Guys, just found out that he Wifi Direct feature on GNex is NOT working. Anyone know how to get it to work? There is no place to set anything, other than enable/disable.

Hi everyone,
I had tested ad hoc connection btw GNex direct to my my laptop. no problem, as long as you're in Windows 7, which is build in with virtual router or host the connection via laptop wifi card. My GNex can detect my laptop and manage to connect successfully, IP address are correct. right now still in office which is behind proxy, I cant test the Internet connection, will try when back to home (I believe it should work too). I also tested my WiFi File Explorer, working perfectly. another way plus for me to transfer file via WiFi without router. that's great.

@TS
seem like this is common repeated ask questions, I suggest to pinned on 1st page to benefits others. I'm ok if you think it's not necessary.

1. WiFi-direct ? from V5, Post #1844

2. Wireless ad-hoc network? that's 2 ways, refer link here.
*
That's Wifi Direct for DLNA usage. I want file transfer like using BT to transfer file, instead it uses the Wifi interface. Much much much more faster.

although BT file transfer option available, but if you have WiFi File Explorer PRO app installed, is much more advanced and a lot of faster via WiFi interface to PC/Notebook. but BT still is good option for file transfer on phone to phone.
*
Bro, I meant the peer-to-peer wifi file transfer, phone to phone.

Seems like Wifi direct on ICS is crippled.

never heard it can work in this way. in WiFi design, must have 1 to host for other client to join. let's search if there is android app can do so.

is anyone here test using USB OTG cable to link 2 phone? will this work to transfer file via cable directly?
*
Bro, you can try this out with S2 to S2. smile.gif

They just peer like BT, don't even need to worry about wifi key. Will auto connect.

I also have this question why GNex is missing configure option to host. do you have S2? maybe you can try activate S2 as host then GNex connect it?
*
That's the thing with GNex. No option to configure, and no ways to connect either, as the Share ... Wifi Direct entry is missing from the Sharing menu.

All you can do is Enable it, then connect from S2.

Unfortunately, S2 can't establish a connection to GNex even when Wifi Direct is enabled. doh.gif

Hi everyone,
if you want to try wifi-direct with other capable phone, turn on the wifi-direct and try this app. feedback your finding here. WiFiDirectDemo.apk
*
Doesn't work that well and Wifi Direct keeps going off by itself.

At least my SGS can connect to GNex. My GTab terus hang. lol

I think they should stole the implementation in S2, copy bulat bulat. lol.

Oh ya, gallery still doesn't have the Share ... Wifi Direct option (I thought I saw this in 4.0.1).

Just applied my Ultimate Clear Plus+ screen protector. Initial impression not that good. SP size is obviously way too small with big gaps exposing the screen on the sides. The surface is quite sticky (not smooth like my RM3 SP on SGS) and attracts a lot of prints! Will see how well it fare against scratches after seasoning it, and see if it would became more smooth. There are plenty of tiny bubble dots on it as well if you look at it at an angle. Damn, I can't even see those tiny bubble dots on my cheap sp. I think it's prone to orange peel/wavy effects as well.

Will see if under the sun will get oil stain/rainbow marks or not.

As for the case, it felt cheap (don't flame me). There were some stain leftover from the protective adhesive tape used. Can't rub them off, use celophane tapes could fix it, but not 100% clear. Gotta let it drop off after daily use.

Probably the only GNex case that doesn't expose the pogo pins? Built quality has some rough edges. For the kind of money they are charging, I would expect more...
Attached Image

There's an sp that came with the case. If you are thinking of getting the Plus one, don't bother. I think the 1 that came with could do the job and it's free! The cut size looked EXACTLY the same, the thickness felt the same too and I don't think I could distinguish them if each of them are applied to 2 different GNex and put side by side. Unless someone wanna show his/her alongside mine.

Happy casing. smile.gif

What color did you buy? Metallic?

and uhm, even if the pogo pins are exposed, you still can't use them anyway... because they require contact to connect, so any amount of thickness added will make it impossible to be used... the only way is without casing. I also don't understand why there are cases designed with the pins exposed sweat.gif
*
Yup, metallic. Not going for the Season 2 colours... they are... are to digest, for me. tongue.gif

My sentiment exactly. rclxms.gif

Added on March 3, 2012, 12:03 pmMy phone restarted by itself twice so far.

1st time was probably due to bad signal (usual Android problem, since Eclair or even earlier)

2nd time was when I tried to access to Check-In in Brut Maps.

Despite all the UI changes on ICS, the Android core is still pretty much the same as GB or earlier version. The heat still there if there's lacked of signal, the phone reboots itself it a certain apps failed to access to the internet via the cellular data. doh.gif

I just realised something, CRT OFF animation is missing from my phone. I think after I flashed to ICL53F from IML74K. Anyone noticed the change or did my phone just screwed up?

Ya, changed both (dunno their names) to .5x.

EDIT: Yeah, seems like it's the Windows Animation Scale setting. doh.gif

Just noticed that there is an update for the YouTube app, I wonder why it didnt appear in My Apps, need to search manually in market and hit UPDATE.

I noticed a new HD button.. whats the diff between that and HQ?
*
Update for Youtube app is for Android 2.1, 2.2. It's to allow the Youtube app to playback HD content. The version that came with our phone is already HD compliant (wah sey, sounds so nice tongue.gif).

Stupid Unifi. Connection to WhatsApp server sucks, now browsing Youtube from phone gets connection error!

DNS: caused by the DNS setting. Gonna set that in the Unifi router.
