Another review of the G55
http://www.bestgaminglaptop.net/news/gtx-6...g55vw-vs-g53sx/

Added on May 9, 2012, 9:15 amI'm thinking of getting a G55 but taking a look at all the complaints about the customer service in the mobile computing forum, I'm getting worried.
From what I can see, if you get a good laptop, everything is rosy. But if there is a problem & you need to go to the Asus service center to get it fixed, you're screwed.

Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of getting the rm3999 G55VW-S1095V-
i7-3610QM/
4Gb ram/
1Tb/
NV GTx660m 2gb gddr5/
W7P
full hd monitor
dvd rw

As I'm working in the Bayan Lepas Area, I'm thinking of getting it from Gadjetzone. Any comments or recomendations or horror stories?
also, Any idea if the Graphics Card is gimped like the previous G53SX?
How much Ram to get 4GB or upgrade to 8GB?
Thanks.

I just came back from Gurney Plaza & managed to talked to a GadjetZone Techie there.
Currently, they have the G55, but not on display as their boss trying to push the G53 out first. Looks like we can only see it after we pay for it? grr.

So now I've got a couple of questions that I'd appreciate you guys helping out with. I'm planning on getting a non 3D G55 for work.
1. Any idea which shop to get it from? I'd prefer to view the unit first before buying, or else, I'd get it from exoticpc in the states. Also, I need to get a receipt of some sort so I can claim from my boss.
2. I believe that the onboard RAM is 1600MHz, If I were to add RAM, where can I get 1600Mhz RAM in Penang, & how much should I add? another 4Gb or another 12Gb?
3. What are the freebies that I could expect bundled with the G55? According to the Gadjetzone Techie, there were no freebies, no bag, no mouse, ect.
4. According to the Gadjetzone Techie, any upgrading of RAM or adding in a SSD to speed up the boot up would have to be done at the Asus Service Center. If so, how do they guaranty that they don't screw up the machine? Already heard many horror stories on the service center ppl fixing one problem but breaking something else.

Thanks,

Does anyone else notice that some of the information, for the quality survey is outdated by 3 years? Survey was done in 2009. (shown on pg. 5)

Gadjetzone Penang already has stock for the G55VW. However, it's not on display. You only get to see it after you pay.
Any other places have stock yet in Penang? Especially in the Bayan Lepas area? I'd prefer to have a hands on before buying.

SwissPac at BJC? I noticed that most computer shops at BJC are targeted towards the budjet segment of the market. They rarely stock high end models. Better chance at Queensbay. Is there a SwissPac at Queensbay?

Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of getting the ASUS G55VW-S1095V.
How much RAM should I get for it? top up to 8GB or 16GB? what is the max?
One of the shops mentioned that the upgrade would have to be done at the Asus Service Center that seems to be famous for breaking laptops.
Is there any shops in Penang that could upgrade the RAM at their shop instead?
Thanks,
Dbassnut

Also, don't forget to email Asus at
http://vip.asus.com/eservice/cus_suggest.aspx

I've done so but apart from the usual "we're looking into it" response, nothing much has happened before.
I like Asus & think that their machines are great but the stories I keep hearing about the service center is starting to scare me.
Hope they do something about it fast as MSI is starting to look good.

Added on May 15, 2012, 1:26 pmhmmm. MSI GE60, GT60 or Asus G55VW?

I'm more or less going to get the G55VW-S1095V but only after I get a change to see it first. Still no shops displaying the unit, sad.gif.
I'll probably add in more ram, about an additional 4GB. I believe that the existing ram is 4GB 1600Mhz SODIMM, right? If so, no point getting slower RAM.
Any shops in Penang selling the 1600Mhz RAM for the Asus G55? I need to get some sort of receipt to claim for it.
Thanks,

If you're in Penang, you can check out Gadjetzone. The tech there says they have units available but are not displaying them as they are pushing the G53SX out first.

it is the same..the default 1600mhz ram will underclock for the three 1333mhz ram..no matter what case, the higher clock ram will underclock..but why you want to add 3 more 4gb 1333mhz ram?..adding 1 4gb ram with default 4 gb ram is enough bro..8gb cukup..what do you think?

pictures of the bag..damn hard to find one..but the bag very nice and over the rm300 price range..no choice cause others below that price range cannot fit the g55

Added on May 17, 2012, 11:16 am
bro, 8gb is always better than only the default 4gb in the g55..no matter whether both of them running at 1333mhz or not smile.gif so i cant find shop selling 1600mhz ram, just use the 1333mhz ram. smile.gif

Added on May 17, 2012, 11:20 am

Hi guys,
Just talked to a tech at Gadjetzone Penang at Queensbay.
According to him, they still have 2 more units of the G55VW. However, these units were ordered from europe so no back pack is included. Price is RM3999.
The second batch of G55VW that they ordered from Taiwan would come with the backpack. However, they have no idea when this is going to be coming in.

As of Saturday, there are only 2 units left at Gadgetzone main office. I think its the one at Midlands Park, Penang. They're supposed to be the European model but only 4GB RAM. According to the tech, its the same specs as the G55VW-S1095V but I could be wrong. Also, no freebies such as bag, extra RAM ect.
I've already asked them to email me the specs but haven't gotten a reply yet. If anyone has bought one from Gadgetzone, do let us know.
Thanks.

I'm awaiting Gadgetzone's reply.
Anyone here purchased stuff from them before?
If their existing stock has better specs, I'm getting it, if not, better to wait for the 2nd batch (G55VW-S1095V) .

Just got an update from Andrew of Gadgetzone.
The 2 units that they currently have is is G55VW-S1095V model.
The current batch that they have do not come with the free backpack.
The 2nd batch however, will come with the backpack.
