Very new to photography, just wanna get myself a nice camera for daily use.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : Semi pro / compact also can
Budget : Below RM1400
Your Location : KL
Preferable brand : Any
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape,Potrait
Any specific models in mind? : G12 as my friend is using one and it seems nice.
Any specific features u want? : Can take clear picture even with low light and even with super shaky hand. Best if the screen can flip over so can do self shot biggrin.gif also sometimes would like to do some artistic picture, like those macro zoom thingy...am I asking too much for a camera with that budget?  hmm.gif
*
G12? not a bad choice... but around 1400 you can get some entry level inter-changeable lens or M43 camera also, will you consider those?
If fix lens is priority, XZ-1 or G12 is nice as I have tried both before. But if you want good low light performance with shaky hand... maybe you should consider XZ-1 from Olympus for the brighter lens. Both camera are not really good in high ISO performance, so the bright lens of XZ-1 has advantage over G12.

I'm actually open for both fix lens and inter-changeable lens. What does M43 means??
I really had very little knowledge on camera, so I'm surveying now. Any other recommendation with that budget?
*
yes, M43 means micro four third system camera...
You can have a look at Olympus or Panasonic which has decent entry level inter-changeable lens camera around 1500...
And for fix lens I have recommend you XZ-1 or G12... so you can have a look at their specs and try them out.

hi,need advise which lens is better choice for my d5100 body smile.gif (finally bought it!!)

a)Kit lens 18-55mm + 35mm f1.8G
b)Tamron 18-200mm F3.5 - 6.3 XR DI II + macro convertor

i will be taking it during holiday n taking pic for family event...
*
personally will go for choice (a) first... or u can consider a fast zoom lens (i'm not sure what nikon hav, if canon it will be like the 24-70mm F2.8) as your starting "daily" kit... then only slowly expand

Did you tried using this model before ? Great ?
*
i never try it before personally. but based on your requirement, that's what i can recommend. you can google some sample pic and see.
and most importantly, go try out yourself at the shop!
for other brand I'm not too familiar... you have to check it out yourself, or need to find some other sifu to help u...

refer a few post back, your requirement is similar with the others. if your only require fix lens camera, then how "compact" is your compact?
do you mean slim enough to put in your pocket? if so, you may consider Canon S100, Nikon P310. these are more "high end" compact camera.
S100 got quite good ISO performance.
if slightly bigger is still acceptable, maybe XZ-1 can be consider... (not sure the market price now, i think it is still within your budget...)

May I know if I buy Canon IXUS Series or more specifically Canon IXUS 125HS,

can I shoot Panoramic directly from the camera ?
or
must download to computer & do stitching using software it in the computer ?
*
as far as i know, no Canon has such function. you may need to look for Sony as they are great in this.
maybe you can try out something like Cyber Shot DSC-WX100/B...

After comparing these 2 models,
Canon IXUS 125 HS
&
Sony DSC-WX100/B

which is better for my requirement (as stated above) recommended for me ?
Thanks.
*
erm, looking on the spec requirement of yours, mainly you need shoot architecture, means need wide angel... Canon got 24mm, Sony got 25mm
seems more or less comparable.
then if shoot dark interior need high ISO (or bright lens), Canon give ISO 100-3200, F2.7 at wide end while sony give up to 12800, but only F3.3 at wide end.
Canon has a brighter lens here, but Sony compensate it's slower lens with big ISO range. not sure the high ISO picture is acceptable or not, if Yes, then you can consider it.
Flash, both camera got.
if you need shoot far object, Sony better cos can reach up to 250mm (canon only 120mm). not sure you require this or not.
Panorama... for sure Sony wins with build in panorama sweep function.

so after the breakdown, what is suitable for you? go try out the camera at the shop in order to know the exact quality of the picture.

Type of photography u want to do : Travel, Landscape or Portrait
Any specific models in mind? : Nex 5n, a57, canon 600d
Any specific features u want? : nice pictures

Planning to get new dslr but still undecided in getting a DSLR, price quite high and it's bulky.
Looking at compact camera Canon IXUS 230. Would love to hear your views so that i can decide. TQ
*
if you shoot a lot landscape, it's worth to invest in DSLR for better dynamic range. If bulk is your concern, then you should go for mirrorless system like Nex 5N.
If you wan to further reduce the bulk, with compromise over a bit of dynamic range and speed... Canon G1X.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR/Mirrorless + 50mm F/1.8
Budget : RM2,500 (can stretch to RM3,000 if I must)
Your Location : KL, Penang
Preferable brand : Canon, Sony
Type of photography u want to do : Travel, Objects, Portrait (sometimes)
Any specific models in mind? : Canon 550D, Sony NEX F3
Any specific features u want? : Good low-light performance.

I'm quite fond of the new Sony NEX F3 and I really really want the 50mm F/1.8 lens. With the lens, Sony will cost about RM3,100 and Canon is only about RM2,300. It's a huge difference and with the two lenses together, Canon 550D is only heavier by about 100g~150g as compared to Sony NEX F3, though I agree it's bulkier. Please, let me hear your thoughts. I need to upgrade soon and I still haven't decided.
*
I haven't try the NEX-F3 yet. but if it is similar to the C3, then you will get less control compare to DSLR.
If bulk is not your concern, try consider DSLR. Cos NEX even it is small, but sometimes people may feel not comfortable holding it, like not enough grip.
Well, this can be the same with entry level DSLR as well.

** actually, i am choosing either a waterproof cam or a dslr quality compact cam but if there is a cam tat can fulfill both requirement then tats good. =)

tyvm
*
rather not-so-clear requirement, hmm... you want to have all in one compact body camera or lens changing camera?
assume bulk is your concern, i will not consider DSLR. with 2K, you can either go for
Canon G12/G1X (i think i saw a post that you dislike this camera...)
M43 system such as Olympus Pen mini, panasonic GF series...
Entry level mirrorless Sony NEX-F3...
if you have more specific requirement then can narrow down further.

guys....the sony nex series which is the best 1?the best for entry level?
*
NEX currently got F3, C3, 5N and Nex 7.
If you talk about entry, let's forget the 7.
if C3 vs 5N, i will choose 5N for sure. a bit higher in price but i think worth.
But i think F3 is getting closer to 5N, haven't try before, so can't compare them.

*
for your price range, you can either go for sony A35, nikon 5100 or canon 600D...
well, in terms of taking low light picture i think 5100 has an advantage...
but in terms of video... i feel more comfortable with sony or canon... just personal preference though. suggest you go try out and see.
see which feature you weight the most... in terms of price, you can make a survey at the garage sales.

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  DSLR with lens
Budget: max RM3500
Your Location:  KL
Preferable brand :  Nikon
Type of photography u want to do :  portraits, landscapes and good at low light condition.
Any specific models in mind? :  I really like D90 but I'm open to other model options too.
Any specific features u want? :  mostly travel photography especially that I need to take photos of monasteries, the paintings, people, and these are mostly in dark-lit conditions.
*
if you do not require a "pro" body, you may consider the new canon 650D which has very nice feature and DIGIC 5 which has been confirmed its performance for low light and high ISO. Otherwise, D90 is a good choice for your budget.

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  DSLR body with general use lens
Budget: RM4000 (RM5000 max boost)
Your Location:   Sitiawan, Kampar, sometimes travel to KL
Preferable brand :  1st choice - Nikon, 2nd choice - Canon
Type of photography u want to do :  Daily life (landscape or so..), attending anime convention or group photoshooting (portrait)
Any specific models in mind? :  D7000, D90, 2nd hand D300S, or any better suggestion
Any specific features u want? :  Takes good still picture

- been using Panasonic LX3 for 3 years, want to upgrade
- not prioritize on video mode

- I found a seller selling a set of D300S at RM5200, consists of body (sc 10k), di622, 50 f1.8d, 18-55 f3.5-5.6g, 55-200 f4-5.6g, backpack, slingpack (worth?)
*
if your use is mainly shooting daily and anime girls drool.gif ...
i suggest you get a lower spec body and save the money to get yourself ultra wide angle lens + prime + short tele... (may only enough to get either two at the meantime)
You may consider D3200... but, if you really want or comfortable with a more pro-level body, D90 should be good enough.

Hi guys, so my much loved Nikon D5000 just got stolen, and I need a new camera sadly.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR or Micro 4/3 with lens
Budget: Ideally not more than RM2.5k
Your Location:   KL
Preferable brand : Nikon for DSLRs, tried Canon, hate it!
Type of photography u want to do : Mostly macro/close up photography, but also want to be able to take that camera when I go on holidays, or when watch football or gigs.
Any specific models in mind? : At the moment D5100 and Lumix G3
Any specific features u want? : Obviously need big aperture and manual focus for macro biggrin.gif

Would appreciate some help here guys. I've got a simple light booth if that is of any help.
*
sorry to hear that.
if you like DSLR, then just get yourself D5100.
If you want to get away with the bulk, you can always try the Olympus PEN series for good quality Micro 4/3 camera.
and... why u so hate canon? haha...

If not, you have to get Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS which has the best image quality so far...
you may consider some water proof Sony Cybershot as well, but I'm not too familiar with them, so nothing much to comment.

sup guys, hope this is the right place to ask about lens. anyway, im currently sourcing for an average lens to use with my nikon d90. i take landscape pictures most of the time, therefore any recommendations ?
*
if landscape i will go for ultra wide... maybe something like 12-24mm. Not using nikon system so cant really suggest which lens to use.
also depends on your existing lens collection, then only consider the next upgrade to fill up the gap of focal length.

consider G1 X rather S100. J1 personally think not a good buy. LX5 is compact, while GF3 is interchangeable lens. you have to decide whether you need to have interchangeable lens or not.
