Introducing Xperia S - the first Sony smartphone

    - First smartphone in the new Xperia NXT series - next generation smartphones from Sony

    - Effortless sharing of content with easy connectivity across multiple screens within the world of Sony

    - Sony HD experience boasting a brilliant screen for superior viewing

Xperia™ S, the first smartphone from the new Xperia NXT series - next generation smartphones from Sony*, was today announced at Sony's press conference ahead of the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas. The new Xperia S is an Android smartphone that delivers a stunning viewing experience with a high resolution screen, Sony HD experiences and a 12MP camera that takes pictures in just 1.5 seconds from standby. Xperia S also comes with a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor for faster performance.

Xperia S within the world of Sony

The new Xperia S enables easy connectivity with multiple screens for consumers looking to share and enjoy content on whichever screen best suits their situation, whether it's TV, smartphone, laptop or tablet. Consumers can watch their favourite content from the Sony Entertainment Network by connecting their Xperia S through HMDI to TV or share photos wirelessly with just one touch. Xperia S is also NFC (near field communication) enabled to allow consumers to share content with each other as well as enjoying an increasing number of NFC applications and services.

Biggest and best entertainment experiences from Sony

Xperia S will be able to access the richest entertainment experiences from Sony Entertainment Network**. Music Unlimited offers a global catalogue of 12 million unique songs while Video Unlimited has the latest Hollywood blockbusters and TV shows from all major studios***.
Xperia S is also PlayStation™ Certified, guaranteeing a high quality smartphone gaming experience and access to the PlayStation® Store****.

    Instantly Recognizable Design

Xperia S showcases a new design approach referred to as "Iconic Identity". The design will be replicated across the Xperia NXT series and creates a simple strong look that is instantly recognizable. The transparent element at the base creates an iconic silhouette where the display is emphasized and underlined. In addition, it provides illumination effects and integrates the antenna components.

The user Interface has been redesigned to match the minimalistic design of the hardware. The home screen has a new colorful flow background making full usage of HD Reality Display and dual-core processing power.

    Availability

Xperia S will be available to consumers globally from the first quarter 2012. Launching on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread) Xperia S will be upgraded to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter 2012.

    Key Features for Xperia S

    - 4.3 inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720), as well as front (720p) and back (1080p) cameras for HD recording.

    - 1.5GHz dual-core processor for fast browsing and content download, which can be stored on the internal 32GB flash storage.

    - 12MP back camera with Sony Exmor R™ for mobile along with Fastest Capture to take shots in just 1.5 seconds directly from standby mode.

    - NFC (Near Field Communications) enabled to access growing range of NFC applications and services as well as Xperia SmartTags.

    - With HD sharing through DLNA, HDMI and using BRAVIA Sync for controlling your Xperia S with your TV remote control when connected to the TV, Xperia S delivers a full HD experience on TV.

    Smart Extras for Android

The announcement of Xperia S is supported by the launch of three new Smart Extras™ accessories to enhance the experience on Android and to bring content to consumers' smartphones in an entirely new way.

Xperia SmartTags - switch your smartphone settings with a single swipe

Xperia SmartTags work with any NFC enabled smartphone, including Xperia S. Simply touch a NFC enabled smartphone to a SmartTag, which is the shape and size of a small round token, and it launches a pre-configured profile in the phone, such as the alarm clock for a SmartTag by your bed or a GPS application for the SmartTag in your car. These profiles can be easily personalised to reflect any taste, designed to save consumers time and make their smartphone lives easier.

Smart Wireless Headset pro - the Bluetooth headset that does it all

This Bluetooth™ stereo headset for Android smartphones offers multifunctional features in addition to superior sound. On the display of Smart Wireless Headset pro users can read text messages, see incoming calls, access calendar notifications and much more. When detached from the phone it functions as a standalone MP3 player and radio.

SmartWatch - access apps and smartphone features with a micro display for Android

SmartWatch is a micro display accessory for communicating with an Android™ smartphone via Bluetooth. Consumers can, for example, discretely access text messages, social media updates and manage calls or music. The display is mounted on a strap and can be worn as a watch. Applications allowing users to personalize their SmartWatch experience will be available on Android™ market.

SmartWatch: It is a LiveView successor and is basically a micro display for Android smartphones, to wirelessly access calls, messages and applications. It features 128×128 pixels, 1.3” OLED touch display, Bluetooth and is splash proof (supporting IP54). It also includes a vibrating unit, accelerometer and a hardware button.

Smart Wireless Headset pro: It is a Bluetooth stereo headset that also works as a standalone MP3 player and FM radio when apart from the phone. It comes with a SD card reader and can handle SD cards up to 32GB. Smart Wireless Headset Pro features a portable FM radio, and a two row display.

Smart Tags: Using the NFC functionality of the new Xperia phones to change the settings of the handset with a single pass. Once the phone is touched with a SmartTag, it will launch a preconfigured profile inside the phone. For example you may have a SmartTag in your car which will activate a GPS application. Customisation is key here and Sony will allow you to easily customise the tags to make your lives easier.

Apparently, Xperia S offers 16GB or 32GB of internal storage but there's no expansion slot for Micro SD. doh.gif So stuck with maximum 32GB only.

Yeah, I'm guessing slight higher than Xperia Arc when it's first released, since this time internal storage of 16GB/32GB is included.

Btw i love it has a very high internal memory howeva, without expansion slot, i bet this phon would be at least 2.3-2.5k for the 32gb 2-2.2k for 16gb. I know i assume quite an expensive price, but that is wat to xpect wit sony.

Apart from Xperia S and Xperia ION, another two models was announced today; Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD. But these two models only for Japan market.

(Xperia acro HD) The Xperia acro HD has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch HD resolution display (720 x 1280 pixels) and a 12.1MP Exmor R camera sensor. It also comes with micro HDMI, 16GB of internal storage and a 1840mAh battery. Unusually this handset will also be waterproof to depths of 1m. The Xperia acro will be available in four colours (Aqua Blue, Black, Sakura Pink, Ceramic White). It will also have Japanese specific features such as infrared port, NFC mobile wallet and a TV tuner and is a follow-up from last year’s best-selling Xperia acro.

(Xperia NX) The Xperia NX (SO-02D) is basically a Japanese version of the Xperia S.

Yeah, XPERIA S is NFC-enabled.

Here's a trailer showing XPERIA S using NFC feature on Smart Tags:

Smart Tags: Using the NFC functionality of the new Xperia phones to change the settings of the handset with a single pass. Once the phone is touched with a SmartTag, it will launch a preconfigured profile inside the phone. For example you may have a SmartTag in your car which will activate a GPS application. Customisation is key here and Sony will allow you to easily customise the tags to make your lives easier.

my firsth thought was "why so square and ugly??"

but after that, my heart melts looking at the white version. and more review videos coming in. Love the unique transparent part. I've been waiting for Sony to come up with new models, I guess this will be it. But judging from the price (since sony stuffs are pricey), I gotta start saving now. biggrin.gif

Next month during Mobile World Congress(MWC), more and more new models from Samsung and other companies will be announced. Sony need to have competitive price when selling this phone, since it's Dual-Core. I dunno whether other companies will announced Quad-Core smartphones anytime soon, but if they do, Sony will definitely need to lower the price. tongue.gif

At the moment, only one device with Quad-Core that has been released to market; Sony PS Vita.

Apparently, Xperia S offers 16GB or 32GB of internal storage but there's no expansion slot for Micro SD.  doh.gif So stuck with maximum 32GB only.

Next month during Mobile World Congress(MWC), more and more new models from Samsung and other companies will be announced. Sony need to have competitive price when selling this phone, since it's Dual-Core. I dunno whether other companies will announced Quad-Core smartphones anytime soon, but if they do, Sony will definitely need to lower the price. tongue.gif

so far i hv heard padfone wil hav a quadcore, but is yet to reveal itself, the only phone wit quadcore dat make an appearance is fujitsu, but it is still a prototype.. myb in d nex 3-6 months tym, i think we wil c the quad phone unleashed in the market. hopefully by dat tym sony wil hav their own quadphone n b d market too n not only just announcing it like last tym when other manufactures are realeasin their dualcore phone, we stil stick with single core. i just dunwan Sony to be label as slowpork in the market..

personally i think a quadcore isnt really necessary for smart phone, wat do u guys think? if tablet it is a different story,

Dont look down on sony, psvita's processor if not mistaken is developed together with toshiba and IBM. That's right, developer from the cell processor used in ps3.

btw, the nfc technology is it only available in xperia phone? or any android phone also equipped with it? It looks very similar to sony's felica technology.

First Android NFC - Samsung Nexus S, NFC enabled out of the box.
Samsung demonstrated SGS2 with NFC on MWC2011 but they launch it without NFC.
SGS2 US variations gets NFC built- in but not enabled.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus would be the second Android phone with NFC enabled.

All in all, i'm disappointed with Samsung not releasing SGS2 with NFC. Sony seems to be promising this time.

Downside of Xperia S would be Micro-sim, and no memory slot. That didn't differs it much from Galaxy Nexus.

I've been looking for a proper Android Phone with Dual Core, Android OS, NFC Enabled, and expandable Memory via Micro SDHC. None of it met my requirement yet so far.

I blieve the issue for havin a microsim as many complains is u cant use the microsim on otha phone which using normal sim right? The situation occur when u need to make a call but ur phone battery is dead, all ur fren r usin a normal sim phone, thus u cant do anythng right. I gues the best solution is a third party manufacture shud make a microsim reader or something alike. Shud solve d problem. Otha than this, is there any otha prob why many hate microsim?

Some ppl will buy the cutter and cut on their own, some will go telco and get new micro sim. All in all, u need to carry along a Micro Sim Adapter in case u want to use it on other phone, which is rather inconvenient.

I read in the official SE page and noticed this line in the TechSpecs for the Xperia S:

QUOTE
Memory
- Internal phone storage: 1 to 1.5 GB
- Memory card slot: 32 GB eMMC

Original link here

Wondering if it is a typo.

Sample pics has been released by Soyacincau:

Soyacincau : Sample pics

I must say that I'm disappointed with the quality... hopefully its just the test firmware and the official firmware would be much much better..

Also, anyone noes if this uses AMOLED or SLCD?

iP4S get no sim inserted when they cut micro-sim themselves. I'm not sure if anyone had try on Razr as it is one of the recent Android Phone release with Micro-Sim Slot recently.

Why they always do this? Preview the products then have to wait a few months to get the products!!

They should preview it 3 days before they start selling it ...

I can't wait d ... can't someone steal one of the prototypes for me?

im loving what sony done with xperia s finishing, matte. their glossy finish prone to dmmg (read:peel off) as time goes by (using xperia pro here)

hopefully it will replace arc s segment, with the same pricing as arc s.

design great, specs great. hopefully internal 1gb+memory 32gb expandable rumors isnt true, the one made me hate arc s sad.gif

I read a review said the back was made of soft matte material and it is more fingerprint resistant. Btw the S is also heavier than the Arc is it could be true.

I wonder we will start seeing Xperia S followed by the Xperia S2 in the naming conventions laugh.gif

In fact, all the 2011 Xperias run well with even single core. Sony(Ericsson) is carefully tweaked the phone so that it runs well even with single core.

The 4-core thingy is more of marketing gimmick than actual usage, let alone it drain battery like water.

Sony got to release fast coz sooner or later more powerful device will come out for other manufacturer.

ppl that getting Sony phone because of the uniqueness of the phone not the power... ppl still get Arc / Arc S although in the market already dual-core... processor nak laju2 pun bukan bleh bawak you pergi Johor... dual core for phone should be enuf... oh btw... IMHO - HTC design fugly, Samsung design too iPhone thus came the sue, motorola doh.gif ... Sony deliver consumer expectation... icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif thumbup.gif (although it's late market player cry.gif )

I'm satisfied with Sony phone especially ARC:
- updates
- FB integration
- Exmor R (although details a bit frustration due too high compression)
- Good Screen
- bootloader unlockable
- CM7 & CM9 (although alpha stages) & MIUI

Hopefully Sony will improve or on par with their record in 2011 Xperia devices

Y U WAN 4-core for the sake of want 4-core?
In fact, all the 2011 Xperias run well with even single core. Sony(Ericsson) is carefully tweaked the phone so that it runs well even with single core.

The 4-core thingy is more of marketing gimmick than actual usage, let alone it drain battery like water.
*
Single core enuf for phone... dual-core fit nicely... but quad-core??? hrmm...... too much isn't it...
I prefer dual-core + more RAM + large space... instead of quad-core

That is true, when you roll out your device sooner than your competitor, your product will have greater impact on consumer. To certain extend, even your competitor roll out better device than you did later, consumer will still buy your product due to the impact.

I believe part of the reason why they cant launch the device now might due to the transition from sony ericsson to sony.

Yeah, they need to transition fast, otherwise they can't change the logo on the phone.

As expected more new models will be announced next month at Mobile World Congress.

MWC Sony invites already arriving; more new Xperia handsets hinted

The dust has barely settled from the newly announced Xperia ion and Xperia S smartphones at CES 2012, yet this industry never sits still. PhoneArena reports that it has already received a Sony invite for the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tradeshow in Barcelona next month.

It looks like new Sony Xperia phones are on the agenda. Our guess would be that we may see the appearance of the LT22i Nypon and MT27i Pepper phones running the ST-Ericsson chipset. Here’s what the invite says: “Find out what’s new and what’s next! Join us at our Press Conference at Mobile World Congress for the latest news on our Xperia smartphone portfolio and strategy.” Mark Sunday 26th February 2012 at 18.00 (CET) in your diary now.

I'm looking forward to get myself a smartphone.
First Galaxy SII, then wait for Galaxy Note, then wait for Galaxy Nexus, now keep waiting for Xperia S.
I look forward to a camera performance review; megapixels is not important but image quality is.
Hopefully Sony will price it below RM2k, if RM1.8k I'll take out my wallet for sure smile.gif

not worth it atm imo. the game prices are very unattractive. at least for me. pricing them same as ps3 games really turns me off

buying originals for ps3 is worth it. originals for vita is no no unless the price is like half of ps3's .

anyway if im buying xperia s. im getting the sexy black 1!

Yea, same, was turned off by the game price too! That said, I'll get the xperia s first, but I'm getting the white hehe...i have a thing for white, my current se phone is white too. But I'll wait for it to be officially launched here first, read more reviews and see if it's worth it. Gotta be more careful with my $ now that I have new responsibilities.

Let's hope Xperia S is worth it and can surpass its predecessor.

I'll keep my finger crossed on the price first.

looking at its rivals in the current market:
Galaxy SII - RM1899
Galaxy Note - RM2299
Galaxy Nexus - RM2099
Razr - RM1999
Sensation XE - RM 1999

By hardware specs Xperia S is in-range with them in almost every aspect, is it really gonna be cheaper than them?

Black or White... torn apart now, don't know which one to get hmm.gif

Probably because Xperia S (previously known as Xperia Nozomi) has been in production test long before Sony acquire SE. So, some old units will have SE logo.

OT: The game price is due to Japan currency rate at the moment. Once they released in US this Feb, price will go down. But, Vita games can't really compare to other portable games, coz like Uncharted for Vita, is really like a full-fledged console game, and for the price it is worth the experience. Even the game play duration is longer than PS3 Uncharted 3. blush.gif

This unit is considered as display set/prototype set, thus it is still bearing sony ericsson name. But once the phone is ready for the market, all will be label wit Sony only.

If the price goes down for the games, I might consider getting it xD Actually, it'll be my first console LOL...was contemplating whether to get a PSP half a year ago, but then I ended up buying a new laptop which I used to play games now, so the idea flew out the window. But now it's itching back with the release of vita. This is kinda off topic but it's still sony related haha.

About the name, I'd rather it be just Sony. hehe but maybe it's just me.

One question: I've not owned any Xperia before, so just wanna ask this because this is what my sis told me. She said "Xperia phones very hard to upgrade and after upgrading, the phones sometimes got some problem." Is this true? She's been against my decision to get Sony Xperia since day one...and I'm still very much a loyal Sony fan.

I really like the ability to just press the camera button and take a picture. Reminds me of all my previous SE 'non-smart' but 'good-camera' phones.

They are back! My next phone will sure be a Sony phone. Goodbye HTC!

Imo, sony phone better than samsung phone in term of performance for single core phone. Im talkin bout arc against otha 1ghz single core phone. However for me samsung better in built quality n also offered a lot more like super amoled screen, gorilla glass n d price is also cheaper...

I wish sony too wil usin an oled lcd wit gorilla glass.

RM 1,8999 is not bad since it comes with 32GB eMMC. I am not exactly sure on how the USB on the go support works but if transfer speed is fast enough is excellent.

Maybe she was referring to lower end of xperia and the problem her friend got was from a custom rom which nkrmally got a few bugs here n there...
I own the old xperia x10.. never failed so far.. running official 2.3.3 . For an old model to get GB, that is sumtin huge..
othe manufacturer dont even give 2.3 update to their old model dat has similar spec as x10..so +1 to SE on that...

Dont worry much, SE is good brand for phone...u wont regret buying one..

Xperia S feels little square-ish to me at first sight. :/

by the way, no one actually looking forward to Xperia ION? :'(

sorry.. i know ION is only for the US currently but does anyone can assume it will be releasing for the global? judging from Xperia S (LT26i) while ION (LT28at)

will there possible be a LT28i?

Clove.co.uk has launched a pre-order price, £467.99 (or £389.99 excl. VAT).

If deliver to M'sia, postage £24, VAT £0 .. then should be around £413.99 ≈ RM 1,986.73 (using XE.com).

Xperia S feels little square-ish to me at first sight. :/

by the way, no one actually looking forward to Xperia ION? :'(

sorry.. i know ION is only for the US currently but does anyone can assume it will be releasing for the global? judging from Xperia S (LT26i) while ION (LT28at)

will there possible be a LT28i?

xperia s is xperia s BUT it is GSM version of xperia ION. don't you read the preview? biggrin.gif

The Xperia ion will go on sale in Q2 2012. Right now the Sony Xperia ion is US only but with those specs, there’s absolutely no reason why it won’t do well here. We’re hoping Sony will produce a GSM version for Malaysia. Update: It turns out there is a GSM version of the Xperia ion, it’s called the Xperia S.

ok now this is weird if xperia ion GSM version is xperia s, as it is a totally different model. the spec is also different.. Xperia ion features a 4.6-inch 1280×720 HD display, 16GB of on board storage and a speedy 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor with Adreno 220 GPU and 1GB of RAM.

Xperia S features a 4.3-inch 1280x720p HD Reality Display with Mobile Bravia Engine, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 processor and 32GB of on board storage. Additional connectivity includes DLNA, HDMI and BRAVIA Sync as well as NFC.

if xperia ion is called the xperia s, then wat do we cal xperia s then? even if u said xperia ion gsm is the actual xperia s, then it is actually the actual xperia s. still no actual/original Xperia Ion for GSM. icon_idea.gif hmm.gif

That is why brand loyalty helps.. tongue.gif im a sony fan, most gadget i hv r from sony, my walkman,ps1,2,3,psp,dslr alpha, n sony ericsson phones. Now sony is releasin its own phone, that best thing to happen to me, howeva i dun bluntly buy if the spec is outdated or to overprice even if it is sony, e.g vaio.. too expensive for a similar spec wit otha brand, so asus is my choice for laptop.
For me i'll wait till tis february mwc, i wan to know wat else sony hav to offer wit its new xperias lineup.. tongue.gif

Coming out end of January is good. Least it won't be overshadowed with news of quad-core phones when launched.

449 pounds includes VAT, we Malaysian are exempted from that. The estimated retail price should be RM1899 unless Sony feel otherwise.

IMHO dual core should be enuf... quad core might be underutilize... better dual core + 2GB ram...

dual core -> phone
quad core -> tablet

the number of cores depends on how the software utilise it.

we have 6 or 8 cores pc, that performance not really far from quad cores pc coz not alot of software optimized for to use all cores.

correct me if i'm wrong tongue.gif

I'm also wondering how much benefit against battery life since it's faster to do processing. Dual core also introduced low batter consumption, and probably quad-core will go further by reducing more battery usage.

But I can see there will be improvement in camera speed during taking photos/videos, better multitasking performance, faster browsing.

For gaming also, I think will have better graphics support. But I'll let my PS VITA do that instead for a full-fledged gaming experience. tongue.gif

At the current stage, seeing the optimization done by Sony for the Gingerbread OS in Arc, dual-core is more than enough, if your prioritization is call/sms, Facebook/Twitter, casual photographing/gaming.

Yes, for me i need the email and camera as well for work purposes , wonder how the nightshots are ,anyone know any links of sample of nightshots.

I saw the comparison between this and the ion , the ion has a slight advantage in the connectivity speed which cant be fully utilized in malaysia and the sd slot, longer hours of talktime etc. The only advantage S has over ion is the futuristic design.

can safely say that the xperia S is the best phone using dual core processor. comboed with the camera, it is truly a winner. too bad it is announced and going to release later than the competitors, else i think the this phone will triumph above others. 2012 i believe the competition will play around quad core processing and better gpu like the tegra 3. Still, i am very interested to own this xperia S smile.gif

This phone has won my heart too after seeing its review on Youtube.

Before noticing this phone, was acgtually looking at Galaxy S2, but after this pops up, things started to change. I was wondering, why would i want to phone which has no sense of smartphone design. Sony Xperia S has far greater design than the Galaxy S2. Particularly with the illuminate bar that is transparent. Yes yes? I guess i am not the only one who gets tempted by that transparent bar.

In fact, when i search the risk of getting a non-removable battery smartphone, what i got is the benefits of it.
One of the highlights was, having a non-removable battery smartphone will reduce the battery waste, people will not buy another backup battery for emergency, thus lesser battery can be produced since it harms the environment.

Price, i guess this will start @ RM1999. It could be RM2099 since the Xperia Arc started @ RM2099.

The camera is great i guess, since its using Exmor lens. Heck i care about its MP. 12.1 MP is overkill for me.
If camera quality is that important to us, might as well buy a proper DSLR. Better safe than sorry, nothing comes in a complete package.

Battery wise. Too bad, the specs are kept getting up and up, thus draining more battery charges. Unless end users like us are not that particular with the phone thickness, having a 2000mAh battery in 4.3" should not be a problem.

Anyway, Sony Xperia S FTW laugh.gif If i buy this phone, this would be my FIRST real phone. All these years were kept using my brother's 2nd hand phone vmad.gif ...

Actually I don't understand the need to remove battery. All the phones I used in the past, the only time I need to remove the battery was to insert/remove the SIM. Nothing else.
Well, I'm not a gamer, not such a heavy battery user.

Nola ... no need to be as good as DSLR, just good enough to compete with compact cameras can d ... I travel sometimes, and want to travel light. DSLR just too bulky and I'm not those 180cm caucasian height.

Once battery is killed, literally means the phone can say good bye. Though we all know Li-Ion battery has like 1000 cycle time, but the risk is still there.

Agree with you too, i guess i;ve just found my ideal phone. Even if its a 8MP, it would still an ideal smartphone for me. Does anyone agree with me? MP is just the size of the picture being taken, the quality crisp of a picture is determined more by the lens being used. Correct me if i am wrong.

SE phones usually just reboots. It is better than Samsung which hangs most of the time and have to remove the battery. I'm ok with non removable battery with SE. The thing I don't like is no external storage.

SE phones usually just reboots. It is better than Samsung which hangs most of the time and have to remove the battery. I'm ok with non removable battery with SE. The thing I don't like is no external storage.
*
Yup, usually the price of d phone is higher based on d internal memory e.g 32 is more expensive than 16gb. If i has a external slot, i may opt for the cheapest model like for 8gb version n add more memory if needed.

How much can it be lowered? laugh.gif

It is possible to drop once quad-core phones are out. Otherwise, it will stay at that range since dual core phones are now at 1.7k to 1.9k range.

Then Sony might drop price to sell more biggrin.gif Kinda hope they'll release now =,=

Yes it makes so much sense now on why Sony needs to commercialize their Xperia S and Ion as soon as possible before other competitors announces their upcoming smartphones.

rclxms.gif PSP (PlayStation Portable) games is coming to PlayStation Certified Devices (Sony Tablet and Sony Xperia phones)

QUOTE
PSP Games Coming To PlayStation Certified Devices

So far, the PlayStation Certified program hasn’t been that impressive, only offering a few PlayStation One titles with added touch controls. But the program looks to be taking the next logical step and adding more recent PSP games.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board has listed several PSP titles for “PlayStation Certified Devices”, including Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Daxter and flOw (presumably the PSP version, not the PS3 one) and a whole bunch of Pinball Heroes games based on popular SCE properties – Fat Princess, ModNation Racers, Motorstorm, Wipeout HD, High Velocity Bowling, Hot Shots Golf, PAIN and Uncharted.

If the PSP games will be available on all PlayStation Certified products, that will include Sony’s S and P tablets, the Xperia Play, the Xperia Arc and Acro in Japan and the upcoming Xperia S and Xperia ion.

Siri? Pfft...Android already has a better voice command solution which obviously none of us are aware of. But Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple attests to this. This is what Steve Wozniak says...

LG has the next quad core phone in line. I do believe the hardware technology has gone ahead of the software support which simply amounts to sales gimmick.

For instance, having a quad core would mean having four 1ghz processors. More than 1ghz will take toll on battery life and would be quite exorbitant in pricing. This means it will be slower than a 1.5ghz dual core on everyday tasks which can already take multitasking really well. Would we really want that? Plus, even most of the current apps/softwares are not optimized for dual-core operation, let alone quad-core so...gimmick people.

Ion looks nice as well. Not to mention bigger screen. But for me, I will be waiting for HTC's new lineups before considering next phone. This Xperia
S however is something to look forward to. I don't like the Ifon-ish design
of Samsung's phones.

1 thing I'm concern is if kumquat have extra features that xperia s didn't such as memory slot n removable battery.. now that will piss xperia s fan.. Sony has tendency to do this like their previous generation flagship aka arc/arc s didn't has front camer a where else their lower end/middle end line have it..

Aside from Ion's bigger screen, they're quite identical in terms of specs. Ion design is the same as any other android out there which is probably a condition set by AT&T. I'd choose Xperia S any day, especially the white one!

Xperia S no expandable memory card slot? No problem! laugh.gif
It makes me save even more money for not buying SD cards.

And screen size is really personal subjective. Personally i felt 4.3" is big enough, guess it looks real big when i slot it into my pocket. I reckon if the size is keep increasing, there will be towards an extent where it will not look like a smartphone anymore. Smart-tab perhaps laugh.gif

There's already the Galaxy Note and Nexus ... But glad Sony is joining the fray.
So ... if Sony is succesful in 2012 would it be the big 3? HTC,Samsung and Sony?
The design of Xperia S has sway me away from all other brand biggrin.gif

I didn't watch the video ... the intro page one drives me crazy already tongue.gif

I hope this new Xperia S will not disappoint us in performance. The earlier Xperia Arc was launched with great fanfare and it was the second worst Android phone I have ever used. Even the lower Incredible S beats it flatly in so many areas. Looking good is one thing - performance is more important

It is too late. They are doing dual-core when everyone else is moving quad-core.

It's not too late though ... If it doesn't get overprice and quad-core not even dual-core is not fully utilize. Dual-Core may stay for a while... There's still market and room for dual-core to grow.

Yeah I don't think it's all about the number of cores. DHD is still doing fine. Perhaps the things it would be lacking is

the performance or requirements to play certain games. For me, I don't need to play those games. On the phone,

I rather do my texting, Whatsapp-ing, emailing, browsing and whatnot rather than the games. So, it's more of the

usage of the resources is more important having more firepower. I hope this X-S will be that kind of phone. Good

looking hardware integrated well with the softwares. *Fingers crossed blush.gif

Yeah for me the price is important as well. Let's hope the quad-core phones will be out sooner so the price of this

phone will be lower. Ka-ching! cool2.gif

Of course, not to forget, the main issue always, at least for me, the battery life sweat.gif During the pre-dual cores

phone, people would say that the battery would last longer because "more cores means that it would be more

power-efficient". I would say, it still the same. yawn.gif

Yea biggrin.gif I quite worried about the battery life for the SXS drool.gif
I guess we just have to wait, read the reviews and hope for the best.
But doesn't dual-core drain battery faster?

The first SGS is my worst Android phone I have ever used. Even with cook roms, applying Voodoo tweaks etc , it is still terribly laggy. GPS - is absolutely a complete writeoff - most times slow to lock, inaccurate and not reliable. The worst Samsung phone I have ever used. Sell it off while you can still get a reasonable price for it

So true for this...
I've tested my Brother's SGS II. With Voodoo Control, the Super AMOLED of SGS and Sound of SGS is superior than SGS II. tongue.gif

SGS is praised for everything EXCEPT GPS... smile.gif

Now, newer SGS aka SGS Plus have the GPS problem fixed.
The old SGS(GT-i9000 and it's variants like SGH-i897, T959, SGH-i896, i9088, etc) are having terrible GPS even with tons of tweaks and fixes. doh.gif
Without those tweaks, it's AKA UNUSABLE. mad.gif

Nokia have very good GPS, I am sure of this! thumbup.gif
But, who wants a Symbian OS? or a MeeGo OS?
WP7.5 is acceptable.

SGS is around RM 1000 meanwhile for a new unit.
So, you must sell around half-price for your unit(1 year+).

10-minute charge to keep the Xperia S going for an hour? rclxms.gif

QUOTE
Xperia S to come with anti-stain shell and fast charge capability

There are noises starting to emerge that the upcoming Sony Xperia S will come with two neat features that the company haven’t exactly been banging the drum about. First off, the phone will come with some kind of anti-stain shell. This is not in dispute as the company mentioned this point on a Facebook post, although SE has not formally expanded on what this involves.

PocketPC.ch recently spoke to the Sony Ericsson Product Manager for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands who appears to have also confirmed the above. They said that the phone will come with a special nano coating that is not just dirt repellent but also UV Active. They also report that the Xperia S will come with a fast charging ability. Charge times will be reduced by half and a 10-minute charge is good enough to keep the phone going for an hour. We haven’t been able to verify the latter ourselves, but it seems like a nice addition if true.

That's a very nice review biggrin.gif Arc seems to score on most of the category but ... it boot and shut down is taking so long? Is it because of different OS?
Hope we won't have to w8 3min for Xperia S to boot-up =,=
March does seem like a very long time sad.gif but i guess it is quite approriate ... maybe they want to release most of the xperia lineup after announcing it in the WMC.

The thing u need to know with se is everytime they rollout new firmware, they make sure the update is worth waiting n fix most of the prob..

They focus more on uxp, n thts y u can c they dun rush with latest tech, but more on fully utilizing the hw n sw to the user..
:
But the bad thing is, new product sw is always lack sumthing, its like not finalized.. im truly satisfied with my arc after 3-4 months using it, when they rollout the update which fix most of the bugs..

But with this xperia s, i might jump to sony once again..

So, long Sony Ericsson~ Finally, the European Union has approved Sony’s acquisition of Ericsson’s stake in their smartphone enterprise. The approval was granted on January 26 and gives the company the green light to forge ahead with its Sony-only smartphone branding, design and development.

Come on ICS update ... quick!!

Added on January 28, 2012, 10:36 amHope they put this into Xperia S:

Sony 'boosts low-light picture quality' with white pixels

I doubt so, i guess Sony are now in MASS PRODUCTION for this Xperia S.

QUOTE(DarkSilver @ Jan 28 2012, 04:13 PM)
Hope this is cheap, most important here... XD!

I would prefer Black as it'll be easier to take care.
In addition, black do look more elegant.

I've a SGS II White, it looks bad.
*
Felt the same, black looks more elegant than white.
But somehow i would love to have a white one as my first ever smartphone.

This is the only Android phone that I am considering to switching to from my iPhone 4. The anti-smudge cover would be a great feature after using the stain attracting glass back of the iPhone 4.

Also 12 MP camera? Want so bad!

Looks very promising indeed biggrin.gif They may lose when the other company release new phone. Sony should take the lead when they can... like now biggrin.gif maybe they are still producing it and testing for bug or stuff. Hopefully they will release it earlier biggrin.gif
I still like the white design ... but if black is cheaper I'll get black biggrin.gif

Wonder how much the accessories are going to cost? I like the Smartwatch and wireless headset. Also, the smart tags only available in the 2nd quarter? Too long to wait.

According to that Russian review, Xperia S comes with the below:-

- Headset
- Charger
- USB cable
- HDMI cable
- 2 Smart Tags

Separate purchase of Smart Tags are only in Q2 from what I read.

I'd take the white if its overall white, to the front, like iphone or sgs2, but this one..part of front is black, doesn't look awesome.. so I prefer all black..

i too prefer it all white. it's partial white, it's like it looks good from the back, but at the front, only a bit white. usually ppl look at front not back leh.

also, erm,
i think ppl aren't with me on this one.
one of the thing i like about xperia is it's unique design. not plan iphone copy design.
i know, this doesn't look like iphone, but almost like other android phones already. if u look at other xperia phones,
the designs are quite unique. there's two version, the one like x10 (can be seen in x10 mini versions, and still preserved until the arc s),
and the one like ray (can be seen in mini 2011 versions too).
i think these two design are actually quite unique.

now, it's just plain like other smartphones. flat and the only unique design now is the transparent thing at the bottom.

i dunno i like the front black rear white design. if whole white maybe i wont like. haha. samsung amoled are just gimmicks? from what i see, the earlier sgs2 hs really ugly hue/tint. the new one still ok. but when i see the xperia active with bravia engine, even its low res, man...the graphics are so crisp!

depending on the location? phone services are cheap as well. The last time i went there almost everyone had a nice touchscreen phone and it was in pakkan kuttur. My nokia broke, lcd problem and it only cost me about rs600 to fix about rm50?, in malaysia it would have cost rm300.

How much of a difference are the price of the phones in india and malaysia?

service for most of the low ends are cheap here. high end phones have very high risk sending to simple cheap shops anywhere. i'm studying here and been wanting a new phone. example like the droid razr. when it came out in msia how much was it? around rm2099? it was around rs35000, approx rm2.2-2.4k depending on what exchange rate u get. and all electronics are expensive in india. dont know why though.

and ppl dont use low end nokia phones here. all china brand mobile only. well majority of them. bcoz majority here can't afford expensive phones. smile.gif

sorry for the off topic.

theres one problem that will arise. the lame usb port flap! it would make cable data transfer, charging, in car charging pain in the ass. why not just a mini usb port at the bottom or at least make it open.

microsim i can still accept, as long as can convert from normal sim, if can't have to buy new number, then will be more foreveralone.
irremovable battery is lame, no card slot is lame. will crush me if price drop fast..
