QUOTE(Chew Yongxian @ Jan 17 2014, 02:04 AM) T.T Duuuuude don't jinx me man, I just got it. Ahhaha. If there were cheap RAID cards, the one on the Intel motherboard is better. So why bother with cheap RAID cards? The expensive ones different story. Not sure thought, I know it's the 7200.14, but Ace calls em Barracuda GTs. Oh well, ST3000DM001 it is. No harm done really. Yup, only one, but will get a second one soon. And I'm going to go RAID 0. And yeah, that's why I'm asking you. Cuz I know RAID cards are expensive as heck, and would be of no use unless I get 3-5 drives or more to utilize it. Maybe you have a good cheap one in mind. But since that's not the case, no RAID cards for me then. When you check your warranty online, the section for Product Replacement (RMA) is just next to it.You need to register first though. https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/?lang=en QUOTE(clearcase @ Jan 17 2014, 09:13 PM) No need to call. QUOTE(Dickong @ Jan 19 2014, 06:07 PM) QUOTE(marine88 @ Jan 20 2014, 03:31 AM) I'll compare it with WDC Black and Green since both has marginal performance differences.Black will definitely have higher transfer rate due to its higher spindle rate, let say 100MB/s (Black) vs 80MB/s (Green) In terms of access performance, Black will always active and have much faster response, say 2~5ms (Black) vs 4~20ms (Green) depends on situation. If you're looking at data transfer over network, then it has no different, due to the fact you may not max out the network capacity itself, Gbps network recommended in this case. Depends on your needs, you may be looking at what would you put on the hard disk and what will you do with the data. |

QUOTE(Dickong @ Jan 19 2014, 06:07 PM) There are basically 2 variables affecting data transfer. Platter density and rotational speed. If all things being equal, higher rotational speed gives the ability to transfer data faster. Just like higher rotational speed, higher density disc platter like the ones used in WD Red and Seagate's latest generation drives (1TB per platter) also allows for higher data transfer. Most new hardisk especially the low powered ones with lower 5400 rpm are still able to rival the higher 7200 rpm ones because of the higher platter density employed. As for access time, only rotational speed affects this and higher rotational speed means lower access times. QUOTE(marine88 @ Jan 20 2014, 05:22 PM) Black ! |

Warranty 2YR only WD Blue is okay for OS/Program... WD Black is best for Performance/5 year warranty But! no HDD compare to SSD if againt Performance... but disadvantage SSD is Price/Space... |

QUOTE(arimii @ Jan 20 2014, 07:24 PM) my 3 yrs old 320gb hitachi just died . status bad . backup and replace Can you still access the HDD? any chance that I can backup this drive for the last time ? If the drive can still be accessed even though it took very long time to reach one folder then you have high chances of retrieving your important data. And mind elaborate your drive's status, "bad . backup and replace" seems too general, could be just SMART warning or bad sectors. |

The previous Transcend is using Samsung drives, I'm not sure about current one though. The company that I dealt with has 2 units of Transcend drives and so far it has no issue, the outer layer is rubber to absorb some vibration during drop, but no matter how it's built, never drop while operation, else it'll break like no tomorrow and say bye bye to the data. |

QUOTE(Alfsaw @ Jan 24 2014, 01:20 PM) Hey guys, my HDD which ive returned back for a second round of RMA is making sounds again. Mind tell us the model (so we all can avoid it next time Like a deep and slow buzzing sound. Should i send it back again, as Ive already sent it back twice. Anyway if the sound is really loud (louder than your chassis fan) and clicking noise then you may send it back again (until it's fix) or give the CS (Customer Service) a few "shout" to make them know the severity. Anyway you have to make sure it's the hard disk that making the noise instead of probably your PSU? |

QUOTE(Maxieos @ Jan 25 2014, 12:14 AM) Anyone know whether Seagate Wireless Plus portable hard drive is good ? It's ok lah for the function you want. I needed one for my kids when we were traveling last year. Able to set it up as hotspot and stream movies to my android phones to it even when on the plane. I streamed 1080p cartoons but only 1 connection. If you try another, the playback will not be smooth.I didn't see anywhere selling , does WD have this kind of function hard disk wireless ? http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/03/the...st-isnt-enough/ For hotels that only allow one wifi device per room to be connected to internet, you can set the Seagate as a gateway to share one internet connection to several devices. Speed of the hardisk is quite ok. For wireless, it should be fine. USB 3 connection is nice when you need to transfer huge files from your NAS to it. Battery is about 4 hours give or take. |
