I have clarified this point, its 12 months from the date you get your EP, WP, etc. and NOT when you start to drive and NOT the cummulative period that you drive in SG. I do not think anyone will expect any less from our SG cousins!
*
I think 12months is pretty reasonable for you to convert if you wanna drive Sg car. Take note that it does not applies if your work involve driving a vehicle, for example a delivery van driver, in which you need a Sg driving license immediately.

I live and work in the sticks (where I can look across to our tanah air), i.e., not in downtown swanky areas, and my rent for an apt is 3.5K! not HDB thou'. I did hunt for a HDB flat but none were suitable and they were not cheap either, most going for around 2.5K and above and it's sparsely and or poorly furnished. Rent has gone up lots over the last 15-18 months. Perhaps there are pockets of areas in Sg that can still get reasonable rent. Just sharing my experience and not to put fear in you.
*
not many of us are staying in downtown area as well. A lot of ppl in Jurong/Boon Lay area as well and CCK/Yew Tee. They will meet up once a while for food/drinks.

*
is there even any flat rental in Singapore that is below $2k for a 4 or 5 room ?

hmm.gif Am feeling, need Signapore license lar. Singapore polis not check ID by looking at the ID like Malaysia traffic polis, they have a potable computer and can check all the details like when you start get the EP etc etc.....am not sure, but just my opinion.....even i heard, some time when you drive, the polis car follow behind you, they can key in the car plate number and check whether the car road tax expired or not, a thieves car or not, or etc etc....if clean, they will go away....hear say from singapore friends....
*
yeah. the police are pretty link up to everything. Very efficient too. you can't go really in a small county like Sg if you committed a crime

emm.. If his EP is for 12 months (Jan-Dec 2011).. then Jan-Feb 2012 he is in KL..  continue with new EP again (March 2012-Feb 2013).. will he need to have SG driving licence for March 2012-Feb 2013?

No question ask if he is holding 2 years of EP..
*
Should be based on the 1st time he get his work permit. You can ask you friend to test the system though and see what happens. Then again I find it a bit odd coz not many will have the opportunity to drive a Sg car when they 1st come here to work.

You don't need Sg license to drive Msia car in Singapore. There's a separate requirement for driving Msia car, example must not have Sg residential address, bla bla bla

Hi guys, I just got the job offer in Singapore, will start work on first of June. But i am required to stay in Singapore, my sister works in Clark Quey and I will be working in Tai Seng, any suggestion which place is suitable for staying? What i mean is it has better safety, less crime ( I know Singapore is low crimes country, but there is still some place which is high rate of crime  laugh.gif ), and its near MRT. And lastly, cheap rental. THanks~~~~~ smile.gif

nothing as massive as Boon Lay, doubt the Little Dhaka. That place use to be dominated by Malaysian in the late 80's and early 90's with frequent gang fight

Any of you hosted family for a couple nights before on the cheap? As in like, I need to house like 8 adults for 2 or 3 nights. Too many people to fit into my HDB, and hotel accommodation is like $200 x 4 rooms x 3 nights = $2,400 doh.gif
*
You can try YMCA, slightly cheaper. Or maybe resorts, example like those NTUC ones.

there are Fix Bonus and Variable Bonus (growth bonus, PB....)

I am refering to PB, will your company actually adjust the total PB base on the industry performance of the year or strickly follow a formular based on the performance grade and salary band?
*
we don't have performance bonus after certain level. The performance will directly tie to AI %.

For laptop means data only plan. No voice plan. The sim card will work in a phone, dongle or tablet etc. There's just no voice, so you can't make or receive calls.
*
Not true coz m1 data plan can also make calls and SMS. I've used it for a couple of years.

There's no voice on Singtel's data only plans, which is what the original question was asking. SMS yes for incoming but not for outgoing except to network codes.

Maybe you have a iPhone plan and don't know it.
*
Coz u mentioned M1 sun surf in your replied. Anyway just to clear it up.
I have a iPhone and a separate data plan for my mifi device as well.
