The defination of freeriding is when you go FRIM, make an entry like a boss from the main gate without paying... Now that takes some serious balls.
HAhaha....that one dont need balls...just wake up early...come from Sg Buloh before 8am....can get free hahah...but now I dunno la...they say entry fee going to increase at FRIM sit?

Demo before buying
Do bicycles in MY have demo days? ie like golf equipment whenever they launch new stuffs hmm.gif ? I dont think so right? knowing us Malaysians we ll probably try to sapu the rig halfway through the trail ...hahahah...

From a consumer pov I just dont get it...by right the more expansive the stuff...the more you ll need to test it first..ie: Cars, Golf clubs, etc....cause you ll be making a significant amount of investment on it...and testing on the road is not good enough right? But such is our plight here...because we tend to just splurge on what we impulsively want...shops are able to sell it without allowing actual demo...on the flipside...its not helped by consumer who will abuse it if the facility is there....heheh

ish. dont buy la. rugi saja. just get a proper DH rig terus. if wanna do FR might as well get a FR / XC combo. rather than a DH / FR.
*
Is there such a bike? If XC Trail ok la ...but XC/FR?? means its light enough for XC but tough enough for free riding...waaa sure mahal...

Maybe you re referring to Cannondale Jekyll or Scott Genius sit?

The buying power for us is not as high as those in US/Europe. They make demo demo in the end no one buy.

Then there is also the mentality of malaysian  hmm.gif

Nowaways bike shops dont even let you test on the road. Too many con/stolen cases.  doh.gif
*
Yeah la...thats why...its too alien to Malaysians that they go crazy and abuse it once they get it...

if your theory is right... why do i get rejected for asking to test drive the 458 italia at naza mall... is that not expensive enough?

they will have demo when the bicycle industry is a 10 billion dollar biznes... meaning it ain't gonna happen...

realistically, there is just no reasons to run demos... just put on some fantastic videos of the demo'ed model of MTB stunt jumping and some famous pros doing crazy tricks and some videos for roadies of some grand tour champion pecuting up some steep hills and we are sold for good... not even our wives will be able to change our minds...

doesn't this make you want to buy a s-works tarmac sl3?
Either you re Singaporean or you work at KS cycles.... laugh.gif
By the way...that shop...is KS cycle...u have it both here and in Spore...so what?

It aint gonna happen? I think it does happen...only not in Malaysia ...
Even Specialized also allow you to try la...but just on the road...
Am just saying as it gets more competitive it should benefit consumer...so if you can demo ok what ...but if you like to buy first and regret later ... by all means

what happen to the mosquito infested RRIM nowadays.. can that place still be ridden?

mind me ... i no longer contain much liking or enthusiasm for bone shaking rides... but that is where we use to ride way back.. from tropicana golf club tunnel to the terminal 1 roundabout then along the road to the entrance of RRIM then from there it s a race with the mosquitoes...
*
You should ride there..soon I think it ll be off limits ...you dont want mosquitoes? FRIM la..if not dont ride ...stay at home

i ain't a singaporean and i don't work at KS cycles if there is ever one.. there is a KHCycle and a KSH though...

i was saying it won't happen in malaysia until the cycling biz is a 10b industry... not worldwide...of course it;s OK from a consumer point of view for demo... the manufacturers might not see it like that in a place where there isn't that big a market..

in malaysia, competitiveness means price war... which explains the like of the taiwan brands flooding into the market nowadays.. ask any of the shops holding known bike brands in the biz and i trust they will give you the full blown cursing  sad.gif

i don't regret buying my bikes.. just sometimes regret getting the wrong size or something isn't quite what you expect it to be cos you are never allowed to ride what you want to try... i think if there is something that needs changing that badly... i will take test rides over brand demos...

i don't hate mosquitoes... they are the main motivation to outclimb and outride them... just don't want to rattle my joints lose before i retire...
just send to shop and use your own grease instead of letting them use those horrible lithium grease..
notworthy.gif KH Cycle I mean notworthy.gif u da man....

Prize war? and how is that bad for consumer? ok la u might not be from Spore and you know KHCycle...but u sure sound like u own a bikeshop ...or at least sayang the bikeshop so much ...well nothing wrong with that...but why will any bike shop give u a full blown cursing again?

Test ride and demos? emmmm hmm.gif how different are they? So u do think getting to test it first is good...wokeh

As they say it here...u must be one powah rider to outride those mozies biggrin.gif

why i'm da man.. i am already a man... was, is, and will still be in the near future... hard to say for the far future if i decide to ride off road again..

price war... u know how that goes right

first, reputable entry level and lower end brand bikes get hit by this flood of taiwanese bikes (not that reputable brands are not made in taiwan, but still nike is nike whether it is made in the USA or china if you get my drift) and this will attract most of the people who just got into cycling and don't want to spend too much

advanced enthusiast will rarely look at sub 1.5k bikes with vbrakes unless it is bought for their GFs, i ain't discriminating.. but there is a certain scrooge in all of us...

:- outcome, bike shops lose interest in entry level bikes because they can never lower them enough to compete

on the other hand, rich kids continue buying high end stuff and this taiwanese brands are incapable of competing in the high end arena... and who has the money wants an XDS with SRAM XX riding on Red Metals rite (not against XDS here, just an example)? unless it is so cheap you can chuck out the frame and buy a nice one and still end up paying less

:- outcome, bike shops will start dropping entry level bikes and start carrying high end stuff and most prolly they have higher margin in high end stuff

:- final outcome for us poor souls who are slaving our asses every day so we can put in a ride on the weekends to find our furry bunnies biting our rubber and dog pissing on our 72 point engagement hubs.. we end up with bike shops selling tons of shit that we can never afford or we end up with huge huge credit deficits...

for me this is what happened for the past 10 years or so... god, i can afford a fairly nice bike last time just saving my lunch money... now that i am working, i find that i can't even afford a nice tube of grease or replace the spoke on a nice set of wheels... it ain't inflation, trust me.

and don't tell me this is how it works...and to go work harder... it ain't reality as well... it's a nightmare

they just brought along their road concepts to mtb... don't think it works...

is that an integrated seatpost? why would you want that on a mtb if you constantly adjust seatpost height... and i doubt aero front end is of any help

most prolly bb30 bb as well.. are they well accepted on MTB community?
*
Probably the integrated seatpost is design for those WC XC races...those guys hardly adjust the seatpost during races....the racing saddle also narrower...so they shift back and forth easier ...

I heard Atherthons are signing for Polygon...

Heheheh...ok ok ...gotta admit that joke was lame ...heheh

But mind you the best XC rider in SEA are suing Polygon ...

One of Pink Bike's Prediction for 2012...Sorry to lazy to sanitize ...hehehe

Less is More: More riders will use bikes with less travel

While I can't argue that a downhill bike lets you get away with mistakes and line choices that would spank you hard on a shorter travel bike, there is something to be said for mastering that same terrain on smaller rig. More and more riders who would have previously spent most or all of their saddle time on a downhill bike are discovering how much fun they can have on a shorter travel bike, but why? Part of if is a fundamental change in how many riders look at their riding.

A trail bike, or whatever you want to call it, means that you get more saddle time instead of sitting on a lift or in the back of a truck. Don't take me the wrong way, racing and riding big bikes with buddies will never get old, but there is no way that those long travel beasts can give you the same bang for your buck when talking about amount of time spent on singletrack.

Manufacturers are also waking up to the idea, with more and more designing trail bikes that agressive riders can feel comfortable on. The idea of such a bike is far from new, but we all win when big players like Specialized put out bikes like their 145mm travel Stumpjumper FSR Expert EVO, a mid travel machine with geo that allows you to charge hard. Many brands, both big and small, are designing similar bikes that allow a skilled rider to work the terrain more, with many discovering that they are actually faster in a great deal of places on their shorter travel bike.

But here's the clincher: these progressive bikes are showing riders that it isn't about outright speed, but rather outright shits and giggles. And when are you having the most fun? When your bike is sliding around, loose and spraying dirt behind you, a point that is much easier to reach on a mid travel trail bike than on a full fledged DH sled.

Slack and low geometry combined with short stems, suspension technology that lets you have your cake and eat it as well, and dropper posts that allow you to squeeze every last ounce of flow out of the trail are all factors that will ensure that these evolved trail bikes will continue to gain in popularity. - Mike Levy
