hi, beginner here...thinking of starting this hobby but no idea what i should get at the first place.
*
first getting the correct tools and books would help a lot

try to find these books - http://www.elvenwork.com/book.html
i know there's some in multifilla @ balakong.

here;s my input.

Practice with normal polymer clay/ paperclay first. Single color.

- 1 x aluminium short knitting needle ( yeah...frankly this the best shapper tool I've seen for clay modeling ironically, because of the pencil like shape) @ any knitting krafting shop.
- 1 x good cutter blade @ any supermarket/stationary shop
- 1 x an oven just for clay baking (can adjust temperature) @ any supermarket / electrical shop
- 1 x roll of aluminium foil @ any supermarket normally near the place where they sell baking stuff
- 1 x of tick and sharp toothpick @ any supermarket
- 1 x clay machine (like those pan mee maker ) @ artfriend 2nd floor gardens midvalley
- 1 x some metal stainless tray to work on.
- 1 x air tight to store clays or those air tight sandwitch bags @ can get alot in giants or tesco.

Geez, you guys have mad skills here! Very, very cool. smile.gif

So, I'm wondering, what sort of clay would be best for making small charms? Pieces would probably be anywhere from 1cm-1inch. Any and all recommendation/tips would be appreciated. biggrin.gif

U looking for which type of clay?
Air Dry clay?
I clay?

There are so many types of clay available.
If u talking about I-clay, u can get from Popular bookstore or Bookfest malaysia

If u talking about paper clay, same place u can get from also.

There few art shop selling clay at Klang Valley.

1) there is a shop located at One Utama, top floor, opposite FOS
2) there is a shop located at Ikano Power Center, opposite Popular Bookstore
3) Multifilia Art shop, located at Balakong industrial area behind Petronas Oil station.
4) Friend's Art at The Gardens
5) Kinokuniya at KLCC - selling Japan brand clay but in set.

I recommended you buy Polymer clay from Taiwan if you are budgeted. (Good Quality and not so costly)
Japan is damn expensive but of course quality is v good lo.

If u are not in Klang Valley, u can buy online such as
search in google

1) Little Koh Miniature
2) Ebay - sometimes u really can find some good deals but have to be patient
