depends on users lor.. more experienced users will ask for better control like quick access to more settings, more customization, more info at a glance, etc...
i wouldn't give beginners a D300 or D700... all the switches with cryptic alphabets gonna confused them....
for me... the lower quality main LCD n the lack of the mono LCD control panel is a deal breaker in the D3100 n D5100...
When I was new, my first DSLR is a D90 and I still prefer D300's layout.

How much is your total damage for the whole set?
I still find myself struggling with flashgun especially at places with high ceiling. TTL doesn't work so effective for me or rather I'm not sure how to control it yet?

FlexTT5 x3, 1 AC3... total RM2000+

heartache sobs sobs... Still haven't got the chance to use it in field yet to.

Reminds what I saw the other day... 2 photog team with SB600 (or a speedlight similar size), with entry/semi pro body with very small lens... i'm guessing its the 18-55 because he's standing very close in LOL.

Some church allows while some not. Check with the church management before starting to shoot, best is a day before so you could plan your shooting especially when no flash can be used. Surround the area and take note on the lighting setup.
Yeah, church photography is always a challenge when you're not allowed to use flash. Else is prime lens + fast lens, and also lighting is flat if its those building church rather than the conventional ones.

This lady use a kit lens... thats the hebat part.

And i believe the camera model she use cost less than what she charge on the couple.

LOL, hebat! 18-55... and 70-300... that one is one heck of slow lens indoors without flash.
