Erm..nope...generally these big scorps are a lil slow...but they can get fast if they want too...they are more reluctant to sting if compared to the smaller barkscorpions...they are a lil bit cannibalistic though...overall...they are ok for beginners...sweet. Heterometrus and Pandinus spp will rather pinch u more than sting u unless u really piss them off and they really dun wanna take it anymore...

NOTE : ALL SCORPIONS WILL STING IF THEY FEEL THREATENED...EVEN AT THEIR OWNERS AS WELL...THATS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT RECOGNIZE YOU EVEN AFTER 4 YEARS WITH YOU...BEST THING IS TO KEEP YOUR HANDS WHERE THEY BELONG...CURIOSITY KILLS THE CAT...

QUOTE(Jamien @ Apr 10 2008, 08:53 PM)
I think emps are a lil more fierce than afs right? When i bought my afs back then, i actually wanted to buy emp cuz its said to be more tame or at least not as vicious. When I went there, the person demonstrated to me that emps are more likely to strike than afs so i ended up with an afs.
*

Emps and AFS have large pedipalps and pinch hard on their preys, they use this to pin their prey down and feed. Scorpions that have more slender pinchers, have fatter tails that pack venom potent enough to disable the prey quickly, these guys can be considered trigger happy and will strike if they are under threat. You'll be amazed to see how fast and nimble they are!

There are many ways you can agitate a scorpion that is known to use their pincher rather than stinging to strike (and the person who demonstrated to you hit the right spot). From what little experience I have so far, Emps are shy scorpions prefer to flee when threatened. They do not come running at you with telson raised ready to peck. Wouldn't want to push them too far tho. smile.gif Emps are just gorgeous.

That said, I'd rather leave handling scorpions(or any other venomous critter) to those who do it on youtube. Don't think the risk is worth taking.

You'll also need to get hold of some pinhead crickets, these guys love pinheads over diced mealworms.

1inch++ includes the the tail(and this will curl up). So yeah, they're small and will really be intimidated by large prey items.

I made friends with a LFS owner near my house, and he doesn't seem to mind me picking my own cricks. About ants, any surefire way to stop them even before they start their food hunting frenzy? Are there any methods you guys use to store your inverts safe from them?

Balthasar, thanks for the text the other night. It's right in what you said. You're guiding me a lot and I appreciate it man!

Haha...no props...after all who else gonna take over after i retire lol laugh.gif

Pinheads are hard to find...not all shops sell them or wannna sell them coz NOBODY buys them...

Ants problem...well u can try wiping them out before they wipe u out lol.
2 options that i was considering...
-Play defensive
-Scorched earth

Play defensive, kinda make u lazy...take a big container, fill it with water and put a lil elevation higher than ur water level so tat ur scorp tub dun float around but rather sit there...like an island...works two ways by keepin the ants away and ur scorpions in if it shud escape.

Scorched earth as in an all out offensive...go hardware shop and ask ah soh, buy ant poison tat is sold in powder form...1 satchet will do...Its my kind of chemical warefare lol...pour into a small shallow plate and place it where u see a lot of red ants movement...if can, put it on their pathway and to make it even more effective, kill a cricket or any bug first and pour the poison on it...so the ants will for sure come in contact with it...the rest will be history...

NOTE: DUN USE SUGAR COZ SUGAR WILL ATTRACT BLACK ANTS MORE THAN THE REDS...THE REDS ARE THE ONES THAT GO AFTER UR SCORPS

Well second way is not very environtment frenly but it does give u a great feeling of vengeance nod.gif
