QUOTE(PhakFuhZai @ May 14 2012, 12:11 PM)
but anyway, isn't the standard antenna cable also unshielded one? they are still the coaxial cable anyway
*
Correct. Standard antenna cable is unshielded. The differences between satellite cable and standard antenna cable is that satellite signal cable core (the single-strand part in the center of the cable) is not slightly thicker, there's also a layer of aluminum shield between the core and ground. Standard antenna cable don't have that aluminum shield and thus pick up interference as well as suffer signal degradation.

QUOTE(avantasia @ May 14 2012, 12:28 PM)
My installer told me that he use splitter!
*
As I said before, it is plausible, but you will maybe suffer signal degradation.

Still worth trying tho. On normal (non-baeyong) decoder the degradation is not too bad in my experience. Before I install baeyong iirc my cabling is half satellite cable, half antenna cable because difficult to get the needed satellite cable and I wanted to extend the cable from the hall into my room.

bae yong = roughly Hokkien for "Cannot use" or "useless" tongue.gif

I coined the term because I feel that Assteruk is useless for me- their HD contents doesn't please me, I'm one of the minorities interested in neither bola sepak nor chinese drama, and I've been disappointed by their channel choices.

Maybe that's where their satellite rental (I remember they announced deal to rent bandwidth from Thaicom? Correct me if I'm wrong) will come into play- use rented satellite to transmit Olympic, then once done, terminate contract.

QUOTE(smileguy @ May 15 2012, 02:12 PM)
The reason is they want to trap you with a contract, free or not is not the issue, decide wisely. tongue.gif
It still comes down to this. Why they want to trap existing customers with extended contract? Of course laa scard of them leaving left and right! People already wised up to Assteruk's tricks and despite their attempt to cover up, it's already well known that a lot of people terminated. Quoting the old song from The Who: Won't get fooled again. So they use tricks like NoJOI and free PVR upgrade to make what's left extend their contracts with them.

QUOTE(smileguy @ May 15 2012, 02:12 PM)
True pal.its gonna stink!!!I thought they were suppose to use Thaicom cos they hv no more space  and I wonder what happened. hmm.gif

Exactly my thoughts too!

well, can treat it as the method to get clearer reception of media prima and rtm channels laugh.gif
Well, I don't need it tongue.gif Klang town is very strategic in that all the UHF transmitters (KL Tower and Genting Highlands) are in line of sight and one well positioned UHF antenna is enough to pick up from both where Analog and Digital is concerned. Just need a second VHF antenna pointed towards Sungai Besi for RTM1 and 2 and that covers all analog channels.

Also...

getting fedup with the FTA analog broadcasts doh.gif

Yeah. Very fed up with FTA channels. They dropped too many shows mid-season and never bring in new seasons of shows I like that I'm very PO'ed by them already. Plus, very pissed off when I tuned into Lilo and Stitch the Series on TV2 one morning and found that they've translated it to Malay. I dun understand the practicality of that action doh.gif

Hi there,
I am thinking of buying Blackmagic intensity to capture some some of my favorite HD program from Astro Byond to keep as my personal copy. Do you think Astro will block the HDMI signal input to Blackmagic to prevent copying of these byond channels

Thanks
*
I can confirm it's not going to work, at least not without a HDCP remover in the middle (*cough*HDFury2*cough*). Blackmagic Intensity does not support HDCP encryption. Take it from someone who attempted to experiment on this when baeyong first came out.

There's another card out that supports HDCP- AVerMedia HD-DVR iirc. Not sure if it's available in Malaysia tho- I hear people say it's available, but I can't find one personally. However, from what I read it's HDCP support isn't much of an improvement- it allows Assteruk to display on the computer (compare to black screen with message "Copy Protection Failed" on a Blackmagic Intensity) but attempting to record will result in the "Copy Protection Failed" error.

Like Chikana said you can still record from analog with HD signal downsampled to SD tho, which is a somewhat acceptable compromise for me. Which is still somewhat better than TM's IPTV (even analog SD is Macrovision protected doh.gif )

Does that mean I can use Blackmagic with HDFury to record in HD? I prefers a standalone HD PVR instead of something that connect to PC. Any such device available? I want to replace my old Panasonic DVD PVR. Thanks.
*
You need to use a video capture card that capture HD in component analog like Intensity Pro, HD-PVR or HD-DVR and combine with HDFury2. Direct HDMI never try since I don't have access to AVerMedia HD-DVR, but most likely is all channels marked as cannot record.

Standalone HD PVR, afaik the only thing is BD recorder, which I think only available in Japan, accepts 60Hz signals only, records only through HDMI and adheres by HDCP protection signal anyway (i.e. useless because assteruk, as mentioned above, most likely tags all channel as cannot record).

I'm thinking of getting HDFury3 + Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle. Are they available locally? Thanks.
*
Mac City iirc is a distributor for Blackmagic products in Malaysia so you can order it from them (don't worry, they won't ask if you have a Mac Pro before selling it to you). HDFury3... you need to order online. It's also quite expensive as to discourage misuse, so think carefully.

Disclaimer so any killjoy who read this dun go out and ban the device: like all devices, HDFury3 can be used for both good and evil- the good use is to convert VGA or component port to HDMI in case you run out of connectors on the back of your TV (seriously! Some TVs like my old 19" Sharp only has one HDMI port!), or get a uncooperative TV (what you get for buying those cap ayam brand LCD TVs) to work with HDCP-locked HDMI source.

QUOTE(ZHashim38 @ May 17 2012, 12:23 PM)
Thanks for the info, I guess we're stuck with HD downgrading to SD using RCA input. Any suggestion on the best capture/playback card/usb available in Malaysia
*
I think those DVD-Maker USB dongles should be good enough for the purpose. Just make sure you use a good capture software. Many low-end capture software can suffer from audio sync problems where recording too long can cause the sound and video to lose sync after some time.

You pay nothing, but I think I read earlier on this thread that if you accept your contract will be locked down for two year (meaning you cannot terminate assteruk for another two year once you accept the foc PVR)?

OK, if we capture HD using blackmagic intensity with HDCP stripper, meaning that we can record Byong HD content or do we still have problem with it, such as  copy failed error etc.etc.
*
Well, once you get a HDCP stripper in the middle, copy protection is gone...

Hey again, interesting. Guess I wanna buy this machine too. Hv you got the viewHD already. Thought of buying that too to strip the HCDP before I could record Byond with HD EZrecorder. Thanks for your help coz I am still novice in this thingy..
*
Just looked up the EzRecorder. Sounds interesting. I wonder if any shop in Malaysia will pick it up. On the other hand, it has to be used with a HDMI-to-Component box with built-in HDCP support or it's not going to work. And I don't think those are sold in Malaysia? I saw some in HDMI to Component/VGA converters in Viewnet but am not sure it support HDCP.

Hi, If I can get viewHD with two HDMI input to component (said to have HDCP compliant), then I think HD EZrecorder can make it works to record Byond. Don't you think?
*
Well, once it's converted to analog, then there is no more copy protection.

LOL, as long as it has a censorship department, most will be delayed...

So it appears that Assteruk lies to it's sources, lies to it's own employees, and of course, most horribly, lies to the public.

Assteruk is no difference from the Dominion in SCII...

Rais Yatim is Emperor Mengsk. And that Vincent de Paul guy? Donny Vermillion.

But if Assteruk dun lie to their employees, why did that ex-engineer tell me that Asstertuk cannot censor the incoming signal and is like ignorant to assteruk's censorship regime? Unless she's lying to me also...

But why would she lie to me tho? She's no longer working for assteruk at that time...

Well they had no choice... if they dont censor, their license is at risk...  this applies to all tv broadcast... but i can assure you, most channels (non astro in house channels) have the delay system implemented, except those local tv1 tv2 tv3 etc, certain movie channel, certain kids show... the remaining astro own channels are free from that system because the material itself has been pre censored, so they just play back the same edited program
*
Yeah, I know. Just wondering what that ex-engineer has to gain with lying to me...

Just check another forum have another one company called ABN will coming soon.  rclxms.gif
*
Correct, but three problems with ABN:
1: Fiber rollout. Base on my experience with fiber (goddamnit TM! By the time UniFi reached my area the channel I want badly has already stopped showing the show I want to see!), I think we'll wait until grow beard and white hair already only it'll come...
2: They're too secretive. What channels do they have? When is the exact opening date? They do not reply to e-mails and questions posted to FB, their website hasn't been updated for ages, and their jobstreet profiles are nonexistent even if they have a few entries there.
Importantly, this leads to:
3: How do we know it isn't a front created just to distract us from assteruk's monopoly?
