Hi, I am michaelcsc from Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and I am seeking for assistance. My mercedes has been through thick and thin. I only send my car to authorized service center. I went all out paying for unnecessary damages:

The matter has been referred to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia(Mr. Amin Ott) via Hap Seng Star Sdn Bhd but my appeal was rejected.I was really puzzled and very dissatisfied as to why my 3 and a half years old C200 (Only done 85000 Kilometers) would require such a major repairs. I could only conclude that either the Mercedes Benz quality is lousy or there was negligence on the part of Hap Seng Star. Subsequently, I have forwarded my issue to the regional office to theInternational Mercedes Benz customer service, but they have not been replying me. Now, whom do I seek for assistance? How do I forward my issue to the Headquarters? Below is the summary of services done (Read this to see how bad Mercedes is!):

1.
QUOTE
13-02-2008 New car delivered

2.
QUOTE
27-05-2010 Warranty works
a. Roughly about 2 months before the normal service, the engine oil indicator light was on; I need to top-up 2 liters’ of engine oil.
b. Send to Hap Seng Star for replacement of ‘worn oil seal’; which caused internal engine oil leakage.

3.
QUOTE
22-10-2010 Normal Service
a. I complained to the service supervisor, Ah Meng(I think) that the engine oil still dropped but the engine oil indicator light did not light up. I did top-up with 1 liter of engine about 2 months before the normal service.
b. Ah Meng replied that he did ask the technician to check but found nothing abnormal. It is ok, he said

4.
QUOTE
24-02-2011 Normal Service
a. I complained to the service supervisor, Hong( I think) on the same problem but this time round the engine oil indicator light was on ! I did the top-up on engine oil.
b. Hong gave similar answer but advised me that the next time the indicator light appear, don’t top-up but immediately send the car for inspection.

5.
QUOTE
11-07-2011
a. Engine oil indicator light appeared, send car for inspection as per 3.a advice above.
b. Mr See mentioned that the technician could not find anything abnormal but advised me to return car for thorough check after the car clocked 200-300 km and below 1000km.

6.
QUOTE
18-07-2011
a. Send car for checking as per advice 4.b above.
b. Was told the ‘internal engine oil leak’ was cause by valve seal. In additional the camshaft sprocket was worn-off (photo attached) and therefore faulty.
c. Major repair was done.
user posted image

7.
QUOTE
21-09-2011
a. Another repair was done on to replace faulty ignition control unit/key.

8.
QUOTE
21-11-2011
a. Just after 3 months, the engine oil indicator light was on again!
b. I had to top-up 2 liters of engine oil (investigation still pending)
Questions:
a. The ‘internal engine oil leak’ investigation was not done thoroughly during the repair done on 27-05-2010 as the problem still persist and settled much later despite my complains. Negligence on the part of Hap Seng Star?
b. The major repair work to replace the ‘worn oil seal’ done on 27-05-2010 was not done properly resulting the camshaft to worn-off subsequently. Again, negligence?
c. If none of the above is true, my only conclusion is Mercedes-Benz produces lousy parts.
d. Am I just unfortunate?

As mentioned, my appeal has been rejected by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, it leave me no choice but to initiate other options. Now, whom do I seek for assistance? How do I forward my issue to the Headquarters?

Conclusion: Internal oil leak problem still exist since the warranty service. This internal oil leak, the ignition control and the camshaft problem reflects the poor engineering and workmanship of Mercedes Benz. Who expects to get these poor parts and engineering from a renown car manufacturing company, such as Mercedes-Bens? This car is no longer safe for me and my family..

U got a lemon, and the technicians at Benz SC are only trained to perform regular maintenance.

U need to get the lemon sorted out elsewhere.

Look for Adelle Teoh customercare_my@daimler.com

C&C Mutiara Damansara ignored my complaints and put the blame on me, I sent a letter to Mercedes Benz Malaysia to voice my disappointment. At the end, problem solved.

Added on November 22, 2011, 10:17 pmBy the way, your car warranty should be already expired so it is really no point sending back to authorized dealer for maintenance or to service.

I have no choice because my car still under warranty, a simple oil change cost me RM1200 plus tax where DTM Kota Damansara did it for RM450.

servicing the car at authorized service center really that important for expensive cars??..

IMO, authorized service center does not mean they are good/specialized.... sometimes even worse as they do employ trainee and interns as mechanics....

check with the service center what kind of engine oil they put into ur engine... i suspect bad workmanship as well... engine oil level decreasing means something is wrong, and they still can say its normal... even with or without visible leak, it is not suppose to happen...

You need to complain to the consumer's tribunal. Some people got their car changed. Complain here no use.

that means you service your car like every 12,000km?

I second this. Last time when to service my old KIA Sephia at NAZA...f**k up mechanic...didn't screw my engine oil cap properly and cause my car to leak engine oil...somemore i was overseas at that time....Proton so called "Platinum Service Centre" also ran by a bunch of incompetent fools....basically, in Malaysia, all the SC sucks. I went outside to service my Proton Savvy much better. Cheaper and fixed my problems.

The only reasons going back to authorized SC is to keep your warranty going, otherwise, i'll ask them to fly kite already.

Since warranty had expired, no point sending back to SC as mentioned by above forumers. SC normally take cheap labour to do normal stuff like change engine oil sorta things only coz new car dun normally need major service. So for ur case, its indeed something major happening, and im sure those technicians in SC are amateurs to handle it.

There are authorized BMW and Merz centres which can hep u better on this. But for continental cars, alwis be prepared with all the heavy cash.

Nothing is perfect. Human errors. Unless the whole is fully automated then different story lo There bound to be lemons in all car manufacturers worldwide. The only difference is the ratio of lemons produced.

I have seen a huge merc benz specialist workshop somewhere along ldp near kelana jaya there if not mistaken. If ur coming from sunway it will be on ur left. I see alot of merc owners send their cars thr. Prolly cheaper than sc. Maybe u can try there.

That one at Tmn Mayang SS25.

Definately cheaper than SC.

One of the reason the biz there so good is bcos the owner's brother operates a Kedai Potong. When the workshop need used parts, the brother can send over. Yes, many Benz & BMW owners maintained their rides with used parts.

Thanks guys, will definitely look into these. Planning to contact both the CBT and Tribunal next week after my final engine oil replacement.

Added on November 24, 2011, 11:44 pmmy main concern here is not really about whether the service center is authorized. It's who and how do I get my issue forwarded to the proper department in charge to seek some sort of compensation.
