Can some insider from the fibre cable industry share with us what is this about?

"Projek Pemasangan Kabel Jalur Lebar Berkelajuan Rendah" going on in my housing area starting last month which is non TM related.

They are installing new poles similar to TM telephone poles(but are not) and also running them on existing TNB electricity poles.
Those cables NEVER touches TM poles for some reasons.

The unfamiliar recognition with those cables are that they have GREEN stripes instead of YELLOW owned by TM Unifi's.

I had the opportunity to ask supervisor of the cable contractor on the job and he says it's going to be used for Maxis upcoming cable TV and broadband project something between the lines.

I'm very heppi now that finally some competing ISPs is now hearing the pleas of Ipoh residents since TM has been depriving us of Unifi for so long.

Thank you for hearing the needs of Ipoh residents. rclxms.gif

Looks like some other telco player is helping lay fibre optic in Ipoh earlier than TM. Kuddos to them. icon_rolleyes.gif

The cable contractor says the network will eventually serve whole of Ipoh area. Sounds good since Unifi is not serious making any efforts here in Ipoh.

Sounds like somebody outside TM is hearing to our needs. brows.gif

Not sure whether what the contractor say is true, even is true also no idea when it going ready as you know those worker, simply job can take up to few months to years, lol. Secondary is the pricing and the speed they offer, this is the most important things, and yea i'm glad they hear us. I think Unifi going available next year right, but in Jelapang area, how fail, lol. Anyway hope this available soon, keep update to us.

Cheers!

No signs of Unifi until now at postcode: 31650 where Pasir Putih, Pengkalan and new Aeon Station 18 is located nearby.

Now the only Unifi infrastructure seen only in 31400 which is Tasek exchange (Kg Simee, Taman Shukor, Tambun Baru, Sunway & part of Ipoh Garden). That also still many areas such as Canning Garden, Fair Park all nothig seen yet.

Also Jelapang 30020 is yet to be available in their Unifi availability site check.

If TM going to start laying at Pasir Putih, maybe another 2 years from now lah.

At least Time/Maxis have better understanding of high demand than TM laugh.gif

They are targeting places such as GeorgeTown, Gurney and Ipoh City.

Ipoh Central's postcode is 30000 leading down to Jln Pasir Putih which ends around Pasir Putih/Pinji/Pengkalan suburb with 31650

This is where most of the city's population are mainly concentrated within city limits.

No doubt majority of the population are Chinese.

I tried searching for some info on this and this was what I found out:

The setup here is the exact thing which Maxis trialed in Bangsar Baru and Damansara some 2 years ago where they started pulling fibre on TNB poles.

Further search revealed that one of the forumer here is connected to this Maxis exclusive fibre network. His handle is Kampung2005

The equipment setup by Maxis as posted by him:

All TM Unifi infrastructure is accessible for Maxis Fibre Home but the opposite is not true if the network is exclusively owned by Maxis themselves like the ones in Bangsar Baru, Sierramas and Bandar Utama.

Correct me if I'm wrong.Nothing in the recent press mentioned that Maxis is allowing TM to provide Unifi on their own built fibre network for the way around but they are paying TM Wholesale for access to the HSBB instead.

There are good and bad points for this.

An exclusive network allows the network operator to have full control over it.
Things such as more bandwidth reservation for each user to allow more STBs to be installed and higher bandwidth packages. Risk of wholesale operator prioritizing own isp etc.
You don't need to be accompanied by TM technicians along with Maxis technicians for installs.

Downside: Less choices unless other players such as Jaring, P1, Time and NTT willing to sign up with Maxis last mile wholesale.

do you think they need to use other company network? or maybe they have money and expertise to build their own nationwide faster than anyone in malaysia or in the world..

It's a 2 edged sword actually.

Maybe they don't have the funds and expertise as said.

But I'm happy that some other telco is being serious in their business direction and willing to cover my area which TM is reluctant to offer.

"reluctant" laugh.gif assuming is a bad negative attitude... network development is base on demand.. if you want it, demand for it, if only you alone wants it and the rest dont.. whats the point
so the secret is, get "alot" of your people put it on the demand list...
besides maxis aka astro is going for cable tv.. they are looking at astro demographic instead of internet

I'm not sure if TM Business Research does its network planning by using demand list entries but it's not quite an accurate way of evaluation. "Astroturfing" does exist:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astroturfing

Someone could simply key in fake credentials or someone else's details just to put demand in your "DEMAND LIST" if they wanted to.

This is a typical home located in Taman Shukur:
user posted image
http://www.ipohhouse.com/search/label/Bercham

Why is TM targetting areas such as Taman Shukur as one of the 1st in Ipoh to roll out Unifi left many people questioning in the dark.

Homes such as this are already covered by Unifi but not for homes that cost 10X more close to a million?
If you have say in the ISP, which area would you choose to service instead?

Key in 31400 under address keyword and you will find it covered already.Even open for registration.

https://occ.unifi.my/HSBBCustomerPortal/HSB...e_checkcoverage

A smart telco would look at its customer spending habits and ARPU by area. Not merely by looking at "Demand List" that could possibly be made up.

To have Maxis considered my area, I'm sure they have enough statistics and demand to justify their decisions. My area is still part greenfield with gated communities sprucing up. We were one of the 1st to have Jaring Flite ADSL as alternative broadband in Malaysia.

Not very effective way because it can be invalidated just like "undi palsu". Astroturfing is like ghost voters.

A person who wants to increase demand/votes his area could just make fake entries as many as he/she like.
