PSP Games Coming To PlayStation Certified Devices

So far, the PlayStation Certified program hasn’t been that impressive, only offering a few PlayStation One titles with added touch controls. But the program looks to be taking the next logical step and adding more recent PSP games.


The Entertainment Software Rating Board has listed several PSP titles for “PlayStation Certified Devices”, including Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Daxter and flOw (presumably the PSP version, not the PS3 one) and a whole bunch of Pinball Heroes games based on popular SCE properties – Fat Princess, ModNation Racers, Motorstorm, Wipeout HD, High Velocity Bowling, Hot Shots Golf, PAIN and Uncharted.

If the PSP games will be available on all PlayStation Certified products, that will include Sony’s S and P tablets, the Xperia Play, the Xperia Arc and Acro in Japan and the upcoming Xperia S and Xperia ion.

Sony Tablet S and Tablet P Android 4.0 update 'this spring'

Sony has told TechRadar that it will be bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to its tablet portfolio this spring – which is the first time the company has actually named a time frame for the update.

Before, Sony would only confirm a 'coming soon' but at an event in London, a spokesperson for the company said that ICS would be hitting both the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P in the spring and at the same time.

This means that the tablets will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich around the same time as Sony's phone portfolio.

Sony also said that both tablets would be getting a new update in the near future which would bring Microsoft Office functionality but the company didn't actually dwell on what this update would entail.

Sony also showed off its PlayStation Certified gaming platform on the Tablet S and announced that it has now made it compatible with a PlayStation controller.

This means that you don't have to use the on-screen controls for the games on the PlayStation Store.

This is something that OnLive has been trialling as well and by all accounts using a physical controller with your tablet makes the gaming experience a whole lot better – as long as you have a stand for your tablet that is.

At the event, Sony was upbeat about its rather late assault on the tablet market. It reckoned that it had the biggest selling Android tablet over this period but was reticent to give out any numbers.

We disliked

The lack of storage on the 16GB version was unfortunate, and we hope that Sony can address the amount of storage on offer to people who only choose the 16GB version.

Media playback was disappointing, and like the iPad 2, anyone who wants to watch video on their Sony Tablet will need to spend hours recoding their files.

Despite the form being ideal for web browsing, the rendering problems on many web pages ruined the experience, somewhat, and using the browser was no-where near as slick as on the iPad.

I have some questions. I have been reading some reviews about this tablet and the below is the part that intrigues me.
The lack of storage (if chosen the 16GB) can be further supported using a memory card is SD card, right ?

About media playback, I am assuming the writer is talking about the default video player ? It should not be an issue if I install the following players and codec.

Web browsing experience can be significantly improve using Opera or Dolphin browser, right ?

So this means the problems mentioned about can be ironed out, right ?

Is there any advantage or extra feature offered by sony default mediaplayer?

Have a alook here. Sony is using their own customized music player instead of default Google music player. I like it, reminds me of PS3 UI.



And, for their movie player, there's xLOUD feature. Very useful to watch movies in public places. It's the same feature in our Xperia ARC.

i wonder why sony devices dont support video format suc as avi, mkv, it is a hassle to always convert the video to mp4 format.. i know we can use 3rd party app like mx player, but the feature such as make it watch into tv is still available? or the feature only available if using the default player?

Sony finally rolling out PlayStation Portable (PSP) games for Sony Tablet S. They're currently offering 3 PSP games (flOw, Qruton, Piyotama) for free; available from Japan PlayStation Store. I just downloaded from my STS yesterday.

Hopefully more high profile PSP games will come to STS soon.
