I have been in HK 6-7 times. with 1week you can go many places without rushing e.g. can even spend 1-2 days @Macau.

It looks like 7 days but effectively < 6 full day because 1st day after check in about 2-3pm & the last day you gotta leave for airport on the morning/ noon.

Oct-Feb is best for HK because cooling & less rain  smile.gif

oic.. hmm.gif planning a trip there soon..but still pondering on the number of days as budget is really limited... cry.gif cry.gif

so oct to feb is the best time?..will try to fit one week in these period

in terms of weather, oct to feb is the best time but among this period my fav in to go before X'mas & back on or after NY due to the festival feel & decoration. BUT will be very crowded everywhere you go, even go eat also hard to find table sit  blush.gif

If limited budget maybe can't afford Disney/ Ocean park ticket. If you don't go these places it will be pretty affordable to just eat & take MTR. I walked a lot too since not rushing, I didn't pay for any transport inside Macau because there is free buses @ferry to hotel, then I just walk the whole Macau with wife. Anyhow have to pay for ferry from HK to Macau both way la  laugh.gif

Economy class ferry ticket is hkd140 per way. Haven't include the time and Expenses to take travel to ferry terminal. Each journey 45mins to 1hr.

If u get hkd280 which is roughly rm140 cheaper then why not? But do consider the time spent.

Added on October 1, 2012, 2:31 ambut then again, i've never been to macau, so was thinking to include it in my itinerary if going to HK..could this be a one stone kill 2 birds scenario?

cos i'm spending the first day and the final day (half day) in macau as my flight is from macau instead of HK?..

wat's ur thoughts on this arrangement?

Hmm sort of. I reach by Macau go back by Hk.

When I got my luggage and went to the ferry terminal I was able to catch the 12pm ferry but due to heavy traffic at the imigration I have to get 12:30 to be safe. So wasted 30mins there.

Really depends whether u rushing or not. However so much hassle, imagine having to drag your luggage around, reach Hk terminal then drag it to hotel.

Worth the rm140? U ownself decide

Had you booked your flight? If still considering, I guess is better to go in 1 place, get out another place. Instead of waste 2x ferry hours.
By the way, if not mistaken.. macau and HK flight difference not much if compare to the time wasted.

This March, I will be going in through HK and getting out from Macau. 2N in HK and stay 1N in Macau. So now gotta making full use each minute of my travel.

if dont have tight budget and planning 2 do a budget trip sure go Macau as well.. it will just take 1 and 1/2 day at most.

my actual plan was to go macau as well thats why reach macau and go back from HK but due to unforeseen stuff, only have 4 days so we dropped macau.

You may try click one way ticket to Macau then another one way ticket back from HK, or vice versa. Then you save 1 trip of ferry  wink.gif

yeap. thanx for this tips..most probably will be done in this way as the travelling time of 1 hr on the ferry may seem wasted. smile.gif

Due to reason wanted dropby Macau, I booked my AA flight during last promo. There will be more flight options if don't intend to go Macau. biggrin.gif
My earlier plan was also to go Macau, then bk from HK.. as knowing the luggage will be much heavier after HK due to shoppings. But due to reason we wanted to buy Macau delicacies.. so end up we gotta fly home from Macau to keep the food fresh.

Yeah.. I was also in dilemma after booked my flight.. mine is 4d/3n.. (1nite in Macau)... even worst. sad.gif
Actually a bit regret for not planning a longer duration.
Now I have my itinerary packed with daily routine start from 7am to 12am .. free n easy become rushing like group tour. tongue.gif

Will going to HK on May next yr by AA from KL-HK and back from Shenzhen-KL. Wondering the plane for domestic and to HK is it the same? Why lot of people here mention going to Macau for the HK trip, is it attraction place to visit at Macau cause my itinerary not including Macau. We prefer Shenzhen more than Macau. Going there for 7D6N. You guys think how many days enough to stay at Shenzhen cause as I know Shenzhen not many places to visit other than shopping. Can anyone recommend budgeted hotel since we going to stay there so many days and 9 people of us? We plan to stay near Mongkok as understand there is very convenient to get food and near to the tourist place.

The reason is Macau and HK is just 45mins ferry ride. To cover Macau, it will only need 1 day to 2 days at most. So its also good to able to cover two places in a trip.

For me there is always no reason to revisit Macau unless for gambling purpose, but really pointless.

What nice about Macau? historical sites and food.

For my trip to HK last year, my flight was KL - ShenZhen & return...it's really a pain in the a$$ as the MTR trip from Shenzhen airport to border MTR is 45min....then from boarder MTR to Mongkok MTR is another 45 min sweat.gif which makes it a triring trip with all the luggage rclxub.gif

My advise is, try not to bundle more than 2x per trip. Each one goes hand in hand.
1) Macau <-> Zhuhai
2) Macau <-> HK
3) HK <-> Shenzhen

4) GZ <-> Zhuhai
5) GZ <-> SZ

You sure SZ airport to LoWu/LokMaChau is only 45 minutes by train ?
I recall even from middle (Window of the World) to HK border also need 30-40 minutes already.

Then, you not yet count how long you stuck at HK immigration, I guess maybe you lucky, the crowd is not big.

Anyway, it can be penny wise, pound foolish. Yes, you may save few hundred RM on the flight ticket to SZ, rather than HK. Is it worth it for the time spent, energy, etc. ? Some may say yes, some no. icon_rolleyes.gif

I would choose sz over zhuhai. Nothing much in zhuhai except seafood and even that it is so so. SZ got windows of world and splendid china, probably 1 full day enough.
