I am having the same problem as well, as I can't change the volume using my Astro remote.
However, your solution doesn't seem to work.
Can anybody else help me?

You did not explain clearly how you connected your 2 TVs with the Astro Byond box. Is it 2 Byond box to 2 TVs ? So I assume you connected your 2 TVs to one Byond box. My audio comments do not apply to the normal Astro DMT box (non HD).

If these are the connections you made...
user posted image

Then this is what happened...

1) The volume buttons (+) and (-) on the Byond Remote ONLY controls the audio volume output from the RCA (Red & White) connection to your Panasonic TV. So when you continually pressed the (-) button on the Byond remote, the audio volume will continue to reduce, no need to use Panasonic remote to change the TV's own volume.

2) The audio volume level is FIXED and NOT CHANGEABLE from Byond HDMI and Co-Axial output connections. Therefore the volume buttons (+) and (-) on the Byond Remote CANNOT change the audio volume from these connections. Therefore, in order to change the audio volume, you can only use the TV volume control.

3) The same thing happens if you connect from... Byond box >> to Amplifier >> to HD TV. In such cases, only the amp volume can control the volume for HDMI and Co-axial connections.

The Astro Byond DMT box is built to output SD and HD (max 1080i px) and is designed to output in this manner.

It is also designed NOT to output audio if you change the Byond box "Digital Output Audio" setting to "Dolby Digital 5.1 (Digital Only)". When this setting is used, there is NO audio from the Byond RCA Red & White output.

Refer here... Using Byond Remote, Press [HOME] > [Settings] > [Your Settings] > [Digital Audio Settings] > Digital Audio Output [Dolby Digital 5.1 (Digital Only)]. When changed to this, read the WARNING message below. If you changed this to [Stereo (analogue and Digital)], then you will hear audio from ALL connections BUT you will ONLY get stereo PCM audio (not Dolby Digital 5.1) from the HDMI and co-axial connections.

If both of your TVs are HD TVs, try reversing all the connections to both TVs and the problem will now appear in your Panasonic TV, not LG TV !

The are TWO main problems here which the Astro or third party engineers intentionally designed into the Byond DMT box...

1) The Byond Remote audio volume buttons is intentionally designed (in the mainboard) ONLY to control the audio volume from the analog RCA (Red & White) connections.

2) Too bad that it is also confirmed that the stereo PCM output from all SD channels is at a lower volume than the Dolby Digital 5.1 output from all the HD channels. The same thing happens for ALL channels whenever some advertisements appear such the fu***ing Supersport advertisement showing any latest Live sports events. I have phoned to customer support a few times for many years complaining about the sudden LOUD volume during (for example) an advertisement/program trailer whenever a documentary breaks. When the documentary continues, the audio drops way too low !

As long as stupid people like me and others continue to subscribe to Assteruk, I don't think they will listen. The only way Astro will listen and take action is when 60+ percent of existing subscribers complained and immediately cancel their subscription. I think such action will not happen as people won't cooperate together to go for massive cancellation at the same time ! Assteruk definitely won't listen if only 0.01 percent smart people took action to cancel their subscriptions. This "mahu Astro mari, kalau tak mahu, aku tak peduli" attitude is also made worse when Astro monopolises the Malaysian sat TV market including HD content, plus fat revenues from other income sources for transponder rentals, and so forth.

Although I am not too sure how the subscriptions works for others in the US, DirecTV sat subscriptions is US$ 29.99 per month for 120 channels which I suspect is all in HD ! This is a fuc**ing incredible price of about RM 90.10 per month. I don't know if there are other additional fees or Sat Box charges but for me, on the surface, its too cheap, my dear kakak dan abang ! Assteruk is getting more and more obese everyday and one day in the near future, I hope it gets diabetes or heart failure !

Did you know ?
Guess what ? Celestial Tiger Entertainment owns these channels... Celestial Classic Movies, Celestial Movies, Celestial Movies HD, Kix, Kix HD, Thrill. Celestial Pictures Limited is a shareholder of Celestial Tiger Entertainment. Guess who owns Celestial Pictures Limited ? Celestial Pictures is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Astro Holdings Sdn Bhd. So with many twists and turns, Astro Holdings Sdn Bhd owns a portion of all Celestial movies channels !! Refer here...http://www.celestialtiger.com/about-company.asp

My apologies if I have in any way sound a bit arrogant in any of my comments here. Be cheerful always as life is always a continuous challenge.
*
You said whatever i had in mind if only 60% terminate asstro today tommorrow we wl see changes, but malaysians forget easily ,mudah lupa, the amount who bring up issues are only a handfull, one more thing stopping them is there iis no alternative to cut the asstro! Most of astro channels hv a JV agreement with asstro, thay are so rich they buy stakes in all channel providers so that they hv full control of those channels content and those who dont cooperate wl be kicked out. we pay the highest for malaysianised content.

What an explanation James.

I do have same kind of problem, I'm using HDTV and Yamaha amplifier, everything connected to my amp and only 1 cable from amp to my tv. All connection using hdmi.

The flickering sometime happened about 30sec, the display at the decoder show 'decoder off' instead of Dolby digital.

This only happened with hd channel, not all of the HD channel. It occurred mostly when I watched espn hd, hbo hd & nat geo hd sometimes..

What would be the prob, is it my hdmi? I never tried change my hdmi cable, I'm using normal one that I bought from challenger around 50-60 bucks
*
Isnt the flickering due to upscaling by the AVR or the TV ? I had the same problem disabled the TV upscaling clear scan function all ok dy! icon_rolleyes.gif

Its official site is at ... http://www.abnxcess.com/index.html

ABN Xcess is wholely owned by Asian Broadcasting Network (M) Sdn Bhd (514935-T) which focuses on bringing about convergence in the fields of Information, Communication and Television. Its ABN Puchong Gateway will be the initial broadcast centre that will set the platform for the region's most advanced digital creation and transmission hub.

Its a new company which I have read news that they will initially ONLY offer cable IPTV after signing contract with Motorola Mobility to provide the most advanced digital cable TV services. Read here... http://myhdchannels.blogspot.com/2012/02/abn-new-pay-tv.html

As quoted by Chief Executive Officer and Director Sreeedhar Subramaniam ... "All I would say is it (the packages) would be lower because we have made a commitment to the government that we will provide an affordable service and the beauty of the platform we are using, cable TV, is that the cost structure allows us to do that,” he told reporters after ... ... ... alliance between ABN and Motorola. Refer here... http://myhdchannels.blogspot.com/2011/11/abnxcessnilamas-new-competitor-in-town.html

Pay attention to the blue italic text above as its very significant for people who are not living in BIG cities such as KL and Penang.

Yes, ABN Xcess is expected to be launched in Quarter 2 of 2012 (April) but as a Cable TV Network, its excellent news for a small percentage of lucky people who stays in the Klang Valley (KL, PJ) and maybe nearby areas. The question is... compete with Astro ? Nope !! Maybe ABN Xcess can destroy Astro's stranglehold in KL but no way it can compete with Astro when we talk of NATIONWIDE coverage !

Unless in future, ABN can or do joint venture with broadcasting operators that have satellite access or purchase satellite transmission services, it is futile to wish that it can compete with Astro's nationwide satellite TV channels.

Ah... a BIG aaaaah. How I wish ... with saliva drooling from my mouth... that IPTV will be available nationwide in the very near future ! Its almost next to impossible for underground high bandwidth fiber-optic cable to be laid in most towns in the whole country. As we do know, UniFi broadband is only available in some areas in Klang Valley, not the entire location in KL, PJ, Sungei Buloh and so forth. Why not available in Kuantan, Muar, Segamat ? The same reason as for IPTV... the cost of infrastructure for underground cables, repeaters, distribution equipment, etc which is undoubtedly not going to happen for the whole country. Even in the US, not every town in their entire country have cable TV, which is why satellite channels are the most popular there where DirecTV is a leading HD provider.

Cable TV (IPTV) is pretty much a DREAM for me in my tiny hometown in Pahang and also for the millions of people not staying in Klang Valley. ABN Xcess AND Astro compete ? With Astro's monopoly on the nationwide satellite TV service, its just a mosquito bite ... using Mopiko cream will easily stop the itch from ABN loh !

Sorry that I have not been able to find any info on whether its channels will be in HD or SD. I suppose (guess) that it will be partly in HD.

Mmm... ABN launching Hybrid Fibre-Coax (HFC) network in Q2, 2012 using Motorola Mobility equipment and services.

More info... http://www.opssmedia.com/2011/11/saluran-tv-berbayar-abn-xcess-bakal.html

Thanks for the news but unfortunately, its only a fantasy for me, hehe.  rclxub.gif

Peace  cool.gif

NEW ADDITION
Will ABN Xcess last and succeed or will it suffer the same fate as Metrovision, Mega TV (ceased operations in 2001), and U TV ? I think U TV (from Berjaya Times Group) ceased operations on October 2006, and they have now switched to U Mobile.
References...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U_Television

Yes, its partly correct that subscribers will be discouraged to switch to other provider but I believe that upgrading to Byond with an additional one year contract could also be because Astro is a business corporation which wants to recover part of the cost of the Byond decoder that are provided "FOC" with lifetime warranty. For people like me and others nationwide, there is NO other satellite TV provider. Of course, the best competitor is through using Dreambox to receive "free" Satellite TV channels which may or may not be legal... if you use the BIG dish, the government made it illegal to use such dish without a license and its also illegal to receive Astro channels using Dreambox without a legitimate subscription. Damn... Assteruk monopoly !

Mmm... I do remember the good old days in the mid 70s when I was studying in KL. At that time I listened to Rediffussion cable radio which is only available in KL, Penang, Johore Baru and Malacca. I think Rediffusion closed in the 80s because of FM radio. I think I only paid RM 5 per month and my favorite was "Lei Dai Soh" in cantonese. At that time, no way to be available in all towns nationwide.

*
The question is wl ABN takeoff nationwide? Some say yes cos its like megatv thing the towers can carry signals,I am in doubt abt in maybe someone here can enlightent us on this .
BTW james i do also remember the days i had megatv, it was fun too a few channels but ok,the service was good at rm45,but the nuts pulled out i wonder why! Asstro now seems too artificial but very expensive!

bro, That prompts me to ask when an indian hd channel wl be availiable?!The issue of repeats is common here simply bcos there is no variety of channels. 90% of channels are of fixed content.you must hv 200 over channels not abt 100 with m ore then a dozen in house

When u start it wl be fine just after one month u feel the heat of repeats, the cuts and filters of course its there,as I said Astro lacks variety it offers only fixed content and too many In House channels BUT its the most expensive in this region tongue.gif Think about it but with HD ,SP seems to be the best choice. icon_rolleyes.gif

ABN should be able to broadcast OTT on the Unifi fiber back bone. Basically they use the TM fiber to send IP encapsulated DVB-C signal until to the junction outside your house, then from there it is converted back to cable signal.
*
Bro,we know nothing about this,so does this mean they can take off nationwide, cos i recall megatv started off and covereed most of the peninsular.About relying on unifi I doubt thats possible cos unifi is still crawling ! hmm.gif

Your dish alignment has problem the installer did not do a good job I think ur dish has to be realigned and check u get all HD channels u subscribed before he leaves no such thing as takes time to appear! My relative got all HD except ESPN HD until the dish was moved and realigned again by the installer. nod.gif

Usually when I changed to any test channels, I only see this message... "This channel is not included in your subscription"... then I immediately changed back to the normal channels because I did not notice anything.

Yes, I never thought of pressing the remote [I-II] button to check which audio and subtitles are being tested.

Thanks for the tip.

Anyway, some of the subs are are fixed for some films. I know that its important for people who do not understand the audio language so having subs are necessary... but the subs should not be fixed and we should be able to switched it off for people who understands the language. For me, its a bit annoying. Example, Malay subs fixed and cannot be switched off for some english films and, since I can understand english, its annoying that I cannot switched it off. Maybe some films already came with fixed subs. Since Byond already have audio and subs that can be changed using the remote [I-II] button, Astro should try their best to use this to allow some people to switch sub language to "None".

That is why I never watched any taiwanese variety shows which shows lots of chinese text, small drawings or graphics that pop out and filled much of the entire TV screen. Annoying for me but other people love it so this is only my taste. Everyone have their own choice and taste so I don't complain and just choose not to watch it. So I am dissapointed when I cannot switch off subs for shows that I can understand the language.

Its ok for RTM, TV3, NTV7 because its free and they do not use any advanced decoder box. Yes... it will take time for Astro to fix and change most programs to switchable audio and subs so I do understand.

I'll never go back to Assteruk ever again.

I cancelled my subscription in December 2010. Bills all paid off. They ask that I return my cam card or they will charge me RM80. So I did. I mailed it back to them by registered post and even double-checked with them to see if the card reached them. Case closed.

One year plus no problem.

Then on Friday they have the nerve to send me lawyer letter saying I never return cam card and owe them RM80.

A quick phone call to them netted me an apology, but if they dare kacau me again, will take them to court. You tarik my BBC Entertainment (AC Nielsen. oh you mean those f**ktards whose parent company Nielsen Media got caught faking survey results in the US) . No other way to get Doctor Who, especially after the MCMC FS internet censorship block. You did not deliver the channels you and your salesman promised. Now you want to sue me even though I settled everything.

I did once plan to go back if they bring in the channels I want. Now I will never go back. Screw you Assteruk.
