may i know the age of your bh? as I wonder is the drop due to age or eco system issues?
*
9 years. I think due to external factors. El nino, haze+moonsoon lasted few months in October 2015-February 2016. That time alot of baby dies and everyone drop.

the road is never smooth.. only see the price going up last year... now maybe drop? I heard some starting drop already.
*
It will drop. But i think still above rm2500 for ab. Only Malaysia got banned. Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam arent. Unless Indonesia got banned, it will be major drop. We only accounted for 20% world supply.

Do you guys think that is  better to sell BN with feathers, rather than processing it to a Edible BN?
*
Raw and processed nest 2 different field. Processing is all about cost and skill. Of course need to find market too.

QUOTE(West Wing @ Jul 29 2017, 09:51 AM)
Dont build one, buy one to save the industry as there are too many Birdhouses with too little new fledged birds to share as too many greedy BH ownners now who care not the future but see only profit now; myopic I say! Create more breeders to share new hatchlings to spread more new birds ; a win win parnership between farmers and also Men n Swiftlets.

BHs at estates have better gain of birds but shall lose most to predators and thieves.  Town ones, too many harversters n birds migrate.
*
After prices going up over a year ago. Very less people willing to breed. It is about how fast you harvest now. Cant blame them really. If full breed, can only harvest 3-4 times a year. And cream and yellow color nest, buyer start lowball and quotation price is based on more white color nests.

QUOTE(gerald7 @ Aug 11 2017, 08:26 AM)
I completed my BH when the price drop to its lowest, so I didnt miss the good days so to speak. From what I hear, all those BH with thousands of nests all recently have a very significant drop of nests. Almost all I heard around 50% or more. And always when asked, its due to over harvesting during the heydays and probably due to lack of maintenance when the price dropped.

Fully agree that killing chick and destroying eggs is a bad practice that should be stopped!
*
This is true from late 2015 until early 2017. Within this period there is 2 chain event (haze and el nino) that reduce all the coastal area bird population. From kuching until KK, all coastal area suffer heavy drop. Throw egg group at least 60%. Breeder group about 40%. But then area like kanowit and kapit are safe since not coastal area. Sad to say, there is not much future for bird house in coastal area. The future is deep jungle.

I think nobody kill the chick. Only throw the egg. I told them if they want throw, just take the middle cup. Leave the corners to breed. That way, is alot more sustainable compared to full throw.

Break into BH is alot more rewarding for thieves than breaking in goldshop, hp shop. I see some starting to do high voltage wire around their BH.

because not enough supply ?

Can say like that. China remove 1 child policy. And many legal company coming out and all are giants. Consumer dare to eat unlike last time market full of chemical goods. All these years indonesia trying hard to win back consumer confidence and it work well until now. We have to thanks them otherwise we still stuck with sub 2k raw. Plus existing bird house population is not increasing due to over harvest and climate change.
