Guys, I need user opinions and experience. I was thinking of spending around RM700-900 on an IEM. Lately however I find myself less and less bringing my IEM out with me. Not to go jogging, going out by myself, none. As a result I'm looking at headphones now. But I will go out with headphone though. It's just that I find IEMs a bit too isolating sometimes and maybe that's why I don't go out with them as much.
For that price range, will a headphone perform better than an equivalently priced IEM? I'm looking at people who have tried/owned both IEM and headphone at that price. The only decent headphone I ever have is the Grado SR60i, and I don't have anything comparable in price to it. Exclude overpriced IEMs and headphones please. I'm talking real music pumpers. Consider also these things: -I listen to primarily rock and metal of many different kinds. Also piano and cellos, and rarely, orchestral music. -Will be using laptop or a small portable player (like Sansas or Cubes or Hippos). -Warm sound, goes deep into bass, fairly ear massaging bass. Don't mind recessed mids by a bit, but quite dislike sibilance. I am really still trying to find something with treble like the Shroom EB (I miss that IEM). If possible the headphone will have sparkle but not a very offensive high-mids elevation (like the Grado) -If however someone would recommend an IEM that is the same as that, I welcome it. Preferably headphone though. -Oh and on-ear or over-ear, doesn't matter. But I preer no leakage, so a closed design is priority. -Look 'good enough' to walk outside with. lets say on my history, yo know i had the ortofon eq7, price goes more than my current dt770/250, but still i go for dt770, why? no need portability, and sq wise is better than of eq7. i think for the same price level or somewhere around there, headphones will perform better, but iem will give u better portability

The reason with IEMs is that, everytime someone wants to talk to me, or that I have to answer the phone or whatever, I'd have to take them out. They're a bit of a b***h when trying to put back in. |
