Sorry if this a repeated question.

I'm a mechanical designer now in malaysia. Been working 2 years plus now.  I finally made up my mind to work in Singapore. But I'm having dilemma whether to go to Singapore to start searching or apply from here and go there for interview if they called. I have been applying from jobstreet from the past few weeks.

My question is, what are my chances of getting a job if I continue to work here in malaysia and wait for employers to call me. The reason why I'm doing this is because I have commitments here and I'm not in a financially sound at the time being to go right down to look for a job.

+1.Actually I do feel that for those who are staying quite far from Singapore, i'm not recommending you guys stay in Singapore and look for a job. Nowadays those companies in Singapore are rarely accept walk in interview. Even you try to submit resume or watsoever to them, they are either reject you and ask you to apply through online, or they just take your paper and you will be wondering whether it will send to HR or not.

Even I live in JB, i also need to spend few months, to get a job. Maybe is my luck is not enough, but assuming your situation is like me, staying in Singapore for few months is going to cost you......  . If a company would like to hire you, no matter where you are, they will surely ask you to come for interview.

Going to live in Farrer Park and start work on June 1st, I'm lucky that this company HR is willingly to wait 2 and half months due to my current contract.  :

Actually, even you are fresh grad, it is still possible for you of getting hired. Its just whether the company wanna hire you or not compare with others who have better qualification. But this is somehow depend on your luck. Sometimes even you have the great qualification and skills, the company would still try to tease you or even make fun on you. I have a real scenario among my friends.

I would say go for it, special qualification or set of skills? Its quite vary.

I'm wondering your special skills for fresh grad is referred as? Lower cost? This doesn't apply only to fresh grad, its even applied to everyone, even how good are you with bunch of exp and cert, you will still expect lower salary compare to local candidate, even you got PR. (better than Non-PR, but still can't beat local singaporean)

Nowadays there are few Singapore company are having trends even how high is your qualification, whether double degree, or even u got PHD, you might lose to a local citizen with a Degree cert. Furthermore the person has worked in Singapore for 3 years, + with a PR. This is not something that with qualification + lower salary demand can settle. Seriously, this is being as luck on getting the job. The treatment lines between us being as foreigner and local citizen are too significant. This is same goes to Australia as well.

back to my question again, are you so sure you can get higher salary than the local citizen?

I would think that they are underachievers or underpaid. That age bracket i.e. mid30's-40? There are a few in my department and I doubt any of them are pulling in less than 100k per annum.
