i was waiting for their gold, but needed the car urgently so i took a white.
just now i surveyed proton service centre near my house. told them i was just surveying, so they showed me their service package. first service only oil+oil filter + drain nut. the oil they use is 10-40 . i told them the service book says 10-30, they said no lah, exora usually uses 10-40. i said the listed oil is 10-30, then i asked can bring my own oil or not. they said can, but bring the ones that are available in the market, dont bring the ones that are sold by direct selling and stuff like that. so i said ok lor. but im surprised that they want to push 10-40 when its clearly stated 10-30 in the service book
you guys also kene this ?
Thats due to the fact that almost all Proton SC only stocks Petronas lube as their engine oil. Petronas Mach 5 (15w50)
Petronas Syntium 1000 (10w40)
and only a handful of SC stocks the full syn variant, the Syntium 3000.

well, according to the service manual and the owners manual, its 10-30 less u risk voiding your warranty. and since the cfe was codeveloped by lotus engineering, i dont think those guys are dumb. so, regardless i'll stick to the factory pour.
In the manual it stated "10w-30 and above", so 10w30, 10w40, 10w50, all can use. Just dont use anything lower than -30 or else your warranty will void.Added on February 16, 2012, 6:14 pm

ya, thats y im choosing 5w-30 or 10w-30.
jz wonder wheres the different btw semi synt n fully synt.
i jz know that fully synt is more last longer. but Shell engine oil had no fully synt 5w-30 available.
IMO, if you didn't rev your car much and not a track person, semi syn is sufficient. At your early stage of ownership, I recommend you to just stick back to semi since you'll be changing oil every 5,000km.jz wonder wheres the different btw semi synt n fully synt.
