Just came across this review on the G75.
http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Mobile/ASUS-G...Gaming-Goes-Ivy

Anyone have any reviews on the G55 yet?
*
there are a few owners of G55, not including two (if i recalled correctly) in LYN. So far, no review yet. But the second batch of stock is on the way.

QUOTE(macrossworks @ May 8 2012, 06:40 PM)
eh... i tot Win7 can only handle up to 3.5Gb ram ?? Anyone can explain why G7* series can use up to 16Gb ram ?
*
64bit window can basically hold more than 4gb ram.

Credit to GenTechPC for ripping apart G55VW.

The mSata Port is not easy to access.
Over on the ROG forums they said it voids your warranty as well, but obviously the hdd and ram slots don't.
*
blardy hell asus.. doh.gif

so if i want to put an SSD inside, i have to ask Asus to do it? since it'll void the warranty

Hey Arvinaaa, how big is the G55? and what backpack do you use? I'm currently looking for a backpack that fits, most probably i'll be going for a 17" laptop backpack. From NBR forum, this is the measurement for the G55

G55:
14.8" x 11.8" x 0.9"-2.0" 8.4bs with 8 cell battery

doesnt really fits the backpacks that i want, even if its a 17" backpack.

And since G55 is just slightly smaller than the G53, any G53 users can offer their opinions about backpacks as well?

bro, long time no hear from you...the g55 is big and bulky..im currently using the free asus bag..but soon will upgrade to a targus bag..i suggest you buy a 17 inch bag..coz the current bag that i use is very compact with the g55 in..17 inch bag should be perfect..you should oso buy a large bag, cause the charger is damn big and heavy..
Haha, well i've been busy. Part time work, then went outstation and just only came back to KL yesterday. Yep, i'm currently looking at only 17" backpack. I need bigger backpacks to fit my other stuff as well. But was abit worry cause i've been looking at a few backpacks. The ones that i want doesn't really go well with the dimensions I've stated above. Was wondering if its really an issue though..

the backpack i want measures:
40 x 27 x 4 cm

G55 in centimeters is
37 x 30 x 2.5 cm

im planning to buy new laptop like g55..but not too sure .Do i really need a gaming laptop?
most of time gaming (hopefully is playing diablo3) and doing peace of work (web design, programming or etc.)
how much ram are necessary? blink.gif
*
Im getting the g55 also because for work. I'm studying architecture, a strong laptop (and since its portable) will come in handy with all the heavy softwares for my course.

Im upgrading mine to 16gb max. Will find a way in the future to include a SSD in my laptop to improve the boot time.

how much is the gravis and incase bag? y not try targus or swiss
*
i'm not too keen on targus or swiss backpacks design biggrin.gif price range should be similar to targus/swiss. Around rm300? This is a problem we'll face when buying a laptop that is too big for everything else. sweat.gif

Any G53 users here that can offer their advice?

How to justify my software is running heavy or not?
Im studying software engineering.I have observed, last time my laptop running few software at same time are getting crash. Now change to SSD is getting better. rclxms.gif
*
My previous laptop couldnt stand my architectural softwares. Even after ram upgrades biggrin.gif i wasnt really familiar with laptop specs at that time. Not until i joined a few forums and start researching about them. After almost 2years of toleration with lags, crash and even overheat issues. I've decided to get something that is strong to support all my softwares.

and yes, SSD really makes a huge difference biggrin.gif biggrin.gif but asus just decide to screw us over by putting the mSATA slot deep inside the G55. Upgrading a SSD on your own is impossible without voiding the warranty. dry.gif but if your softwares can run perfectly fine on your current laptop, i dont see a reason to upgrade.

not sure my current backpack can fit or not.. to me, buying backpack is easy la.. i trust crumpler biggrin.gif i used to have a laptop backpack n it snapped on me, my netbook dropped hard on the floor together with the bag.. (note: netbook only) so i have no confidence with other brands unless those known for making bagsĀ  vmad.gif
*
Same here, i was looking at crumpler too. Then moved on to Incase and Gravis. I think they're reliable, just spent a few days reading all the reviews. Should be good enough to hold the G55. Materials they used were pretty good. Just worry about whether can fit or not only. hahaha
