I got a question here.

The duration for SAM is probably around 8-12 months. That depends on which intake you take.

If I join the SAM intake on March, it will just be 8 months study. An intensive one. Will it be tough? I heard my seniors saying that cramming all the subjects in 8 months is hell of a roller coaster ride. They actually had a hard time too even though they joined the Jan intake. Covering all the assignments, projects, and examinations in just 8 months. I wonder how to. I do not feel like taking STPM or A levels cause the duration of the time is too long. A levels is expensive as well and I'm planning to further my studies in Aus in the future.

Will I just managed to pass or will I pass it with flying colours if I take SAM? I'm not a genius, just an average student who had just finished his SPM.

Any opinions? Am I having the wrong perception on this matter? Can anyone tell me more?

Your help would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks.

Added on February 5, 2009, 2:24 amBesides, if I do take SAM. Means I can only further my studies in universities in Southern Australia? And whats the difference between SAM and AusMat?

I'm confused.
*
Hi steven,

If you want to study degree in Aust. for whole 3 years then taking SAM would be the best. Plus you need to take IELTS before you go over. If you are planning to go over for only the last year of degree then i would suggest you to go straight for the course you are aiming for. I dont think SAM only allows you to go into the region of SA. Its the whole Aussie regardless of which region you choose. Their education system are the same throughout the whole Australia.

Others please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey guys, i have some questions on several courses.

- Is it a 'must' to have accountancy class in secondary school to pursue the course in University?
- What might be the suitable course that might involve in investment stuffs?

Hope you guys can shed some light...  biggrin.gif

SPM is just an entry level for Colleges in Msia. Nothing more. Even if you choose to go into science stream, you can end up in some arts courses as long as you have the interest.

Now as for the investment, you can start of with business studies. Even if you are very certain because through experience, many people will change their interest as they progress into the working world. Some Engineers are now accountants and so on and so forth. Just choose something more general with the subject of your interest. Usually this would be on Diploma level for 3 years or 1 depending on the college. When it comes to Degree you may Major in your area of interest. Bear in mind that many people who chooses business studies but doesn't like accounts because they only like to manage or do Human Resource Management. Diploma level will help people to have an overall view of the business world.

Wow, after looking thorough this thread, I had a better understand about some routes for those fresh SPM graduates. I do not know whether I post in wrong place. If I do, I would like to say sorry:sweat:

I am a Form five science stream student. I have no opportunity to opt art stream although I hate science and Math since those who score straight A's in PMR is compulsory to take pure science in our school sad.gif  . The subjects that I currently study is BM, English, BC, Math, MT, Sejarah, PM, Bio, Chem, Physics and EST. Nevertheless, I intend to study Form Six art stream and take music course after STPM since I had Dip. ATCL certificate for my piano and love music.

What I would like to know are :

- Is it a wrong or right choice for intending study Form six after SPM? My friends said that it is a very silly decision. They advised me to take music course after SPM.However, I need to take Dip.LTCL exam in 2011 or 2012 year.

- Is it a wrong choice if I would like to drop MT and some science subjects ( Physics and Chemistry) for SPM? I had a bad results for science and MT subjects ( Chemistry failed ) but quite good results for Math, History  and other language subjects in last year final exam. I scared bad MT and science results will make me cannot take form six course after SPM.

Please give me some advises:help:  Thank you smile.gif
*
Just to add a few experience that I have encountered.

Its ok to do STPM if you are planning to go into local Uni to pursue your Music course. There are a few Big and Famous Uni but I can't remember.

Its not a bad or good idea to drop subjects but its the matter of how much can you cope and produce good results. So just keep to the minimum requirement for SPM and do well for those subjects. That will make your SPM results in the end more glorious than before. wink.gif

Added on February 6, 2009, 12:06 pmHello,
For all those who are vague about what to study and still clueless as to what is your interest, try going to this college and take a career guide test. It really works.

www.lifecollege.edu.my

They will tell you your interest through your habit and character. From there you can discover more about yourself.

I'm pretty much interested in Photography and I have decided to take Diploma in Digital Photography , as I ask a few college about it , one of them keep offer me to take Diploma in Graphic Design instead as my career opportunity is much wider to advertising firms and so on.
I'm not sure If I should take Diploma in Graphic Design as I'm more interested towards Photography and I have not much interest and knowledge in Graphic design.
Since I'm in science stream , I did quite badly in art and I hardly have any knowledge in it.

I really home some of you guys can enlighten me which courses and which college to go and help me choose the correct path.

Thank you. smile.gif

Agreed.. I got a friend who is really into photography but he does it during his free time and stuff like that.. He's going to read law soon.. You can take up graphic designing and still do your photography.. Don't think short term, think of the long term future..

Why do you say that? A-Levels is a very good qualification to achieve as it is widely acceptable in most universities whether local or abroad. It also helps to prepare you for uni life especially if you are still not sure about what you want to do next.

My sincere advice to SPM leavers.

I was once at the same stage of leaving school and do not know what to do, sometimes choices are limited by

1. Poor SPM results/ SPM forecast results

2. Lack of support from family financially.

3 Lack of knowledge of the student itself on future ambition

4. No knowledge of the universities/colleges apart from knowing that is pretty famous and ALL my friends plan to study there

6. No guidance from teachers

7. Totally no idea what is JPA, UPU, IMU, MMU, UTP, TOEFL, IELTS, the list goes on

My humble advice would be most importantly knowing what you want, do not pursue what your friends are pursuing, if everything is going to do A levels at X College, do you really need to follow if your parents cant afford it. NO

When it comes to choosing on what to major, with the world wide web now, i think is pretty easy to google it up, the most common profession most student choose are

engineering ( countless type of it)
medicine
mass communication ( are you ready to work hard?)
art
IT ( everyone into it)
language ( not so many people, but is pretty good future to be teacher)
architecture
science
business
management
nursing
law
The list could go on pretty far but as far as I know, these are the few rather famous one that people choose or their parents would want them to be.

While I was at that stage, to be honest, I have NO IDEA what engineering is all about, all I know was I get scholarship for it, is a pretty good university, pretty good future, OK GO….

did i regret?

YES and NO, yes that I wasted 5 years studying something that I did not like it

NO that I did manage to get a very good job, meet really amazing people and the future is definitely there.

I met one financial planner last week, he told he was biomedical engineering graduate but never pursue in it, the famous financial blogger kclau was also engineering graduate but never pursue a career in it but yet found other things that he really loves.

Before applying for anything, please do understand the following few terms

Foundation- a one year course after SPM to prepare for undergraduate studies, some of the more popular options are STPM, A level, Ausmat, pre-u, matriculation

Undergraduate- It means getting a degree out of it, before entering undergraduate , one need to obtain foundation, matriculation, or STPM before pursuing it.

Postgraduate - It means getting a master of it, before entering postgraduate studies, one need to obtain undergraduate degree certificate, usually the recruit only the top 30 % , so one should obtain good results in undergraduate course

Doctoral- It means getting PhD , this requires additional 4 years after master studies, people who are really into research and education should consider getting one

Post-doc – It usually a paid research program for one year or more, it requires lots of research and thesis writing.

CV/Resume -a document that contains a summary or listing of relevant job experience and education. The résumé or CV is typically the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker and is typically used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview

Reference Letter- It is very very important to have maintain a good relationship with your lecturer/ teacher, as you do require a letter from them especially for oversea application. Also you need to draft out a good one for them to sign it.

Essay – why do they require essay ??, most importantly is to test your writing skills and also your english skills, to me the essay is the key point is obtaining the scholarship, if your good results could grant you a university admission, your essay would be able to grant you a scholarship.

If you are SPM leaver, look out for foundation courses to apply, or certain universities also accept undergraduate application provided you do a one year foundation course with them.

I will update more on advice soon.

that is one detail list for those who are in Form 5.. i guess those who are working now must go thru that stage b4.. and i am not excepted as well.. hehehehe..

sure it is a head ache period to decide where to go..
i get a good result from my trial.. so ended up in Form6.. cheapest ma.
then the actual results, my BM only P7... and not allowed to study form6 even after 3 mths there.. wasted my time and money to buy books and uniform.. my family not so rich ma.. hehehe..

then the 2nd cheapest college to go is TAR...so i ended up in Pg TAR C.. heheeh.. the course to choose is also another headache.. and finally i end up with business.. why.. as i can still go to many other working line after graduate.... and there spent 4 yrs to get my adv dip...

work as life insurance seller for 1 years plus.. then go to HR field for 2 yrs.. then now ended in Property Marketing.. hehehehehe....

wat u study does not really affect or show what u will be working as.. the dip, adv dip, degree or even master is just a piece of paper to go for interview.. nothing more than that.. hahahha

Hello.

What is your current level of education?

After SPM, you can go to Foundation (5C) or Diploma (3C) then directly to Degree...

Good Luck! thumbup.gif

Hello,

What you are studying is really depending on your interest. You do not have to listen to what the others said. It will be difficult if the subject you study is not of your choice.

1. Since you have chosen the diploma route, then you may go along with that. How many semester you have gone with your diploma? In actual, Foundation will be a faster route. A level and STPM is too risky, unless you are willing to work very hard for it. Let me know.

2. UTP = University Teknologi Petronas? You should be able to join that uni so long as they recognize your SEGI diploma.

3. You will need to see your results and the subject you are taking now to determine.

4. You may change, but you will surely need to study for another few more papers compare with continuing in Chemical Degree.

5. Chemical Engineer should be getting around RM2000-2600 as junior.

Good Luck! thumbup.gif

Hi there. =)

I'm currently 17 years old, taking SPM later this year.

My plan is to get decent enough results - study at PTPL (formerly IPG) doing A-levels in Law - and get a scholarship to a university in Australia and study Law.

The thing is, if I do not get a scholarship to Australia, my chances of studying there are pretty much shot. I'm hoping to get to the university of Melbourne or Sydney.

Any opinions/comments? I wish there was an alternate way to Australia without banking it all on a scholarship, unfortunately my family's funds are limited, so I think thats all I have right now.
