160gb currently is enough to use.actually can it using the max storage?
will get void warranty or not, if i switch the hdd to ssd by own?(SATA not mSATA)
*
Replacing the Hard disk drive with SSD will not void the warranty, however adding/upgrading the mSata will void ur laptop warranty. Though, it is already a hassle ripping apart most of the screws.

Hey Arvinaaa, how big is the G55? and what backpack do you use? I'm currently looking for a backpack that fits, most probably i'll be going for a 17" laptop backpack. From NBR forum, this is the measurement for the G55

G55:
14.8" x 11.8" x 0.9"-2.0" 8.4bs with 8 cell battery

doesnt really fits the backpacks that i want, even if its a 17" backpack.

And since G55 is just slightly smaller than the G53, any G53 users can offer their opinions about backpacks as well?
*
The default ROG backpack allows me to fit my G53 and my office Vostro 13 at once. Not issue.

How to justify my software is running heavy or not?
Im studying software engineering.I have observed, last time my laptop running few software at same time are getting crash. Now change to SSD is getting better. rclxms.gif
*
Ur usage not even heavy. Unless ur running multiple simulators simultaneously. 8GB of ram is sufficient already unless ur hitting 70-80% Physical Memory with 8GB of RAM. SSD is a better investment, though i'm still allocating budget to swap both 5400rpm HDD for SSD in my G53SX. Already given my M4 SSD to my desktop as boot and development drive solely.

how much it costs you to swap both to ssd??

Added on May 14, 2012, 9:14 pmthe g55 has a set of babies games..like solitare and stuff that are free TRIAL for 1 hour each game..this are not the games that come with windows 7..they are some special games by a seperate provider..useless and safe to uninstall..just did it just now smile.gif
*
I highlighted I am allocating budget to swap both of the 5400 rpm hdd to SSD. At the meantime observe the SSD market for now. Crucial m4 already costed me rm5xx previously.

QUOTE(Alexdino @ May 14 2012, 10:18 PM)
i think is 1300mhz only... for none 3d version, not sure about 3d version.
*
G53SX comes with DDR3 1333 ram default. Normally CPU-z , u'll find it listed as PC10600 or PC10700 something like that , would refer to DDR3 1333.

It wasn't meant for 17.3" laptop.ROG backpack
It only supports up to 15.4". Though i prefer to get a Alienware Orion Backpack.

Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of getting the ASUS G55VW-S1095V.
How much RAM should I get for it? top up to 8GB or 16GB? what is the max?
One of the shops mentioned that the upgrade would have to be done at the Asus Service Center that seems to be famous for breaking laptops.
Is there any shops in Penang that could upgrade the RAM at their shop instead?
Thanks,
Dbassnut
*
8GB is more than enough, asus has design the back to allow u to upgrade the ram urself.

Any brand will do honestly. They are all similar anyway.
*
Not quite, some will have different timing. When u have different timing between the default ram and added ram, if it couldn't really match up, then u'll get BSOD and other issues.

QUOTE(jujx @ May 15 2012, 12:19 PM)
I see, thanks a lot. Now everything makes more sense
*
Just ask the other G55VW users what is the default ram, DDR3 1333 or DDR1600? and the timing.
G53SX default ram is Samsung DDR1333 timing 9-9-9-24.

For those who mixes DDR3 1333 and DDR3 1600, ur RAM will run at DDR3 1333 speed and ur windows experience index score will drop slightly.

Only 1 Full Size Drive. The mSata port needs thorough diassembly which would result in warranty voided.

but i consider with G75VW-DS71
itis better?
*
G75VW is overkill with ur usage, Considering video editing software, mostly will rely on CPU more than GPU. Video conversion will speed up IF it utilize the GPU CUDA/DirectCompute. I would suggest go with a cheaper laptop with Core i7 QM + GT630M. Save ur extra cash for SSD + additional rams.

N Series played diablo 3 well with its resolution.

if could invest in ssd..i could better go for ZENBOOK? rclxub.gif
sorry if could bother...need suggestion @_@ probably grap tonite..
*
As highlighted proves G Series isn't ur kind of laptop, u'll be better off with N Series which they provide ur a external subwoofer.
FHD is only a Eye-candy to be frank. Most videos looks better in 720p instead of 1080p. Not many people can tell the main difference, between the two resolution.
Zenbook is for pure portability but the performance isn't top notch.

To G55VW-S1095V owners,

When you first start up your G55VW-S1095V, do you have to wait for all the driver and programs to install before you can use? Or everything is ready to use?

I'm asking because my Toshiba Qosmio when first start up need to wait for them to install everything like every time you formating your laptop but my G55VW-S1095V can be use straight away when i first start up.

Thanks.
*
Its all pre-installed and just takes time for first time initialization.

The is not best brand/model SSD. Unless ur asking about best performance or reliability.

The default user name is G55VW?
*
Default user name will be input by u. If it is already bootup as display up, feel free google "sysprep".

bcos i heard from somebody saying that the graphic card is not switchable (both automatic or manual switching).i feel tat it is reli impossible for not allowing users to switch it

No, there is not switchable graphic feature. BIOS doesn't allow Intel 4000 enabled.

nice, is the default graphic card soldered in the motherboard?
*
No, G73/53 doesn't have their graphic soldered.
G74 and G55 yes, but G75 GTX 660M is not soldered as G75 has 2 variation of graphic card to choose from GTX 660M/670M.

Fan speed issue so far. G73JH might be able to support HD7970M which smokes GTX660M to dust.

the n56 is good bro..just that it is slightly lower than the g55 in terms of power..thats all..if you need a laptop by this weekend, 99.99% percent you cant get by this week ,because so many people ordered(ykgen, girugaga, etc etc etc etc etc) looks like you have to get the n56..but, the n56 os NOT full hd, it is only 1366x768 display..

if you want to ask the shop guy to install the software you mentioned abouve..i would suggest you to be with the shop guy while he is opening your laptop for the first time..check whether the windows is 'first time startup' process or not..if yes, you can enter your username and time zone right at the shop..after the first time startup, then the shop guy can install the softwares, wont be a problem....IF YOU R NOT THERE WHILE HE INSTALL THE SOFTWARE, you might not know how many times he turned on your laptop, or what he is using for..so i suggest you be there so you can set the windows first time startup process.

actually..installing mozilla firefox and adobe flash player is quite easy..you can try a browser called GOOGLE CHROME.IT IS THE fastest and simplest browser in the world..try it. as for the powerpoint, you need to purchase an original copy of microsoft office for it( original with key), if not you can install pirated version( like me tongue.gif), most probably the shop guy will install pirated version for you.

thats all for now..if any question, post here smile.gif

hopefully..you guys have been waiting for a longtime already..it is time.!!!

I'm sure that not wise to promote piracy, btw the windows 7 came with ms office starter already. It doesn't support Powerpoint but u can download open source office software known as Open Office. Its better than u going for open source than pirate it.

he says that :'Yes, some of the right side is closed intentionally. Nothing to worry about.'

so according to him..it is not a fault..it is closed intentionally..most probably for the battery life
