MMS only). But make sure your data network is enabled in order to send/receive MMS

I dropped my charging gnexus on 2nd day of purchase along with my laptop from 2.5 feet high table.

Next time use betterbatterystats n check what apps is eating up so much battery life. It is unusual such a big drop. Even if you browse continiusky one hour max 20-30% only

That is the thing. No apss will consume that much battery and we all know the screen is the biggest juice sucker. Screen was off during the massive power drain. I just assume it just a bug in battery reporting. Quick google said it is a known issue for ICS 4.0.2.

Added Shallow Plate "Dip" Method for Wet Screen Protector Application
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

To remove nail marks, off your device and remove battery. Prepare a hair-dryer and a microfibre cloth. Point your hair-dryer on your xo skin for like 15 seconds then rub it with your microfibre in circular motion. The marks should be gone because the skin is healing.
Don't rub to hard or your skin will be ruined. The hair-dryer setting is under cool or lowest settings.

any tips for removing air bubbles? have to peel off and reapply?
You two seriously need go ask XO customer service for replacement. Because during application, you should squeegee properly to prevent bubbles and also layout is important step to make sure is bubble free.
If after squeegee for 4 minutes the bubbles are still here simply remove and reapply. IF is over 5 minutes, you have to ask for replacement.
Make sure your film is moist not dripping wet to get 0 bubbles!
OR alternatively, try wash your film under a running water, or use scotch tape (best tape which leave 0 residues) to trap those dust and lint
If it doesn't work ask for replacement.

If you need to track the summary of the calls/sms/data plans.
I can recommend you droidstats. It can keep track your limits.
Do you guys think that a kernel will run better and smoother the longer you use it?
I found that if a kernel that is newly flashed, it actually perform below it's full potential. After using it for weeks, the kernel actually is better in terms speed and smoothness. At least this is what the benchmark score is telling me...

Bro. Take note. Me too experienced that. But it's not the casing. You just need to press it harder. There's a soft click noise. Haha. It's fit fit wan. Chillax. Cheers for neo hybrid user.

Hows AOKP battery life doing? Anyone care to enlighten me a little?
And do I have to flash kernels?
Battery life is subjective, test the ROM on your own
Kernel is optional, if you feel the kernel from the ROM is not good enough, you can choose depending on what you want
From what I know morfic had the highest bench Mark and James Bond is easy on battery, have not test it myself though as I'm on 2 weeks with AOKP and only 2 days with apex kernel now.

Took ur advise n pushed harder, n u re right, it manage to go in, n it super tight. Thanks bro ! Thought its having same problem with my other case, no matter how hard i push, it will never go in.
My gnex still naked...so far screen is clean and clear from scratches (touch wood)... gonna use the rearth case sp... if the sp bharia one then i think i gonna buy xo skin.... scare duno apply only ><
Keep it naked bro.. gnex screen is oleophobic some more.. Just as long u dont keep ur gnex together with ur car key/coins in ur pocket, u shud be fine.. If ur that worry, im sure u'd be very careful on how u handle ur phone.. that paranoia alone will reduce the possibilty ur screen to get scratches..
My previous xperia x10 dont use SP..after a year, i can barely see any scratches.. so gnex with a better screen shud handle things even better...

Yea... I wont put my car keys with my phone...keys on the left pocket and phone on the right. XD so far after seeing uncle benny reply i was convinced that the naked screen alone is quite tough. Although i will still apply the free sp from the rearth pack when it reaches

man i suggest you to google! in english, its the central component of an operating system its basically the medium to allow the hardware and the software to talk to each other

Do you guys think that a kernel will run better and smoother the longer you use it?
I found that if a kernel that is newly flashed, it actually perform below it's full potential. After using it for weeks, the kernel actually is better in terms speed and smoothness. At least this is what the benchmark score is telling me...
i think franco kernel is still the best in battery life. Tested most kernels on xdadeveloper, still franco has the best battery life. for ROM...APEX and AOKP are both good. I am now using AOKP M3 and waiting APEX to be updated.

hahaha....so fast you tested all?? i will let it run for like 2 weeks to see how its performance for my current Apex i am a bit skeptical about franco because his is a nightly build. so i will leave it for the time being until its not a nightly
As long as one is happy on battery life with your present rom/kernel , than stick to it. Do not be influenced by others. As each person use the phone differently, the other user experience is different from yours. Just like asking which is best rom or best kernel is same like asking which is the best smartphone, best car within your budget range

yeah.. that happens to IP4 normally over long or heavy usage... but if u put a SP on top of it, it still doesnt fit the purposed of having oleophobic in the first place.. the olephobic layer was made to be used and enjoyed by the owner, not to be protected under a SP... at least thats how i see things la...
for now, i'm quite happy with just using a pouch, BB style... and a ringke slim which i will be getting soon from Sordanny..the only time my screen is exposed is when i take it out other than that, it is kept safe inside the pouch...

When the Oleophobic layer is worn off, the screen look disgusting. Very Disgusting is like patches on the screen...
1)Download "Desktop visualizer" on the market, its free.
2)Install it then find under widget, u will see a lot desktop visualizer widget there with different size etc 1x1, 2x1, 3x1...
3)Add the widget to your desktop and click on it... A desktop visualizer apps will pop up and u just need to choose your desire pictures and link it with your apps.
Note: Just copy and paste the pictures in your phone, u will be able to view them in the gallery... Have fun You must match the size of the pictures with your widget size.

Your sweat + oil might peel the oleophobic layer it never last long, maximum is like 4~6 months unless you NEVER touch your display or wear gloves. XO skins only fill 95% of wore screen. I never believe that, because inner layer is damage and even you place another layer on top of it. You will see rainbow lines, which no one likes it.
Better be safe rather then feel sorry and regretful, don't damage your display.

agree with droid13579, but each to their own opinion xD IMHO, SP easier and cheaper to replace than the glass just treat it like the windshield of cars, car windows also got tint treatment
I think my olephobic coating sp (sgp ultra oleophobic) already worn off. After around 1.5 weeks usage of swiping and tapping the screen without leaving any oily fingerprint, finally today my screen have a lot of smudge and fingerprint.
Will replace the oleo sp with new one since sgp give 2 sp in a single package. After that, thinking to get ultra optics sgp sp.
It's not gonna help you much, temporary coating is useless for daily use. Don't forget we touch-screen users always abuse the screen. I prefer get a SP than a marker pen...
It doesn't prevent you from daily abuse like swipe micro hairline scratches...

SGP oleophobic is quite terrible product, don't get it next time. But ultra optics haven't release for GNex, or get a wet SP...
Try boxwave, martinfields (clear SP) if you want something new. They were good but not friendly with curve screen...

Ic, thanks for the info bro. For a meantime, just get a cheap matte sp first until ultra optics release for gnex. Im not a fan of wet sp btw.
my advice is it is better to have your screen protected by sp unless you're very careful type of guy or using a flip case because my screen already got scratches, and believe it or not it is because i carelessly put my laundry basket (made from plastic only!) on my phone while charging, i non stop cursing myself after the incident, everyday wish i could turn back time when looking at the ugly line with rainbow pixel but it's too late, yes maybe a key or penknife may not cause scratch other polished glass also like that, but it can get scratched by coarse tiny particle, just try to rub it with a grain of sand to believe it

4 to 6 months? Wow.. a device cost 2k have a screen lifetime that short? I didnt know that..
Anyway, i rarely swipe my finger on the screen when its wet or oily.. i always keep it clean..shouldnt that extend the life of my oleo layer by a few months at least? Cos sweat n oil is the main culprit, rite?

benny will never agree with you because he has shown all kind of demos to his friends. But I m sure if he tries dust/tiny glass particles which may come through daily usage it will definitely scratch the screen. But on his side the way he handles could be different ....but I always insist to take precaution.

New user reporting in Hopefully this would last with me longer than the other phone I've used. Within 3 months, I've bought, tried & explored, sell it back, and buy other phone My lost? Don't dare to calculate
last time my nephew had drawn pattern so many times that it messed up everything. I had to reflash again because ICS had a bug it does not recover if your internet is not ON. I think there must be a way to stop such thing again by allowing the pattern try numerous number of times. Any one has idea? I tried checking.
lazy to flash to custom rom. with official rom, it can last me around 25 hours with WIFI and 3G
i agree... last time i was a flashaholic too.. always trying new rom... 1-3 rom a week at least... now on ICS, i still dont see the need to root or flash custom rom... cos stock rom is smooth enuf for me.. no complain yet..
how long a battery can last is very subjective too... "normal usage" may vary from 1 person to another....
new owner who cant stop playing with a new toy tend to get a lot less batt life.. but it will improve once they got bored cos they use the phone less...
for me, as as long as the battery can last before i reach home at the end of the day, thats good enuf...

i have a tip... before u go to sleep, fully charge ur phone... switch off wifi or 3g, then go to sleep... next morning, u'll get at least 8 hours of battery life.. by then , u'd probaly have around 90-92% left... then thru out the day, go to work or class (which ever)... dont play too much games... if u need to browse internet, use a laptop... mobile browsing is only when ur on the go/road.. use 2G more.. a bit slow, but u can still do FB/Tweet/Foursquare... brightness at lowest possible..
when u reach home, i bet u can reach 20hours easily...

Mod, tolong add my name to user list boleh kah? Have been lurker in the Gnex threads for quite long dy though...
Actually I had a little frustrating experience with my Nexus, which I hope I won't have to go through ever again.
I had actually bought the phone on 14 Jan. Ori SME set. Then I discovered the earpiece above the screen had a crackling noise during calls the next day. Confirmed hardware problem (not signal or software problem). Got worse on 16 Jan morning. Returned the damn thing to the shop on 16 Jan afternoon. The shop boss said try to get replacement unit for me. I said, "OK! Good!". But he say that time no stock. See how. Damn. No new Nexus for CNY.
No stock, no stock, no stock until I get a phone call on 31 Jan (or 1 Feb, can't really remember). Guy said my phone was repaired under warranty instead of being replaced. SME refused to replace. Ok loh. No prob. So long as dun have that bloody crackling sound again. Went to pick up the phone that same day.
Guess what, the next day discovered crackling sound still there!!! Knn (pardon my French)!!! Called the phone shop and complain. What the hell... got fixed or not wan! Went back to the shop and complain and show 10 sen face. The shop people call someone at service centre and complain also. I told the shop people to tell the service centre people that customer f*** kaw them. Returned my phone. Then wait wait wait.
Finally I called the shop again on 9 Feb. They said still no news. But the shop boss said that they will replace one unit for me from their own stock, ori SME unit also. Wow. I was thinking should have done that earlier lah! LOL! So quickly fly there and got my replacement unit.
But by now, damn paranoid dy. So was testing my phone since 9 Feb just in case gotta return once again!!! But luckily, so far so good. That's why now only "reporting in". Haha!
Sorry for my long winded story. But it is not totally tcss or spam. Would like to share the earpiece problem that I had which started all my shit. I googled and googled about it. Problem doesn't seem to be that common but it has happened to other users elsewhere. Cheers.

Go naked always the best except if you had to use a hard point pen like GNote. My GNex is totally naked..no SP no casing..!! FTW... But my GNote got tons of casing coz it's white in colour and had to use SP because of the SPen :-(

Well.. if u play games often, any smartphone also cannot tahan more than 10 hours.. typical charge cycle is before u go to sleep evry nite.. Which is why i dont really bother testing this n that kernel.. Cos at the end of the day, i'd still charge my phone before i sleep daily..no diff also..

By default Google navigation does not work in malaysia. You need to use brut map mods to use that (which im not sure is the brutmap working with ics). Other than that u can use 3rd party navigation system such sygic, wave , etc...

Battery life last me from 6am to 7pm which for me is acceptable. If outstation I will carry Usb car charger... :-)
Im rooting and flashing not to get good batt life, but to get better performance, additional features ui and function (such remove the search bar, add additional navi button, auto hide navi bar, change navi color, change theme, toggle at notification, full nand backup, hotplug dual core to single core, etc...), and the most important thing for flashing is to have fun ....

Hi.
How about the matte type? I m getting one as it really tahan lasok and anti finger ...
Seriously, matte types are quite spoil your beautiful 720P display. You not gonna downgrade into 480p or 360p display quality...
Wipe the screen with shirt is WAY better than having a grain display...
Matte is super easy to get micro scratch than clear because the hardness also when you view under the sun or good lightning condition. Matte sucks alot...
Matte is expensive than Clear but the price you paid isn't worth you get. You still get smudges after all..
Even SGP ultra optics which consist of micro array lens to give more light into so won't get dark display(Which currently use on my Nexus S) still look DIRTY even it's anti matte, i still need to wipe the screen... still look wash out under then sun...
NO more SGP >.> excluding it's Crystal Clear which is the best product for SGP line...

guys many people wants to have a look at gnex..but sometimes we have confidential data on sms/calls/emails that we can not hand over to them for even 2 mins.... do you guys use any apps to protect the phone? I know it will be tough to enter the password everytime for apps but right now I have to put something to hide personal stuff.
lol, not sure about game data. can check those options there. how u gone so far? omg. wads ur secret? strength?
Hahaha... just up strength and speed.. repel and double damage leave at low level.... arrow at level 1 is enough. Magic pump ice only... and also pump max mana.. the rest is up to your aiming skills

By default Google navigation does not work in malaysia. You need to use brut map mods to use that (which im not sure is the brutmap working with ics). Other than that u can use 3rd party navigation system such sygic, wave , etc... Bro, which rom are you using right now? I'm on apex but interested in auto hide navi bar function you mentioned. Apex don't seem to have it. How does the auto hide function anyway

i have a tip... before u go to sleep, fully charge ur phone... switch off wifi or 3g, then go to sleep... next morning, u'll get at least 8 hours of battery life.. by then , u'd probaly have around 90-92% left... then thru out the day, go to work or class (which ever)... dont play too much games... if u need to browse internet, use a laptop... mobile browsing is only when ur on the go/road.. use 2G more.. a bit slow, but u can still do FB/Tweet/Foursquare... brightness at lowest possible..
when u reach home, i bet u can reach 20hours easily...
My battery left 98% or 97% after 8 hours sleep... Yours seems to drain some more battery
no T_T wah tied with U 2years, but its line only good in certain area >< nowadays keep convince my parents
and i no idea how to see its plan confusing @@ example for u28, at least pay RM2421 ??? the EPP is for phone price right ??
For U28, registration payment is RM1749 only, which is also the phone's price as there's no upfront payment. At the same time, this would be your EPP payment. In short, you are paying your monthly fee of RM28/month for up to 24 months while your phone only cost you RM1749 (RM350 savings).

the pro version has a very good option. Set timer for the lock. So can lock during office time.
im using pro version and only enable it when hp not in my pocket..especially when i will leave it on office table during work.. did set timer to lock during certain office time as well..a bit annoying but better safe than sorry...
In case some of you been wondering, mine is yakjuxw set. Prompted for update. Will I be able to flash it to "yakju" ROM after update or I should just ignore the update and flash to yakju straightaway?
Love the response compared to what my SGS on CM9 (this is the best so far for SGS) can offer.
My battery left 98% or 97% after 8 hours sleep... Yours seems to drain some more battery
probably cos i set Pulse and Current to sync in the background... havent really tested in airplane mode cos i dont really care how fast the battery drains actually.. 1% per hour is normal for me on stock kernel.. no modified kernel, no undervolt, no deepsleep bla bla bla.. at the end of each day, as long as my phone can survive under "my" normal usage, thats good enuf... plus, i still gonna end up charging it before i go sleep at nite, no matter how many % is left..
i will worry only when battery drain more than 10% in an hour during idle
I repeat my question posted twice again before: anyone play Street Fighter IV HD for android? I managed to install and launch the game but get FC after a while... please share if you anyone found solution, thx

Try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...&postcount=2046 I installed on my stock Nexus and is working perfectly. No root needed. Just install like any user app. But there will be 2 sets of Maps and Navigation icons appearing in your apps drawer (one default and one for the one you just installed). Make sure you open the correct one! This is version 6.2.0 modded by "miloytyn".
I tried a 6.2.0 by "ownhere" and the latest 6.3.0 also by "ownhere". Did not work. Keeps force closing when you try to navigate to somewhere.

Noticed the same scenario too. Might just have to monitor the battery stats for few days before flash my GNex again.
