Which model laptop has the 128-bit GT740M? They dont mention about it in most spec sheets.

I gonna need a lappy but not yet decide which one to buy
So I have 2 questions to you all sifus :

1. i5+gtx765m VS i7+gtx760m. Which is better in terms of gaming performances?
2. How far the performance difference between GTX 760m and GTX 765m?

1. i7+gtx760m is more better terms in playing game because processor is more higher spec
2. Different between both is clock speed and benchmark result is more higher.

For me I5+GTX765m is better....

in term of gaming performance, I'll be looking for better GPU performance as the processor performance sometimes depends on the application (whether the game utilize all the cores and threads, but not all and apparently i think that i5 is just enough)

One more thing, have a lappy with adequate cooling too...bigger and higher the performance often seems to result into high heat although not always applicable, but to sum it all, get better cooling...easier to handle and hardware last longer

some games are cpu hungry but most games are gpu hungry. definitely go for i5+gtx765. CPU usually can be upgraded (if it's not soldered) but most laptops have gpu soldered so cannot change at all

gtx765 is also has 15% more performance compared to gtx760. ofcourse the 760 can be OC'ed but same as 765 it can also be OC'ed~

nice article. although i'm abit concerned as why they just rebrand 880m unlike 860m which went for maxwell architecture. probably they are going going to skip maxwell and opt for volta in coming months/years for release of 980?

but all this hype about battery saving needs to test in real life first. happens with haswell says low TDP+lesser heat dissipation turns out to be not that true (maybe not in mature phase yet) true on the lower TDP but not on the heat dissipation. I've seen people complaining here and there about the heat being produced~

755m sli is faster if it scale perfectly.

any idea that gtx 660 is still good currently?wanted to buy a good graphic card..RM600 budget

probably that 860m isn't at it's mature state? coz still new.. newer drivers with better support and optimizing are coming out. probably 860m single card is better Core is already slightly higher. but maybe for higher resolution 755m sli is better?

GTX660 for RM600 is good buy imo, but you better wait for Maxwell successor for GTX660 or just grab GTX750 Ti.

Maybe, 860M is literally a GTX750 Ti so we know what to expect, hopefully thermal performance is good.

Most of the time multi-gpu don't scale 2x the performance. Usually you only get 1.5x-1.8x of performance or worst case you'll get -ve scaling where single 755m is better than 755m Sli.

ah synchronization at lower fps between gpu izzit. Usually the -ve scaling happens when the game isn't supported by the driver's released. Over time drivers released will support the game and this is where that SLI kicks in, i've seen a few of this cases. Now the next concern is how the thermal performance between 860m and 755m sli. for laptops it's usually better to have 1 gpu only coz of the heat flow rate except higher ends laptop which also leads to bulkiness~

I think GT 755M SLI is still a little bit faster than the GTX 860M.
But GTX 860M is only using half of the power requirement of the GT 755M SLI.

Hi, need some help here. Currently testing out a Lenovo Z480 laptop that someone traded in. Comes with i5-3230M and NVIDIA 640M.

Testing under furmark, it is faster than a 740M (Average 8 frames vs 640M's 12 frames), but temperature hovers around 86-89 degree celcius vs 740M's 76-78 degree celcius.

Now, I know for a fact that the 740M uses the gimped GK208 vs the faster GK107 for the 640M, but what I need to know is if the running temp for GK107 at almost 90 degree celcious is normal.

Updated NVIDIA to the latest drivers, and retested.

1. Under just Furmark, temps are now around 85-86, which my research indicated that this is normal under Full Load.
2. With Prime 95 running at the same time, temps go up to 89-90 and held pretty much the whole half-hour that I tested.
3. Tested with room temps.

So it seems that 640M is meant to work that way.

Do you guys know how to fully utilize nvidia graphic adapter instead integrated GPU? I've set the default GPU into nvidia GPU in the nvidia control panel, setting main GPU in BIOS(which doesn't work since there's no any setting on GPU), disabling the integrated GPU (which makes the whole screen blank).

It depends also the 740 is what laptop. Cooling system/design within the laptop itself determine the the heat dissipation. But other than that you could try to re-paste the thermal on your 640 see if it is still high as that. I am running GTX 660M and usually it hovers around 80-82C before re-paste, after re-paste around 75-77C which is quite good. Also i clean the fan and the vents every 3 mnths as my place is super dusty =.= too many vehicles, restaurants and stuff~ damn
