Guys is there any problem running mp4 720p video
I use many player but all show black screen with sound

Hardware acceleration = blank screen
Sodtware accleration = lag

So sad there is no xda developers' support for s advance @@
Though no JB no ics.. it is still a nice phone ^^

so far i only encounter this problem while playing 1080p file...
720p is smooth iinm

720p mkv got lag

whats the current price of the phone? do anybody know any place selling this phone for cheap?

try your luck at garage sales...



owh, btw, i can play mkv 720p just fine...perhaps problem with the codec?

same with me.. mkv 720p play flawlessly without any conversion.. usually i just stream from my pc..

I used CPU Spy. Left my phone untouch throughout the night with wifi,data and bluetooth off. Then i found out that 200MHz is quite high and deep sleep is low. This means?

maybe there's something preventing ur phone from entering deep sleep...
other thread mention about using 'BetterBatteryStats' app to monitor which app cause this.

Just to share my experience and thought...

Why would you want to run 1080p (Full HD) video in this phone?
The screen resolution is only 800 x 480, while full HD=1920 × 1080.
The screen will not show any better quality for any video with resolution higher than 800x480 (480p).
On the contrary the cpu will waste the process power on these extra data with no gain, and cause lagging.
It will scale the video down to 800x480 to fit the screen anyway.
And the 1080p video also taken up more storage as compare to 480p video.

The rule of thumb is to find the video with resolution fit the screen resolution.
With that, you get the best performance and best video quality the screen can reproduce, and save those precious storage space. i.e. optimised result.

This is a great phone, overall smooth performance with such competitive price from Samsung.

my reason why needed to run 1080p is quite simple
more than half of my video downloaded in 1080p format instead of 720p

rule of thumb as you said is resolution fitting the screen, but some people are not so technical about those

when you have many 1080p video that needed to be converted/redownloaded i dont think all those matter anymore, rather just copy, paste and play is faster


i currently have a galaxy tab 7.7, it just copy and play every 1080p , works well with external hdd with power source

Comparing s advance to tab 7.7, it has less powerful cpu (1Ghz dual core against 1.4 dual core) and lesser RAM (768mb against 1GB)...these 2 impact greatly on playing full hd video smoothly or not...

Seeing your need and the result, s advance just seems not suitable as a full hd media player...
