QUOTE(SupermotoXL @ Mar 5 2023, 09:46 PM) My Tamiya HOTSHOT II 'Blockhead Motor' build Hi,I wonder why I didn’t stumble into this thread and you, dear master.Check out my latest project this month, the revival of 1987 Tamiya HOTSHOT II 'Blockhead Motor' Edition. Enjoying my build for my missing childhood dream. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwFWxgQmIyc I’m planning to get a 1/10 buggy for bashing around in my condo and nearby sandy beaches in Penang. I thought about getting the Neo scorcher TT-02b which also in a way fulfills my own childhood dreams. Do you think if I somehow get the urge to bring up the speed to a say 23T super stock motor this kit can still sustain it? I read many places the westerners upgrade the diff to metal from DF-02 but I think not easy to do this in Malaysia. Should I just forget tamiya and just focus on something cheap from China like HSP 94107 or VRX or DBX? My personal habit is like to mod but I also aware of finances. I used to race 1/10 EP touring fiercely. Hence I sometimes have the need for speed. I also plan to buy a lunch box for my 13 yo son. That will definitely be stock cos he is very beginner. Sorry for late reply, "Neo scorcher TT-02b" is a great buggy for fun running around sandy beaches. The kit can handle 23T super stock motor. If you're a good driver and doesn't trigger happy on when cornering around the track then you don't have to upgrade to metal differential gear because the torque load will not strip any gear tooth if you drive it like real car. However if you go harsh like a basher and trigger happy with the throttle then you'll pretty much kill everything not only the differential gear but also spur gear, pinion and also the dog bones/CVD shaft. Tamiya is great for rc driver who knows how to drive 'properly'. If you want to bash, fly off the ramps and doesn't want spend money on broken parts then TRAXXAS brand is your best bet. I've been driving with china brand like HSP, WL-toys and other through sponsorship; the gear parts worn out faster and you'll need to spend more money to get where it perform on par with TAMIYA, TRAXXAS, HPI or well known brand like X-RAY. If you want need for speed TRAXXAS, if you want style and scale real like driving go for TAMIYA. Branded models like TRAXXAS and TAMIYA the pros are you will have life time parts support over 10 years anywhere. China brand not much, it support for 3 years and be done with it. As for your son, yes LUNCH BOX is best 'fun' all can do monster truck to drive around. Your kid will laugh and enjoy seeing it wheelie and jump around berms and ramp. Very durable at stock speed. |

QUOTE(SupermotoXL @ Nov 22 2023, 07:39 AM) Hi lee82gx, thanks sifu, guess what in the mean time I bought an Arrma 1/8 6S Notorious...lol. Its a bit easier to get parts than Traxxas which was my key consideration eventually. I'm going to Japan next year so will very likely buy a Lunch Box as souvenir for my son. I am meanwhile deliberating whether to get a BBX buggy for myself, but honestly I am struggling to find a nearby and convenient place to play with buggies. Ah! yes ARMA models are as tough as Traxxas. Good choice right there, very expensive too but they are great basher and easy to get parts . Get Tamiya BBX, beautiful scale dune buggy. I'm myself planning to get one too once my budget ok. I'm interested to add a simple FPV to my RC, If I dont want to use googles but a flat monitor or better still an Iphone is there such a thing? |

They have that "Team Associates 1/10 Apex2 Sport A550 4WD" as you mentioned above but such brand quite expensive cost double and triple of Tamiya. I prefer Tamiya for aesthetic looks and great budget for starter, plus easy to upgrade with existing parts in the market. This post has been edited by SupermotoXL: Dec 12 2023, 07:11 AM |

QUOTE(SupermotoXL @ Dec 12 2023, 07:09 AM) The only and my favorite place to find rally car like this is at this R/C website at hong kong: https://www.rcmart.com/Car-Kits/RC-Rally-Car Thanks.I bought lots of RC stuff at this website. However I asked around for abit, and watched some youtube, I decided to go with the assembling kit route. Wanting to start next year, I am using the LC Racing PTG 2R chassis as a start. However i still have a nagging feeling that I like that tamiya MF01x, but i am not sure how durable they are. This post has been edited by Fatimus: Dec 12 2023, 03:32 PM SupermotoXL liked this post

QUOTE(Fatimus @ Dec 12 2023, 01:47 PM) Thanks. LC Racing PTG 2R chassis is a great performance racing chassis, smooth suspension lingkage, low CG and great cornering handling at high speed. For Tamiya MF01x durable enough for scale/stock driving but not for bashing or serious competition racer, just like TL01 form factor not so good at high speed cornering, will have chassis flex a it and suspension arm can be a bit rough to tune in. The pros is the gears are encase away from dirt thus which makes it a good dirt rally car. If your in for scale show car style driving Tamiya is good enough. For serious racing i'll put Tamiya body shell on LC Racing PTG 2R chassis. However I asked around for abit, and watched some youtube, I decided to go with the assembling kit route. What I have in mind is one chassis + various body shells at 1/10. Granted the body shells might stack up in the end but at least I will only worry about where to arrange the shells. It doesn't help that I can hardly find any shell, especially rally theme body shells, for the tamiya M chassis, or specifically for MF01X, or maybe my google-fu isn't good enough. But eh who knows, I might change my mind again as 2024 comes along. Thanks again. |

Actually any car body with the correct wheelbase can work (to a certain extent) no? https://tamiyabase.com/chassis/156-mf-01x#m...-mf-01x-chassis |
