This phone has won my heart too after seeing its review on Youtube.

Before noticing this phone, was acgtually looking at Galaxy S2, but after this pops up, things started to change. I was wondering, why would i want to phone which has no sense of smartphone design. Sony Xperia S has far greater design than the Galaxy S2. Particularly with the illuminate bar that is transparent. Yes yes? I guess i am not the only one who gets tempted by that transparent bar.

How come their xperia arc s is the same price as m'sia?
play.com is selling white arc s for £279.99 ≈ RM 1352, that's about the price in m'sia. How come ah??

How much do our mobiles get taxed in m'sia?

Added on January 22, 2012, 9:43 pm

Yeah, samsung really didn't pay any attention to design and packaging ...
*
Sony Xperia S for teh win! =P

Anyway, does anyone noticed that this phone is a non-removable battery?

I wonder what will be the risks of getting a non-removable battery smartphone. nod.gif

my arc so far never encounter any hang.. so hopefully for xperia s too, so that it will not hav any issue for being a non removable battery phone.  smile.gif
*
In fact, when i search the risk of getting a non-removable battery smartphone, what i got is the benefits of it.
One of the highlights was, having a non-removable battery smartphone will reduce the battery waste, people will not buy another backup battery for emergency, thus lesser battery can be produced since it harms the environment.

QUOTE(TSOM @ Jan 23 2012, 01:38 PM)
No problem la .. iPhone also same what ..
I wonder if they're using micro-sim or normal sim .. (I don't mind either) ..

I just hope 3 things:
1) low price
2) better camera quality
3) battery last long !!
*
Price, i guess this will start @ RM1999. It could be RM2099 since the Xperia Arc started @ RM2099.

The camera is great i guess, since its using Exmor lens. Heck i care about its MP. 12.1 MP is overkill for me.
If camera quality is that important to us, might as well buy a proper DSLR. Better safe than sorry, nothing comes in a complete package.

Battery wise. Too bad, the specs are kept getting up and up, thus draining more battery charges. Unless end users like us are not that particular with the phone thickness, having a 2000mAh battery in 4.3" should not be a problem.

Anyway, Sony Xperia S FTW laugh.gif If i buy this phone, this would be my FIRST real phone. All these years were kept using my brother's 2nd hand phone vmad.gif ...

QUOTE(TSOM @ Jan 23 2012, 05:59 PM)
Actually I don't understand the need to remove battery. All the phones I used in the past, the only time I need to remove the battery was to insert/remove the SIM. Nothing else.
Well, I'm not a gamer, not such a heavy battery user.

Nola ... no need to be as good as DSLR, just good enough to compete with compact cameras can d ... I travel sometimes, and want to travel light. DSLR just too bulky and I'm not those 180cm caucasian height.
*
Once battery is killed, literally means the phone can say good bye. Though we all know Li-Ion battery has like 1000 cycle time, but the risk is still there.

Agree with you too, i guess i;ve just found my ideal phone. Even if its a 8MP, it would still an ideal smartphone for me. Does anyone agree with me? MP is just the size of the picture being taken, the quality crisp of a picture is determined more by the lens being used. Correct me if i am wrong.

If they could reduce the megapixel maybe that will lower the price? This phone is gonna be mid-end phone by wmc. All those quad-core biggrin.gif
*
How much can it be lowered? laugh.gif

QUOTE(TSOM @ Jan 23 2012, 08:09 PM)
Hopefully this is true .. then the price can drop further to RM 1300!!
*
1.3k for this? Chances of getting this at 1.3k is hard haha.

QUOTE(soitsuagain @ Jan 24 2012, 12:54 AM)
It is possible to drop once quad-core phones are out. Otherwise, it will stay at that range since dual core phones are now at 1.7k to 1.9k range.
*
Is this for real?
I mean, is it confirmed that the next smartphones are quad cores? hmm.gif
If it is yes, i would like to know more about the brands and models of them nod.gif
It would be mind blowing to have quad core smartphone rclxm9.gif

QUOTE(sil3ntlif3 @ Jan 24 2012, 02:46 AM)
Yea but look at the price now? It might drop and samsung flagship s2 drop to 1.7-1.8k? And they are releasing this phone after WMC which means ... better phone are coming out and mayb the s3?
Then Sony might drop price to sell more biggrin.gif Kinda hope they'll release now =,=
*
Yes it makes so much sense now on why Sony needs to commercialize their Xperia S and Ion as soon as possible before other competitors announces their upcoming smartphones.

QUOTE(mode893 @ Jan 24 2012, 04:53 PM)
Everything about Xperia S is tempting and the best thing is, it's not even Sony's flagship phone this year!
*
It is their first phone for SONY since its no longer Sony Ericsson. It could be their flagship phone =)

QUOTE(uzary @ Jan 24 2012, 05:26 PM)
not so sure, but honestly for me SIRI is totally unnecessary.. with or without it if im fine either way. tongue.gif
*
Having SIRI is good, setting up appointments have never been that easy.

QUOTE(mode893 @ Jan 24 2012, 05:31 PM)
LG has the next quad core phone in line. I do believe the hardware technology has gone ahead of the software support which simply amounts to sales gimmick.

For instance, having a quad core would mean having four 1ghz processors. More than 1ghz will take toll on battery life and would be quite exorbitant in pricing. This means it will be slower than a 1.5ghz dual core on everyday tasks which can already take multitasking really well. Would we really want that? Plus, even most of the current apps/softwares are not optimized for dual-core operation, let alone quad-core so...gimmick people.
*
I am more than happy to see Quady smartphones in the market while me myself are happily enough to use dual core smartphone. In fact, when Quady is in the market, the price of dual cores will zoooom down =)

It's gonna suck later if I buy this X S, then suddenly they announce Ion go global, ffuuu..
*
You like Ion more than S ?
I guess Ion has bigger screen and thats all right? laugh.gif

But ION has expandable memory card slot and built in 16GB. And bigger screen is always a pleasure for viewing. Xp
*
Xperia S no expandable memory card slot? No problem! laugh.gif
It makes me save even more money for not buying SD cards.

And screen size is really personal subjective. Personally i felt 4.3" is big enough, guess it looks real big when i slot it into my pocket. I reckon if the size is keep increasing, there will be towards an extent where it will not look like a smartphone anymore. Smart-tab perhaps laugh.gif

I hope this new Xperia S will not disappoint us in performance. The earlier Xperia Arc was launched with great fanfare and it was the second worst Android phone I have ever used. Even the lower Incredible S beats it flatly in so many  areas. Looking good is one thing - performance is more important
*
May i know what does it means in terms of lacking in performance?

If you do not mind =)

QUOTE(sil3ntlif3 @ Jan 26 2012, 10:35 PM)
I heard that Sony made alot of improvement not only in the Design but also the UI. biggrin.gif

Are there any references? What are the improvements that you heard? laugh.gif

and on 2.3.4 they improved the battery. and with arc s it could be much faster . and all xperia 2011 will get 4.0

my experience on xperia play. i guess its the same with arc. sony improving . they tryin to catch up samsung
*
I am imagining Sony Xperia S with ICS 4.0...

Sony 'boosts low-light picture quality' with white pixels

I doubt so, i guess Sony are now in MASS PRODUCTION for this Xperia S.

QUOTE(DarkSilver @ Jan 28 2012, 04:13 PM)
Hope this is cheap, most important here... XD!

I would prefer Black as it'll be easier to take care.
In addition, black do look more elegant.

I've a SGS II White, it looks bad.
*
Felt the same, black looks more elegant than white.
But somehow i would love to have a white one as my first ever smartphone.

If its fully white then yes, but seems like its gonna be partially white for the white ones.

that's the point.. not like we like taking battery off because it's fun, just to force off on restart..(yea i'm tech-noob like that)
memory card is veeeery convenient also.. haihh.
*
Correct, whats the point of removable battery? Its not like we are going to remove and slot it back everyday at least once right. I personally felt designers are not stupid so trust them thumbup.gif Sony's R&D might just discover the extreme LOW probability of end users to remove the battery. Maybe its time to change.

Custom rom it is always at our own risk right. They dont encourage end users to do so too btw. laugh.gif

I don't trust the designer that well.. I still see there will be times, at least once, one will be taking the battery off to force switch off. Otherwise, what? Get stuck/hang, leave it till morning next day, then have to take to service centre or something? laugh.gif Well, I dunno, correct me if i'm wrong..

Very likely I will get this as my first smartphone too, despite that I hated irremovable batt, & no card slot (one of the reason I like Ion more! >_< ..I'd trade transparent strip to card slot/removable batt any day).. but may take sometime to read reviews and study android/smartphone stuff first. smile.gif
