Hi, I also recently developed the interest to play TT seriously and in the market to look for a serious blade that is suited to my budget and playing style. After doing extensive research I discovered that there are two varieties of blade, it's either 5 or 7 plies. On top of that, there's the traditional all wood plies or the current wood and carbon combo.

I have decided to actually settle for a Stiga Carbo 7.6 which is a combo blade.

I hope we could perhaps continue this discussion further and I am happy to give my opinion on the matter.

There are blades that has plies other than 5 or 7. Just to let you know.

Stiga blades are somewhat decent in quality but you might want to sandpaper your handle when you get it as they tend to be a lot rougher. Unless you are a chopper, any offensive blade would do the trick generally. You'll actually have more range of strokes with an offensive blade than control-oriented blade.

Let's not looking into the number of plies 5 or 7. In general, there are 3 types of blades if you are not using the pimple rubble (shakehand or penhold); Defensive blade, All round blade and Offensive blade. I have 3 of them.

Defensive blade - The re-bounce from the blade is slower and better absorb the power when your opponent is creating forehand spin.
All round blade - This is a balance blade between offensive and defensive. Slightly harder than defensive blade but softer than offensive blade.
Offensive blade - The is a very fast blade and it is also very hard. Hard blades generally cannot generate huge amount of spin. But the power it generates is tremendous. Of course, this blade is not good in absorbing the power from your opponent.

Also, there are also All wood blades, carbon blades, composite carbon blades and etc. Carbon blades are generally more expensive but most expensive of all is the all wood Hinoki blade.

You can read here about choosing your blades.
http://www.allabouttabletennis.com/table-tennis-blade.html

I have YinHe V13 which is an AllRound blade and YinHe V2, an Offensive+ blade.

Not exactly accurate. Offensive blades are harder for beginners to produce good spin. Same goes with absorbing power. It's all about your own hand controlling the blade.

Agreed. Suitable for experts but not for beginners. But once the beginner gradually progresses, they will be more capable to use their own hand with acquired skills to better control the Offensive blade.

Hey people I'm a new TT player, play since standard 3 but quit lolz.
School has ping pong club and table inside boarding house, and I've decided it's pretty fun, I'd like to get a decent premade/custom bat. I'm more of an all round/defensive player. Can anyone recommend me Premade/Custom bats and where to buy them? I live around KLCC area so idk where shops are. Please tell me a few shops! Ty!

A colleague of mine mentioned that there's a shop in main part of Ampang that sells sports equipment including a selection of blades and rubber. You feel like traveling a little further to checkout equipments go to tenryu (subang), q-sports (petaling jaya), PJ Union (paramount, PJ) or amcorp mall

Good way of making a decision, I walked into PJ union last Saturday and got myself a Donic Epox Carbotec with Donic Liga forehand and Baxter backhand. Can't wait to play it later this evening wink.gif

Pertama Complex is not to far away from Ampang Park. You should also check out Lucky Sports Trading. Opened by ex-national player Tay Kee.

Lucky Sports Trading

You can't have mat rempits around when the roads are filled with many cars, right? Take LRT to go Pertama Complex. Lucky Sports Trading has plenty of choices. Only sells table tennis equipment.
