I was offered around 10k for this haha.

Still thinking since 10k is not a small sum, plus when you are exposed to 5 digit budgets, you can always get some awesome watch like Zenith and etc too smile.gif

ahhh i had the exact same B&R Phantom Watch from my own collection for sale a couple months ago for quite a bit less than the Retail price...

Yeah, RM12k is ok la. The listed price I was quoted for the rose gold/black model was RM20k. I can buy a Zenith Chronomaster already with that kind of money.
dunno about B&R snobbing, but for Panerai it's usually "The new Rolex for Cinapeks"  laugh.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong though.
*
B&R gets its fair share of flack because despite their supposed "mid-level" pricing for a timepiece (typically RM10k+), all their pieces all use off the shelf unmodified ETA Valjoux movements that can typically be found in pieces that can be had for a quarter of their prices...
What this means, is that a buyer is paying a premium for pretty much a casing, branding and all the marketing hoolah... which is fine if one puts value into such things... but is frowned upon by the horology nerds who are more particular with the guts of a watch (in house movement) and tradition...

Panerai is an interesting one because it has never really branded itself as a horological powerhouse... They have a rich history, tho even when they were commission by the italian navy in WW2 they were still using outsourced movements...It was only recently with their Manifattura line of watches that Panerai began to do things in house...These puppies often commanded premium over the ETA fitted pieces but often with monster duration power reserves that beat at 28,800vph...Attached is the pic of the in-house P9000 as used in my PAM312.

Attached Image

It was only in the mid 90s when a certain actor with the funky sneering lips, became ambassador(tho not officially??) for the brand that Panerai became noticed in the luxury watch segment and command the high sticker prices of today... While such a recent resurgence of the brand typically indicates an uncertain staying power...no other watch company is able to clear their inventory like Panerai do and that trend doesnt look like dying anytime soon with the continued fascination of oversized watches.... Saying that, traditionalist tend to overlook the brand as trendy over hyped articles with little horological significance....

a Rolex for Cinapeks??? don't even mention Rolex in the same sentence... sweat.gif

The Grand Seiko is like Lexus...

Making a great product that can rub shoulders with some of the worlds best in its class...
But at the end of the day, its gonna get knocked because it doesn't say "swiss made" on its dial...

Pity that...

i pity u for feeling this.

my next watch is going to be GS/Credor; and I will be proud of it. I am choosing it over explorer II.
*
ahh don't get me wrong... i personally don't discriminate against the houses of Grand Seiko and Credor...
i was just highlighting a common public perception...
The fact that you have chosen a one over the popular Explorer II is testament to its merits... one simply doesn't spend that sort of money without proper thought and deliberations so power to you..
Ive worn my G-Shock proudly to the workplace and meetings plenty of times when i could've worn my Daytona instead...
Do take pics of your new acquisition thumbup.gif
