Also when there are too many background tasks going on the pen will have a slight delay.

Not sure if Headamp Pico would work LOD with the GN. iPod Classic is one of the best music player in terms of audio quality. If the GNex can come any close to it, needless to say it has performed pretty darn well. have you tried playing FLAC or APE files?
