QUOTE(plush @ Oct 27 2012, 12:05 AM) i believe for people who are not watch collectors and hobbyist cant really see the difference in the movement type haha. the ceramic bezel is definitely nice though. At that price point of an Omega, one really SHOULD care about the movements that are beating in their timepieces...expensive things those are The tendency is always to believe that a new movement is better because it after all is the latest and assumed most hi-tech and improved...but what new movements do not have, is a proven track record. We have some legendary movements from the 60s/70s/80s that have stood the test of time and some of them are still being used in todays hi-end watches... the JLC 920 & 478, Lemania 321(is it still used today?? hmmm), Zenith 3019 El-primero instantly come to mind... for testimonials of durability, accuracy and reliability... you'd also have to include various ETA movements (2890 - 2892) & Valjoux 7750 as special mention as well...(i wont be mentioning any movements from the "holy trinity" as i will be bound to go on all sorts of other tangents but then again i don't suppose most of the big fish who own S600 Mercedes ever opened their car bonnets in their lives...but then many of them sort cannot be considered enthusiasts as well... Added on October 27, 2012, 12:44 am QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Oct 27 2012, 12:40 AM) i heard omega has so much faith in their movement that they gave buyers a 4 year warranty on a new watch. This post has been edited by yonggoh: Oct 27 2012, 12:44 AM |

QUOTE(plush @ Oct 27 2012, 12:49 AM) well first of all the 8500 was built from scratch with emphasis on a co-axial escapement... it also comes with omegas new Si14 silicon (pictured)balance spring which apparently makes it more shock resistant.the 2500 is essentially a an ETA 2892 with an added co-axial escapement applied. 39-41mm is the ideal size for a gent...
Unless youre the size of LeBron or have eyesight problems, anything larger will look like a trendy boy wearing a clock on your wrist. Plus when you're 60 you'll look retarded wearing an oversized watch. Just my 2c... From, A 44mm Panerai Owner This post has been edited by yonggoh: Oct 27 2012, 12:03 PM |

desk diving
A term used in the watch collecting community to refer to scuffs, scratches, and wear to a watches bracelet received while sitting at an office desk. These marks are considered normal wear and tear and are usually received while typing as the bracelet rubs the desk. The term comes from the popularity of diving watches that are worn not for diving purposes, but for aesthetic ones in the office. |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Nov 1 2012, 05:13 PM) My apologies in advance but I just can't shake the image of that iconic titanic + steamy glass scene off my head looking at your pic. hahaha... was actually a "spare" shot from my pregnant wife's photoshoot the other week...Leo wasn't wearing a Daytona for sure la. obviously this wont make the final print... but from a time piece perspective... it does carry some degrees of fascination... |
