i also wanna know

I'll compare it with WDC Black and Green since both has marginal performance differences.
Black will definitely have higher transfer rate due to its higher spindle rate, let say 100MB/s (Black) vs 80MB/s (Green)
In terms of access performance, Black will always active and have much faster response, say 2~5ms (Black) vs 4~20ms (Green) depends on situation.
If you're looking at data transfer over network, then it has no different, due to the fact you may not max out the network capacity itself, Gbps network recommended in this case.
Depends on your needs, you may be looking at what would you put on the hard disk and what will you do with the data.

There are basically 2 variables affecting data transfer. Platter density and rotational speed.

If all things being equal, higher rotational speed gives the ability to transfer data faster.

Just like higher rotational speed, higher density disc platter like the ones used in WD Red and Seagate's latest generation drives (1TB per platter) also allows for higher data transfer.

Most new hardisk especially the low powered ones with lower 5400 rpm are still able to rival the higher 7200 rpm ones because of the higher platter density employed.

As for access time, only rotational speed affects this and higher rotational speed means lower access times.

i cannot compare WD Green/Blue with Seagate HDD as last time i use Seagate Hdd is 2001-2003,

x
But i can tell you that WD Green Only For Storage e.g. File/Picture/movie/Porn as it have powerSaving mode/use less energey/less heat/Noise... Warranty 2YR only

WD Blue is okay for OS/Program...

WD Black is best for Performance/5 year warranty

But! no HDD compare to SSD if againt Performance... but disadvantage SSD is Price/Space...

Can you still access the HDD?
If the drive can still be accessed even though it took very long time to reach one folder then you have high chances of retrieving your important data.
And mind elaborate your drive's status, "bad . backup and replace" seems too general, could be just SMART warning or bad sectors.

The previous Transcend is using Samsung drives, I'm not sure about current one though.
The company that I dealt with has 2 units of Transcend drives and so far it has no issue, the outer layer is rubber to absorb some vibration during drop, but no matter how it's built, never drop while operation, else it'll break like no tomorrow and say bye bye to the data.

Mind tell us the model (so we all can avoid it next time whistling.gif )?
Anyway if the sound is really loud (louder than your chassis fan) and clicking noise then you may send it back again (until it's fix) or give the CS (Customer Service) a few "shout" to make them know the severity. doh.gif

Anyway you have to make sure it's the hard disk that making the noise instead of probably your PSU?

It's ok lah for the function you want. I needed one for my kids when we were traveling last year. Able to set it up as hotspot and stream movies to my android phones to it even when on the plane. I streamed 1080p cartoons but only 1 connection. If you try another, the playback will not be smooth.

For hotels that only allow one wifi device per room to be connected to internet, you can set the Seagate as a gateway to share one internet connection to several devices.

Speed of the hardisk is quite ok. For wireless, it should be fine. USB 3 connection is nice when you need to transfer huge files from your NAS to it.

Battery is about 4 hours give or take.

Ok, based on YOUR experience, which brand is more reliable? Need to get one soon... For me, I've been Seagate user for the past 10 years...

i heard some tictic noise from my computer.. guess it's time to change my harddisk.. any recommendations?

has been using samsung faithfully over the years.
need around 2gb. speed doesn't matter much as my maindrive would be a SSD.

reliability>price>performance

thank you

Died in what way? Unable to detect? No spinning (power)?
It all depends on what way it died, if it's still accessible using device manager, possibility will be high, but if there's no power at all then you have to seek professional helps also means you have to give advance ang pao (big big one).

No reliable in my dictionary, at least in my experience, all brands die on me no matter how careful I use them.
Reliable = Redundancy + Backup. nod.gif

2GB? I assume you want 2TB.
When it's ticking, do you perform any activity on that hard disk? Reading/writing files?
If the ticking is loud and clear then probably it's mechanical failure, try to turn it off (unplug SATA power after off PC) until you find any sort of backup solution to backup all the data inside (use cloning fastest) then send for warranty? or continue use and see how it dies... sweat.gif
If you want Samsung, then go for Seagate, Seagate already acquired Samsung.
