Lol...welcome to the club kuman. It's a modelers syndrome... buying more than we could build haha. I think I have about 200 unbuilt kits in store now. Have to slow down on buying and get down to building. It's gonna last me till my next generation hehe.
*
yea.. that is just a very bad Syndrome indeed... my wife started to make sound already... all buying no result... smile.gif smile.gif so i'll need to complete a couple of model to prove to her that i'll build what i've purchased.. smile.gif... i'll need more time... smile.gif

thumbup.gif

thanks for the pic kelvw.. smile.gif very nice indeed...
as for the workshop.... the kids need to bring their own kits? or the kits are provided for them?

on the other note... i notice that the ScaleModelsMalaysia is about to organise a Swap & Trade Meet Details Here

so anyone going?
if i'm going.. sore i'll buy more models that i can chew on.. smile.gif

thanks...

Hi Kuman

Thanks for joining for forum smile.gif We need the support of more modellers to keep this hobby alive. The kits were actually sponsored by HobbyHQ for the kids  thumbup.gif  otherwise it'll be too expensive for them to mess around with.

I'm not sure what's happening with the swap meep tho. I just got to know haha. Hmm I'll have to see what I don't need in my stash. Will you be coming down to KL?
*
smile.gif no problem.. smile.gif
the sponsored kits are actually only for kids? can an adult like us have that kits as well if we join the Beginners workshop?

.. i wish i can come down to KL... sad.gif got a lot of "kenduri" during that time...
i really need to allocate sometime next year to join such an event in KL...until then.. thanks to you for providing us with the pics.. smile.gif

yup... with over 200 model-kits.. there surely something that you dont need in that stash of yours.. smile.gif

hmm anyone plan to organise a bulk on air craft models?
btw guys what sort of paint u use on your model planes? saw tamiya arcylic paint in jusco today RM14.9 per small bottle...

and for average each plane has 20++ different colours....
20 x 14.9= woot!!!!
*
the thought of organizing a bulk did cross my mind (of someone else's mind smile.gif )
but the thought of tax etc is very unpromising.... smile.gif or maybe someone can really clear this matter (like have an inside person in kastam etc) then yeah.. maybe someone can bulk it....

maybe Jackygwh would like to organize it.. smile.gif
i'm still waiting for my first order from HLJ... maybe after i receive it, then maybe can consider to bulk.. smile.gif

as for paints...

i bought Tamiya arcyclic like you say.... but i use it for hand painting... and use either the Tamiya spray cans or a normal industrial cans also for painting....

it depends.. if you're painting airliner... hmmm 20 colors / plane is possible...
if just a normal plane .. i think you would need to have a lot of color...

for mw i only have 4 kind of Tamiya PSray cans.. all was a bout the most general color used by most air force.. that grey thinggy.. smile.gif

1/60 Macross PERFECT TRANSFORMATION
will be release in next year-april 2006
*
so . do they have an estimated price yet for the model... its going to cost an arm and a leg to get those... and in such a big scale as well.. smile.gif thumbup.gif

QUOTE(direwolf @ Dec 14 2005, 03:53 PM)
Depends...but if you are a total newbie, starting from nothing, expect these prices:

1. Model kit (let's say 1/72 - lots of choices, not very big) : RM15 (WW2 planes) to RM129 (modern jet fighters)
2. Cement : RM19.90 per bottle (check out at hobby shops if they have cheaper ones)
3. Putty (to cover unsightly seams, if present) : RM9.90

*
the price estimation is about right... but for the putty.. what brand is that?? i thought.. Tamiya one is around RM 20++... IIRC last time i bought...
as for the cement.. some kits includes a tube of the cement.. but to make assembling easier.. try to get that cement dispenser.. with needele point.. easier to use.. smile.gif

for the models for beginnner.. i would suggest to go and get the elcheapo-china-brand model such as from Kitech/Zhengdefu... those are really cheap and suitable for beginners to practice.... hey i still use them... cheap and easy to find.... smile.gif

@Jackygwh

Coz these days CHINA is doing the supply ma.. haha.. biggrin.gif

but the reliability is quite questionable.. but for initial test run can laaa.. smile.gif

Whoops! My mistake...should be 19.90!

Yes the cheapo PRC kits would be useful for ultimate beginners (cheap, reasonably good-looking). Besides, the cheapo kits would become a perfect target for firecrackers...OK not that. Perfect target for testing new techniques in completing your model. I have an old Corsair as weathering testbed.
*
hi there ....

maybe you can show us your models then... smile.gif

poor lil Corsair... at least its contributing or a a greater good...

i still use the cheapo models as my primary kits..... the models shown above are from Kitech/Zhengdefu... smile.gif

pretty neat although the lack of skill from my side really shows in that built.. sad.gif

Emm.. this thread is dead?
Well, anyone can recommend any shop in malaysia selling Dragon Wings? or local websites? US based sites selling those models with delivery fees almost equal to the price of the model.. ie 24usd model with 20usd delivery fees... very expensive..
*
smile.gif not dead...laa..

as for me .. now i'm trying to figure out which model should i build next... still undecided since my latest project YF-22 aircraft.. is almost finish assembling...
now waiting for some freetime to paint it.... and also need to get somemore paint for that matter...

what i have in que and most probably will build enxt are.. Su-27 Flanker B (1/48), or MIG-29 Fulcrum (1/32) or Macross Zero VF0S (1/72).

still undecided.. but i most probably start with the SU-27.. smile.gif

Dragon Wings
as for these.. maybe you can try our neighbour- Singapore- they have a distributor there... hmm let me see if i can find the link..

Time Machine Studio - Dragon Distro in S'pore

maybe the shipping would be a lil bit cheaper.. smile.gif

*

I've thrown away most of my aircraft models. This is the only model I actually spent money on a casing for -- the Grumman F14A Tomcat.
*
laa.... lost interest on the model already is it?? smile.gif

QUOTE(Balthasar @ Jan 11 2006, 03:18 PM)
Try out HobbyHQ in Ampang there. Very easy to go...in fact just hop into a LRT and head for AMPANG PARK...PUTRA that is... Come out opposite CITIBANK, head towards CITYSQUARE(which is opposite midf building and on top of toys-r-us...its on the third floor like someone already mentioned.
Lotsa great stuff there u dun find elsewhere. Definitely not a waste of time.

If u are looking for good quality models, then this is the place u must not miss. Expensive? yes but u are paying for good stuff. They also do have cheaper stuff too but once u tried a good model, anything lower is just no fun.

Got my Tiger 1 there...looking for more laugh.gif
Love those kits with photo etched parts or brass parts cooooool but tough to put together. Need to organize properly.
*
thanks for the direction of going there.. although i havent been there myself..
i heard a lot about that shop.. maybe will stop by there IF i go to KL again.. smile.gif

kuman

BTW: below is my latest project.. just finish painting yesterday.. but still no decals yet.. maybe a bit later.. smile.gif

the YF-22 Raptor the shot a lil bit dark and shaky

kuman.... when u bought tat ?? huh.gif tat one looks like earlier got one member's rapter... i mean the size biggrin.gif so big.. but ur photo are too small wink.gif
*
smile.gif

i bought it at a departmental store near my place here...

the scale is 1/72 KITECH brand.. not very accurate but will do for the purpose of learning...

i'm learning to properly use putty and sanding with this kit... it seems to be ok... smile.gif

yup.. some member also have a Raptor build before.. but his is more superior then mine because of the skill and techniques he uses.. smile.gif

the pic size is small because i dont want our dial-up user to suffer due to the time it would take to load the picture.. smile.gif so i resize it a lil bit.. smile.gif

now i'm working on a 1/48 Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker "B".. dunno when can finish.. smile.gif

Kuman, just a word of caution about using putty. Don't overdo it. In hot weather, it sorta breaks down and leaves cracks noticeable. wink.gif
*
QUOTE(Balthasar @ Jan 12 2006, 10:31 AM)
Yup...dun use to thick putty or it will crack...looks ugly.

And as for handling ur model, try not to do it so often with your hand unless you have had a clear layer over it or the colors will detach.
sweat.gif
*
thanks for the heads-up...

when you said clear layer.. will using FUTURE consider as clear layer?
i'm thinking of using FUTURE as the last coating after using decals.. smile.gif

this is from my latest build...

actually last nite i apply some putty... after sanding.. this is what i have so far...

will that consider as thick putty?

a lil bit of putty left.. need more sanding..

one question, i would like to layer my final product with some sort of a transparent layer.

Those normal clear spray sold at Jusco does the trick? or do i need a special one.

I am using a mix of enamel and acrylic paint.
*
hmmm,,... i dunno if you already heard of a product called FUTURE..

they are sold in Ace Hardware for RM 40.50.

they are great for final coating... give it a try...

i used it with brush... .

as for the uneven paint.. i have no idea.. if you use an airbrush... since i myself have no experience with airbrush...

post the pic...
====

BTW.. what kind of airbrush & compressor u use? i'm thinking of getting 1 set.. any idea i can get it at a reasonable price... smile.gif

i no money for airbrush ler.

Using normal spray and paint wif brush. I took the pic but dunno how to load into pc cos i lost the camera software CD.

I went surveying for airbrush, and the pen is around 300, and compressor is around 500. Roughly the whole set is 800-900RM. I saw them in ToyCity.

I went to Miniture Hobby, and saw an airbrush too but compressor is expensive at 1k, theirs is those bigger compressors.
*
no need airbrush..

the FUTURE solution i mentioned above can be applied using a brush straight OUT-OF-THE-BOTTLE...

i also surveying for an airbrush set.. still not getting around getting any...
still using brush + Tamiya Arcyclic & Spra cans.... smile.gif

so.. for brushing what brush and what paint do u use?

i heard a lot about Sable Brush.. but very expensive.. smile.gif

smile.gif

its not very detail, i guess that's what infected_sys is saying...

yup... the panel line is not that clear... maybe another "macro" shot of the wings/fuselage would clear this up.. smile.gif

i guess its a die-cast...

if its a plastics model then its a different story already.. smile.gif

what scale is it? 1/72?

thanks..
