Robocop trilogy

haha... almost forgotten about this movie! I remember I love the first one, directed by Paul Verhoeven... I still have the dvd version with his "signature" on the unrated director's cut years ago! thumbup.gif And I've only watched the 1st sequel where he fought another RoboCop I think, but never the 3rd one. But as far as I can remember the transfer of the earlier bd version of the first RoboCop was not that great... and the stopmotion looks jerky and cartoony now if compared to the smooth CGI that we have in movies these days... but nevertheless still felt authentic! nod.gif

hmm i was eager to get this one too... too bad it didnt get a full release this one, how sad! it got full star ratings on picture transfer @ blu-ray.com; a rare for a catalog title. Also my fav director g.verbinski's take on horror after comedy Mouse Hunt, later adventure film Pirates series & animation Rango! nod.gif

I did not feel there was anything wrong with the previous audio encode (Dolby True HD and PCM) so not sure why the need to move to DTS HD MA.

thru the ajar board room door at sony where i overheard one studio executive uttered "it's the right time to re-release the bluray trilogy, now that the reboot is hitting theatres soon... i am sure fans dont mind double-dipping since this one comes with packed features & a superior audio option!"

i would prolly fall under this 'dd group' category but being a price-aware consumer (aka - a cheapskate); i need to get rid of my original trilogy first then will buy the new trilogy if only the price drop massively hopefully by black friday later this year... tongue.gif

Aiya ! damn, just bought my Fast & Furious 4 Film Set Blu-ray (UK old release) - Tokyo Drift can't run after played once, loading.. then invalid disc, so sui (bad luck)  doh.gif , hopefully the other 3 discs don't have problem in future

try again some day, if still same need to buy the US version Tokyo Drift to complete my collection  sad.gif
*
what is actually wrong with the disc? funny that bluray disc has a playability issue (not related to region coding of course); usually it's a common problem with dvd format... hmm.gif maybe just a bad batch... tongue.gif

Yea.. i read that as well.. but cant help feel that its risky to buy it even if its region free, cos if it really doesnt work, amazon will not refund me.

Lucky thing also that they provided digital copies on DVDs, so i guess it doesnt have an expiry date.
*
ummm… am I the only one in the dark about digital copies? all these while i thought they're all came with expiry dates… or maybe from uk it's different because i hardly owned any blu-ray from uk so i don't know. hmm.gif

one more thing, that'll be real bad for you when you paid a premium quality in hi-definition blu-ray and you ended up satisfied with just low-def digital copies quality when region playability issue is the case. shakehead.gif unless of course you opt for a region-free blu-ray player nod.gif

This is what i read today on the FAQ on iTunes regarding digital copies.
1. There are 2 kinds
a. Physical DVD copies containing the movie + Download code
b. Download link + Download code

Apparently most Digital Copies in DVD will not expire, and you can download it to your computer as many times as you wish, PROVIDED you login with the same iTunes ID.

Download links will expire as i believe the distribution of the links and download codes is easier to pirate.

Here is more info regarding this
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1539
Yup.. i am taking the risk on "Believing" that the blu-ray i buy are Region A. I of course do my research by cross referencing with a few sites to confirm that it is Region Free or A before i make my purchase. But i will not stop feeling uneasy until i play personally test the discs.
*
oh ok... that's a good one on digital copies as I never knew there are 2 different types, thanks bro! thumbup.gif btw, for me i never really care much with digital copies except the ones i've already transferred into my iphone years ago... most of my later blu-ray with digital copies had expired & I lost count how many... tongue.gif i'd prefer the dvd copy they included as a blu-ray combo although i find it redundant smile.gif

I just read the fine print on my F&F Set. Each coupon that contains the code for Digital Copy actually has an expiry date (14/4/12) So ok la.. then i tried downloading it via iTunes.. and got an error message - "This download is only valid in UK and Ireland"

Sigh... at least all 5 BD works fine. All Digital copy discs can use as frisbee now.
*
oh is that right? to be safe just download the first thing u unwrapped the disc... unless of course it was already expired when you bought it.

haha... no, i wont use it as a frisbee; but more as a coaster! at least my guest can admire... laugh.gif

btw- can u still download from itunes if you have a uk itunes account? if can, then sign up for one! nod.gif

exactly!! as i mentioned in my earlier post i rated all digital copies quality as low-def... even dvds are mid-def and better quality than that... nod.gif well it was done so because it is meant for mobile / portable units; so file sizes are much smaller and quality is compromised. my mkv blu-ray ripped from the web looks a lot better than digital copies actually... not that i support those so called "shared" files tongue.gif

I support "shared" files in a way how shareware works. I will try it, and if i don't like it, i delete it. If i like it "enough" i will buy it. Sounds fair right? hehe
*
well at least that's how i watch new movies anyway. unlike others who are a bit "well-off" (he he...), i cant afford blind purchases and i'd only buy (to collect) my blurays if i find it worth to buy in the first place; at least for myself and so i'd never own a bluray movie that i've never watch before (except if it's a gift). more so, not all movies shown at our cinemas anyway... so a "shared" format is the one to go! nod.gif

well bro at least this better than buy a 'jack sparrow' products by donating profits to the pirate chiefs! laugh.gif

Your copy of 3-disc collector's edition dvd, is it the out-of-print US version? If yes, someone in US just mentioned, he sold his sealed copy in eBay a month ago for US$75.  Perhaps, you can sales your copy and get Blu-ray version with some extra profit.  tongue.gif
*
yup, that's the one... but unfortunately mine is not the Region 1 US version (it's a Region 3; bought at SPEEDY... and i'm unsure if it's actually 4-disc unlike 3 from the US! hmm.gif ) and it is not sealed... tongue.gif anyway, i've no intention of letting go unless someone offered me a good deal i can't refuse! biggrin.gif

one general question about 3D bd if anyone can answer: Can all 3D bluray discs (well, the ones sold in the market now; eg. from amazon, speedy etc.) playable on any 3D-capable bdp or only some titles can be played on certain brands of 3D bdp? hmm.gif

i asked this because once during promo of 3D bd players, you can only buy a certain 3D movie title if you buy that particular brand of bdp... and that title was not available in normal retail! confuse rclxub.gif
