hi all,

wud like ur comment on my connection

Downstream Upstream
Noise Margin 33 28
Output power(dBm) 24 11
Attenuation(dB) 126 107

The Margin is considered good based on the 1st post guidelines but the attenuation seems to be incredibly high. anybody can give insight?

tq in advance

Lately, I've been having disconnections and I've lost my phone line signal... There's no tone at all... I just checked my SNR margin and I was surprised to see a drop in performance...

Up Stream
512Kbps

Down Stream
1024Kbps

Operation Data
Noise Margin
8 dB (Up)
15 dB (Down)

Attenuation
32 dB

It used to much better... Could someone advice me on this???

My SNR and Attenuation doesnt looks so good. What can i do to make it better? I call up TMnut, they have send technician to help me check. He just said my SNR not good, the line not good, find contractor or wireman to fix it. I though they should be responsible for it?

Setting up Modems for Streamyx Tips:

1 DSL Technologies

1.1 ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
ITU G.992.1 - G.DMT - 8.0Mbit/s, 1.0Mbit/s
ITU G.992.2 - G.Lite - 1.5Mbit/s, 0.5Mbit/s
ITU G.992.3/4 - ADSL2 - 12Mbit/s, 1.0Mbit/s
ITU G.992.5 - ADSL2+ - 24Mbit/s, 1.0Mbit/s

1.2 SDSL
Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line

1.3 SHDSL
Symmetric high-speed digital subscriber line
ITU G.991

1.4 VDSL
Very high bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line

ITU G.993.1 - VDSL
ITU-T G.993.2 - VDSL2

2 Signal Level Guide

2.1 ADSL

Downstream SNR = 15 dB.

Higher is better, minimum = 6 dB.

Downstream Power = < 15 dBm.

Lower is better.

Upstream SNR = 10 dB.

Higher is better.

Upstream Power = < 15 dBm.

Lower is better.

Downstream Attenuation = < 30 dB

Lower is better, maximum = 60 dB.

Upstream Attenuation = < 30 dB

Lower is better, maximum = 60 dB.

2.2 ADSL2+

Downstream SNR = 06 dB.

Higher is not better, within range is better = 05 - 07 dB.

Downstream Power = < xx dBm.

Lower is better.

Upstream SNR = 06 dB.

Higher is not better, within range is better = 05 - 07 dB.

Upstream Power = < xx dBm.

Lower is better.

Downstream Attenuation = < 22 dB

Lower is better, maximum = 22 dB (for 10mbps), 12 dB (for ~25mbps).

Upstream Attenuation = < 22 dB

Lower is better, maximum = 22 dB (for 10mbps), 12 dB (for ~25mbps).

3 VPI/VCI ( IMPORTANT ) - Failing to adhere modem won't dial

For Streamyx, VPI = 0 , VCI = 35

Belkin Modems = VPI = 0 , VCI = 35 ( defaults at VPI = 0 , VCI = 38 )

Thomson Modems VPI/VCI = 0.35 ( default at 8.35 )

Please checking your ADSL Modulation and Annex Mode .. whether you use ADSL or ADSL2+

now consider stable for me, but sooner SNR Margin will drop.

SNR Margin will drop to 4-10 db...mainly I only see SNR Margin downstream keep dropping only....when it dropped to 4 then I suffer heavy lag and it will DC soon. Everytime I call 100 and restart the modem, then it back to normal or stay at 10db...Should I give a call to Streamyx for checking? I suspect is the exchange problem...

This is the later after disconnected..

Modulation: ADSL
SNR Margin: Lower is not better!

how far you are .. from DSLAM to your home? 4.6km?

~ 63.5 dB Attenuation?
The reason some routers/modems will report 63.5 dB as the maximum attenuation isn't actually a bug. In fact its from the G.992.1 standard which quotes "The attenuation ranges from 0 to 63.5 dB with 0.5 dB steps."
As such many firmware versions have taken this literally and only go up to 63.5dB when it is possible to have a higher attenuation figure than this. If your router is displaying 63.5dB, then there's a strong chance that your attenuation may in reality be higher.

call back tmnet .. tell them their technician told u that .. they should responsible for it (outside wiring and cable) ... make sure there is no problem with your modem, splitter (for those who has subscribed without a modem) and inside wiring!

ur SNR too low, it start to get delay in surfing or playing game at 8db and below....below 6 or 4db will block u from online....and eventually dc...I got the same problem but u can reconnect by calling 100 using the phone line to get the SNR back to certain db but it wont last long till the next dc....SNR will slowly drop back to 8, 6 and 4 then dc

call TM to fix them and confirm it is no problem after they fix because I called them and they fix on 2nd day then after 2-3days, the problem back again. Now I see if this continue then I call TM to fix them again.
