Hi,

I would like to get a granite table tops with 3G cabinets. My contractor have given me a quotation and told me
that the side of the table should be tiles, around 3" covering the concrete (pls see arrows on picture below). blink.gif
I thought the whole thing should be granite cover up the concrete? If tiles on the side, granite on tops, UGLY, right?
I'm confused. Can someone enlighten me? icon_question.gif Thanks.

for the edge of the top, you can ask contractor to do the granite like the attached

for the side, there is nothing u can do, maybe can extend the table till the wall, then you wont have "sides"

Thk u very much for such useful info. The contractor will charge me extra RM1XXX just for the edge, if use granite. Reasonable?
But how come there is no such thick edge on those kitchen cabinets done by Unity Kitchen, etc, etc? Is it because they use
wooden support & cabinets?

maybe you should crosscheck with quotation from another contractor, i can't remember whether i was charged that much for the edge but extra 1k counds a lot to me (mine was a few years back, now probably due to inflation bla bla and bla... u know)

i think the guys at Unity can also do it. This is all about 'moulding' the granite.

the final product can look like the attched photos. this is not my kitchen. its a 5 star hotel suite in SG. i just thought it can give you an idea how it will be.

If I understand you correctly, there should not be a problem to have granite covering all 3 sides. Why don't you try contacting other granite suppliers for confirmation. It could be that your contractor is trying to cut cost.

Understand. Again, the contractor said I need to top-up another RM1XXX for the edge only, not include side. He showed me the granite samples. Those normal granite tops, one piece 'straight straight' only. If comes with edge, it looks like L-shape. The cutting & polishing, etc, cost is different. How true it is??

In JB here ah, the contractors know how to monopolize the price. If u tell the contractor that u supply the granite and ask him to do the concrete support,
he will not do it. He will tell u to ask other people do it. mad.gif

Hi JS..im from Jb too..and i be gettin my granite this week..
the guy quoted me L-shape with around 2.0" thick with cutting and polishing at RM22 per square ft..

so i assume RM1XXX is bit steep..

As for normal buffer/polishing based on the original thickness of e granite..which abt 2cm..its RM12 per square ft..

By the way,i choose the cheapest white granite which about RM20+ per square ft..smile.gif

Yes, here in Selangor, is around rm70-120/pfr without tiles, off course depending on labour skills (Chinese, indon etc). for 9x9 , just calculate (9’x7’) as the other 2’ is overlapped. Remember to add the supporting legs foot run too

Totally agree with u about contractors in JB coz I have the same experience on this granite and kitchen cabinet issue. They want to monopolize everything and also charge us the same price as for Singaporeans. That's the reason everything is expensive here in JB sad.gif

You can try this granite factory in Taman Daya . First Megatop Granite Sdn Bhd. Mr Loh Ah Koon 073558791. Lots of choices. I didn't get to buy his granite as my contractor refused to build the concrete support only sad.gif

But, I think there are still some reasonable ones...
