Pogba situation 'precarious'

Paul Pogba's agent has admitted that his situation at Manchester United is 'precarious' as reports suggest he is set to agree a move to Italy.

The 18-year-old French midfielder is out-of-contract this summer, and United - who lured him from Le Havre in 2009 - are desperate to tie him down to a new deal.

Talks are on-going but sources in England and Italy both claim that Juventus and AC Milan are offering him bigger money than United.

"It is a precarious situation," his agent Mino Raiola is quoted as saying by The Independent.

"It is difficult at the moment. Manchester United want him. It is up to the boy to make some decisions.

"We know there are some clubs interested in him.

"We must finish first with Manchester and after that we will see other options, if they are there.

"The club give the indication that they want to keep him and we are talking contract terms. There is willingness from both parties at the moment."

Raiola confirmed that Pogba was not happy to be left out of the United squad to face Ajax in the Europa League last week.

"It is never nice for the player not to be in the squad. It is the same for [Mario] Balotelli [whom Raiola also represents.]

"We must keep our minds cool and heads cool. Some things are good. Some things are not good [in this situation]."

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a great start to his Spurs career, having netted three times in as many games, and will face his ex-manager when Manchester United visit White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The Frenchman will never forget the time he first felt the notorious ‘hairdryer’ though, despite having netted twice before half-time in what was only his second game for United.

“When I headed towards the changing room, I was feeling proud,” Saha told The Sun.

“As soon as I sat down I was woken up in a violent way – Sir Alex Ferguson rendered me deaf.

Darren Fletcher hopes to be back playing football next season as the Manchester United midfielder tries to find a way to manage a chronic bowel condition.

United confirmed in December that the Scotland captain would be taking an indefinite break from football before Sir Alex Ferguson subsequently ruled Fletcher out of his plans for the rest of the season.

Fletcher is exploring a variety of different options which will enable him to resume his career at the highest level, but confirmed he will not return before next term.

"It's a week-by-week situation so I've not got any timescale on recovery, but the target for me is next season now," Fletcher told the Manchester Evening News.

Trying everything

"If I can come back then, that would be great for me.

"It's something that will never leave me but somehow you have to find a way to manage it so that I can still play my football.

"I'm trying everything under the sun at the moment: diet, hypnotherapy."

Fletcher first started to experience problems last March and his absence for all but two games of the final three months of last season was put down to a virus.

However, after appearing in 10 United games this term, Fletcher felt he needed to take an extended break and revealed the true nature of his condition.

Tom Cleverley is on target for a quickfire return against Atletic Bilbao next week after a scan on his injured ankle revealed there to be no serious problem.

The 22-year-old suffered the knock to his right foot against Ajax last Thursday in the Reds’ Europa League defeat.

Despite the 2-1 loss, United progressed on aggregate and another European route back to the first team now lies ahead for Cleverley.

The injury forced the Academy product out of the champions’ Premier League visit to Norwich City on Sunday and also saw him withdraw from the England squad.

The midfielder was due to be in temporary England coach Stuart Pearce’s squad to face Holland at Wembley in tomorrow’s friendly.

Cleverley’s debut United campaign and England hopes have been dogged by injury problems. However, the latest setback will only put his return on hold for a couple of matches.

The young midfielder sustained the injury making a tackle against Ajax in the shock Old Trafford defeat and was eventually substituted by Sir Alex Ferguson in the 60th minute. It was only his second comeback match since suffering a second ankle ligament problem last October.

The Reds sent Cleverley for a scan but worst fears were alleviated when the results returned showed nothing more than bruising.

Cleverley is understood to have progressed rapidly and is now working in the gym. He is not expected back in full training with the United seniors until later in the week and is unlikely to be considered for the Reds’ league trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday.

But a return to face Atletic Bilbao at Old Trafford in the first leg of the last-16 Europa League tie is on the cards.
