Hi all. A close friend of mine is suffering from eczema. She does not like to use the steroid-based creams due to the side-effects that come with prolonged usages. Currently she is keeping watch on what she eats and using some other cream like aloe vera cream. Is there any good methods to treat or at least suppress eczema?

I read online that some cream called TriCeram is good for eczema, but is it available in Malaysia?

I'm suffering from eczema, for my case i found out it was due to a particular brand of shampoo plus some soaps that was causing this...basically my skin is sensitive due to strong chemicals.

Sorry i can't help with any treatments or remedies, maybe you could ask your friend to try to retrace the particular period of time when he/she got it together with any change of lifestyle. If need be try to stop a particular routine to see if it helps, time consuming yes since it took me about 2 years

Try using Polytar soap bar. Soaps, lotions, creams, etc which have strong fragrance usually make the condition worse so try avoiding it.

I actually was half way thru writing a long reply but it was just so hard to get all i wanted to say in words so i just deleted all of it.

Keeping it short:
Steroidal medications is really really bad in the long run- go wikipedia some of the active ingredients and look at their side effects. Good on your friend for realizing this.

Treatment that has been most effective for me- still ongoing btw (been around 3 months and big improvement in that time) is acupuncture together with chinese herbal medicine in KL at 'The Tole' run by Master Tole, try googling it.

He and his clinic appeared in the star newspaper early this in year, january or february i think (google). Saw it then but it somehow slipped my mind, only when i had a really bad breakout a few months ago did i remember about it and went for it. (kinda like a last resort thing)

Am really glad i went but there are some downsides. One is that you have to boil and drink the medicine which is really horrible- might get used to it i guess.

Some people are afraid of needles, but they don't go deep- just feels like an ant bite at the moment of insertion.

The cost of the herbal medicine might be a bit high.

He treats many kinds of diseases so the place is almost always packed so patients usually have to wait a long time.

Considering it's been working this well for me and no awful side effects i think its damn worth it in my opinion.

Oh yeah one more thing my diet with the herbal treatment is super restricted-
easier to say what i can eat than what i cannot

most types of vegetables, grains, fruits
most types of fish
some sweeteners

and that's it.

Hopefully after 3 years of this can eat normally again.

I had skin problems like psoriasis before I started taking resveratrol. It's a powerful polyphenolic anti-oxidant ocurring naturally in plants (in particular Japanese knotweed). Great improvement on my skin. No more skin peeling and no more 'little bumps' under my facial skin. No further need for creams and lotions. Pycnogenol may also help

Do your research before you buy.

Yeah like siaoand2 said- going for a blood test is a good idea as well. Did the alcat test at pathlab where they test your blood against various foodstuf for food intolerance.

By the way its a food intolerance test, not an actual allergy test. Allergies are actually pretty rare and confused with intolerance.

Anyway that only helped me a little. Your friend might have a milder case of eczema than mine though.

Any natural food which can stop inflammation other than steroid? Bcoz whn I have flare up nothing seems to work except steroid. I had full body eczema which always keep coming back on and off which has no end.

Using steroid on my face will cause redness so I try to refrain myself from using it as much as I could. My skin usually dry and flaky and I have to keep using moisturizer.

Now I need to be careful of eating sweet food. Even eating lot of rambutan will cause me to flare up

Anyone with helpful tips is much welcome

Acupuncture with herbal medicine is working very well for me.

I go to 'The Tole' run by master Leong Hong Tole. He's very famous- appeared in The Star and Straits Times Singapore. Treats many kinds of diseases not just eczema.

Its at Menara Promet now called menara kh i think.

Google it

http://thestar.com.my/health/story.asp?fil...9057&sec=health

That's where i found out about it. People with eczema go try it and if it works go tell other people.

f*** steroids and all their f***ed up side effects.

my brother and father also had eczema, pretty bad on the legs area, also was using lots of creams and that, that's why we got into ecoparadise treatment, going there, after a few months, eczema cleared up significantly without any additional meds.

Check out this website:

http://www.fougera.com/knowledge_center/steroidpotency.asp

Dermovate is brand name for Clobetasol propionate by GSK.

A rough gauge for steroid potency lies in the prescription. If u have to apply it 3 times a day, it's a weak steroid. If u have to apply it only once a day, it's a strong steroid.
Topical steroids come in 2 forms; ointment and cream. Ointment form is more potent because it stays on the skin longer.

Topical steroids should not be used continuously for more than 2 weeks. Abuse of topical steroids lead to thin skin. Some get hypopigmented patches (like panau) on skin.

Another alternative for topical steroids is topical tacrolimus. It's comparable to mid-strength topical steroids but without the side effects of steroids. It does take a longer time for eczema to respond to tacrolimus. Another alternative is Ezzera.

If the eczema is widespread and in flare, it calls for short-term oral (prednisolone) or IV steroids (hydrocortisone). Eczema is controlled with lifelong emollient therapy.

By antibio you mean antibiotics?

What sort of cream were you prescribed?

Cured in 2 weeks?

I don't think you know what eczema actually is.

And another poster above suggested Tacrolimus-claiming it has no side effects.

Tacrolimus has lots of side effects- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tacrolimus

People keep recommending steroids and more steroids and it's really starting to piss me off.

Steroids will f*** up a person's body in so many ways, i know this because i've been there myself thanks to advice from people who don't know anything.

Google the active ingredient of the steroid you are using and check out the side effects yourself.

Also the longer a person is on steroidal medication the harder it is to get off it.

People who don't know anything really shouldn't say anything.

TS depend on which part of eczema and its severity for your friend.

I am the victim too, it is about your lifestyle

Bath: try non-foam body shampoo specialize for eczema such as Cetaphil, it is more exp, but it worth the money definitely.

Eat: avoid tree nuts, tiny prawn, and peanuts

Sleep: Don sleep late, it will further worsen for full body eczema case.

Having difficulty of sleep? take melatonin supplements. DO NOT rely on antihistamine and oral cortisteroid(those are for emergency acute eczema response)

Stop using QV, try cetaphil body shampoo, it works better for me, dry and peeling skin type.

I now never eat antihistamine and steroid, stop your herbal medicine, and one more thing, FRANCH oil also worsen the eczema.

Vaseline is very useful BUT, clean your skin every 6-8 hours and apply again.

What time you sleep normally? 1-2 am is absolutely NO, 11pm ++ must sleep d...

Environment: keep cleaning free from dust.

There is no cure for eczema, bull shit! Please do not give pipe dream to other people.

Only way to be "cured" from this is by growing out of it (means it'll go off after a certain amount of growth) or by avoiding allergens causing it.
