Hmmm! Thanks for the pictures.
But what about the VxxxxV you mentioned?
*
i dont think the 1st type meant anything to do with unifi, becoz the 1st one can be seen in almost anywhere in malaysia, it's just FTTS for streamyx.

Can you tell me what are you seeing at your place?
Which kind of cabinet?

This type(1):
user posted image

Or this type(2):
user posted image

If type(1), it means your area has fibre optic available. Provisioning of Unifi service will depend on when TM wants to service your area. But you're assured that fibre is already READY for further action.

If type(2) it's confirm Unifi will be made available in FTTH in your area. You can start applying . Usually they build this next to type(1) cabinets or those long rocket shape old switches.

If you tour the housing area behind De Garden you'll find many of type(2) FDC cabinets with label "TSK Cxxx"

TSK is the exchange office shortcode and I have no idea what C is followed by 3 digit identifier number.
C could probably mean cable as to fibre optic cable.

Which part of Greentown did you saw this activity going on?

Were they installed aerially on TNB poles too or underground? Where was it heading?

As for Gunung Rapat, it's next as soon as TM completes Tmn Cempaka which is under TSK exchange.
*
The entrance to the shortcut to Greentown, nearby Menteri Besar house.

Wait, I think I know where the place is for the first cabinet in the picture... I have been there if i'm not mistaken.. it's somewhere in Shah Alam... It's a guarded and gated community...
*
It's in Setia Alam. I just borrowed it to do some explanation.
Usually you'll see these cabinets labelled with:
[Area Code] followed by:
F
R
VxxxxV (most recent ones)

It does not GUARANTEE that you'll be getting Unifi though except provide hints that fibre is available.

QUOTE(mitodna @ Nov 19 2011, 11:36 PM)
could this be the first area "service" by P1 ?

V = VDSL ? some said it is 2mbps, which I don't think so, ADSL has been long supporting 4mbps

but anywhere, thinking writing to Menteri Besar can share some light of the internet at Perak?
*
Huh P1? However we are the one of the 1st areas in Ipoh to be serviced by P1 which is true.

I don't have an idea what V also means. Absolutely no idea.
V= video, VDSL, velocity, whatever.
But if you see cabinet type(1) you know there's fibre in your area already.

The correct channel to contact in Perak is:

Some important information about Perak InfoComms infra:

Partner ISP: Jaring

Alternatives for Last Mile connectivity:
• Broadband Over Powerline (BOP)

• Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G

• Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH)

I would disagree and oppose (BOP). FTTH should be the preferred choice.
without an extensive fibre network, BOP and LTE won't materialize.

It as simple idea as trying to plug in a 256kbps DSL WAN connection into a 300mbps MIMO Wireless-N router. Would you still experience fast internet connection? How about replacing the WAN connection with a 100mbps FTTH line?

Same applies to BOP substations and LTE access points. Are you going to get enough internet experience if bandwidth is insufficient?

Your area's exchange is already servicing Unifi. Any new cables running on the telephone poles that you noticed?
The road leading into Tambun turning in from Jln. Sultan Azlan Shah already has one of the type(2) cabinet in front of the army camp.Place close attention on your way back to Tambun town. Sunway Tambun also already covered with one of type(2) cabinets just in front of Sunway College branch. Confirm it with TM staffs if you see them on the streets working nearby your place by striking a conversation with them.

Yes you're right. It doesn't meant anything except just an early indication that fibre is already available in your housing area. Most areas in KV right before Unifi launch were getting these remote cabinets 2 years back.

Until you see type(2) cabinets appearing in your area, FTTH won't be available in your area.

I've not heard of VDSL2 being to depoyed to landed homes yet until now so there's no way those type(1) cabinet will be serving Unifi to landed homes.

Thanks. I will try to find it on my way to Greentown in the next few days.
If not mistaken, that cable is leading to Greentown Business Centre and where Maxis office is.

Nope. Those V labelled ones are most recent. So far only for new ZTE cabinets that I've seen.

They have F and R labelled cabinets before this.

2 TM persons call my mom's house in Ipoh in a separate events and 1 person told her unifi will be available at her house area (30010 jln k. kangsar , near bangunan perak and yuk choi highschool) this december. Another person told her will be available in January.
*
Did you locate or saw any of the following cabinets type(1) or type(2) around your housing area?
Or possible take a picture of the telephone poles behind or near your house?

Not very updated with those colour though but what does it mean then? As in yellow stripped pattern.

As I did saw them put the "high speed broadband installation" signboard by the road side.

Yellow stripped cables belong to TM's HSBB.So that confirms that Unifi is indeed expanding to Greentown and the Menteri Besar's residence area.

As for green stripped, I don't have any idea. That's why I'm waiting for someone to come in for clarification or help on this.

Picture of a V box in Seremban.
Unfortunately I wasn't around to see the type of cable pulled into this box. (not my neighbourhood)
The box buzzes like there's a big fan inside.

Those boxes already prove that fibre is already just close to your house gate.

The question is how soon the telco actually wants to provide FTTH to your house.

Note each cable the pull already has lots of redundancies for future needs.Inside one cable expect at least >8 strands of fibre. Some even reaching as many as over 96 strands each as thin as your hair.
Here's a picture:
http://www.aflglobal.com/getattachment/c2c...able-Range.aspx

1 strand alone can be spliced up to 32 homes but according to Malaysian FTTH scene, they are doing it up to 64 as norm.(Those who know more about this please correct me if I'm wrong).
I can confirm Jaring does 1:64 splices with their KK Cybecity Apartments

What is your 1st 3 digits of your current phone number?

05-???xxxx

If your number is 536xxxx or 533xxxx, then tough luck your exchange is the mini sub exchange that is situated near the Pakatan flats area. This mini telephone exchange is actually a sub exchange of Tasek. They have minimal equipment inside. They serve low cost housing areas.
