waaa rupanya many ppl in Lowyat ere into aircraft modelling as well.. smile.gif

i got a couple as well.. but most of them i havent painted yet... the one 've painted are all using normal aerosol paint (RM5.50)

here is what i have for the moment and this a old shots as well... noted that the F14 Tomcat and the F18 Hornet "dambuster" is a diecast metal model.. scale 1:48 the rest is plastics from the elcheapo China brand.. Kitech and Zhengdefu...

i do have Revell-Monogram models waiting to be assembled... MIG-29 Fulcrum (germany Marking) scale 1:32, Panavia Tornado (Saudi Arabia marking) and A10 Thunderbolt - scale 1:72 and a Eurofighter Typhoon 1:48 scale. all of those are Revel-Monograms model.. cost quite expensive especially the MIG 29 one..RM290 shocking.gif my expensive one yet...

I bought a F-14D Tomcat years ago. Hey did u guys buy Air Combat Collection magazine? There is free aircraft model.

I got three now :
F-86 Sabre
F-4U Corsair
Mig-29
*
yea.. i saw this magazine as well.. thinking of buying it as well... not its in the 13 issue right?? i missed all the first ones... so the MIG-29 one is the latest issue is it?? and the magazine itself is RM15 right?? hmm i really need to start buying this magazine... its kinda hard to find a good publication in the newstand nowadays with regards to aircraft... hmmm

the scale for all of this is 1:144 right? i have a few with this scale as well.. all die cast one....

QUOTE(infested_ysy @ Oct 21 2005, 02:45 PM)
Not really, I saw dozens of die cast Malaysian Airline planes being sold at ToyCity. Though they're ridiculously expensive (say, RM700 for one that's about 15cm long?)
*
i think i saw a couple of these model airliner in THE STORE hmm each is about RM10 if i remember correctly.. i didnt buy since i concentrate more on military aircraft especially modern fighters and going to venture to military helicopters later...

QUOTE(Dark Steno @ Oct 21 2005, 07:52 PM)
I have an Su 37 but the condition is not very well.
*
i have a SU35... the condition is ok for a Zhengdefu brand... i've painted them (using spray cans) just didnt put on the decal yet.... you can see it in the photo above (although its not very clear) i'll take another pic soon.. and post it here next week... smile.gif and mine is at a 1:42 scale... smile.gif

i definitely need more time to finish all of my models.. since i can't stop buying .... luckily "the WIFE" is very understanding.. smile.gif thumbup.gif

now working on assembling the YF-22A.. 1:72 scale.. half way done already...
pic as above...

cool.gif cant wait to post more pic soon... smile.gif

har? 10 bucks, can elaborate more ar, like what plane are they are they china made plastic kits.
*
i think its a die-cast model.. the scale is 1:144... quite small... for more details i'll stop by the shop later... maybe i can find out more... or maye i'll buy 1 just to show how its look like.. i think the shape and everthing is quite accurate... but maybe the tyre part is not very detail...

anyway i'll check it out later and let you know... since i have to get another F14 or Eurocopter model anyway... smile.gif

wow...

so susah...got those that ready simplier to build ?
nvr bought so lots of questions...
*
for beginner.. i think you can get those cheap model from Kitech or Zhengdefu... that can get you going in the right direction until you're comfortable with the modelling stuff then invest on a more detail model such as the one from Academy... smile.gif

The Kitech brand can get from RM19.99 to RM21 for a 1:72 scale model.... still need to paint and assemble the thing.smile.gif

for easiest one get the snap-on model... smile.gif

i've yet e=venture to the difficult modelling.. so far ok la... but as i mentioned i do have those Revell-Monogram model.. dunno about the detail level.. but i'll soon find out... when i finish all of my cheap model first.. smile.gif

i bought my Kitech & Zhengdefu model kit from THE STORE and Parkson although some time Parkson do carry those expensive stuff as well.. smile.gif

my 2 rupiah..

i think another good publication would be World Air Power Journal

they features a very good details on aircraft including some cutaways, walkaround etc but sadly to say the magazine already being discontinue from publishing thus rendering it unavaiable to the user here.. smile.gif

The last issue is Winter 2000.

One fellow modeller from UK have his own collection of this publication, he willing to sell it but it would cost thousand of ringgit in shipping and handling charges alone for it to be send here to Malaysia... so i just scrap the idea and settle to the normal Aircraft Encyclopedia i can find in bookstore nationwide.

An Illustrated Anatomy of the World's Fighters: The Inside Story of over 100 Classics in the Evolution of Fighter Aircraft (Hardcover) - By William Green = a good reference for the Cutaway of Aircraft although its only in black and white.
Aircraft Cutaway book Reference

hmm what to do.. we're always left out here in Malaysia when it comes to a good aircraft publications..

smile.gif

again my 2 rupiah contributions.. smile.gif

now this is interesting.... smile.gif

i noticed that you use a black masking tape over the cockpit area.. what tape is that??
i've been using a lil bit of Tamiya tape.. but i find that the Tamiya Masking tape is VERY expensive.. so now i'm looking for a replacement tape that can be obtained locally...

coincidently.. I'm building my F-22 as well but at a smaller scale 1:72 from KiTech.. not very accurate, but will do smile.gif

what kind of coating u use? i heard so much about FUTURE.. ever come across those thing in Malaysia?

you did a fine job here.. did you submit your creation to Aircraft resource Center Modelling
it would be a fine addition to the Malaysian submission to the site.. smile.gif

i really wish i got an airbrush set... now stuck with spray aerosol cans (Anchor, Bosny & Tamiya) only sad.gif

Umm..actually the cockpit is black  sweat.gif it's not a masking tape haha. I usually use the tamiya tape and ocassionally normal masking tapes on less important areas. Tamiya tape is still the best so far  thumbup.gif

final coating is Future  tongue.gif  Not sure if could be obtained at ACE hardware these days. I bought it few years back when not many modelers knew about it. Now all kena sapu and the price went up too.

I don't think kitech produces nice kits. If you're going for the F-22 1/72... try MiniHobby (trumpeter)
*
hmmm... i dunno that the cockpit is black... smile.gif
so.. there are no replacement for Tamiya Masking tape then.. sad.gif hmmm
i used the normal masking tape(white tape)on one of my model before.. but the adhesive was very kuat so ruin my model already... so i'll need to remove the paint and hopefully be able to repaint that model.. smile.gif
when you said normal tape.. you mean normal-everyday-transparent tape?

yup.. FUTURE is the thing... here in northern region.. noplace to find this material... been looking for it for ages.... sad.gif

- Yup.. KITECH/ZHENGDEFU doesnt produce a good model kits... but they would suffice for a beginner like myself.. i have a couple of KITECH/Zhengdefu fully assembled... but havent got a change to paint yet... smile.gif

- thanks

*
hmm smile.gif

i can list on the northern region as what i know laa.. smile.gif

Wah Lee Toys (Behind Prangin Mall) - Kitech/ Zhengdefu kits
The Store - Kitech kits (aircraft, tanks, aircraft carriers)

hmmm thats about it .. smile.gif

last time i buy 1 tamiya Su-34 build half oredi but i abandon it becos too lazy.... anyway how much is a paint cost?????? and how long is the time to make a nice model??  unsure.gif

last ym my relative is Academy main distributer  in malaysia(yep the 5B company) i always ask for teh kit whenever i wanted to do but now tehy stop importing liao

wat is the deffrence betwenn the brands like tamiya, academy, trupeer and etc????
*
paint cost hmm.. IIRC last time i did buy a couple of the basic color from Tamiya hmm it cost around RM14 per color.. i dunno if this is the color they use with airbrush and for the Tamiya aerosol cans around RM27/can.... last week i found this Gunze color cost around RM7/color... when i bought the color i was planning to hand-brush the model... so i dunno if this can be use with airbrush or vice versa....

why they stop importing models? if not maybe we can bulk order from you smile.gif

difference.. hmmm... i for one havent try those high quality model kits... but from what i heard the accuracy is a bit different from each and the price as well... i have Revell-Monogram model kits and the most expensive so far is RM259 (MIG-29 1:32 scale), still havent build becoz i was so afraid i might spoilt the painting job later... so saving for when "if" i can afford an airbrush set...

so anyone planning to do BULK on airbrush.. smile.gif i dont think we can order paint from outside right? because of Kastam thinggy with the content of the paitn.. but i think we can do bulk on airbrush set.. smile.gif
so receommend some mr Kelvw smile.gif

QUOTE(Kelvw @ Oct 29 2005, 08:32 PM)
HobbyHq is at the 3rd floor, City Square KL. Just next to YowChuan Plaza. Plenty of gunze paints and other accessories. Kits are not cheap though as they carry exclusive stuff e.g Hasegawas, Academy, Tamiya, Trump etc. But then if you're looking for quality kits... smile.gif

Oh yea.. the avenger is up on display in MidValley
*
why is it i have the feeling that the HobbyHQ somehow got an affiliation with you Kelvw smile.gif unsure.gif ... which is good thumbup.gif ... maybe all of us here in LYN can go and buy stuff from you at a very special price.. thumbup.gif notworthy.gif

QUOTE(minizian @ Oct 30 2005, 09:25 PM)
hey is Tamiya kits still avalable in Malaysia after ots official presence is no more becos toy city stop importing Tamiya prodcut oredi.....

H0w should i start modeling i have made alot of model but all usually sucks (with no painting) and how much to cost if 1 set included all teh paiting essencial???? where got sell some all in 1 pak for modelling??? (which include all the twezzer cutter and etc???
*
hmm Tamiya kits. i noticed there are still some laying around in ToyCity in Penang area.. maybe not many modelers are from Penang... and maybe the price is just expensive.. smile.gif.
for essential stuff for building.. hmmm i used a common scissors, a normal tweezer, a small cutting plyer, a normal cutting blade and a couple of clips and rubber band.. smile.gif i find that the Tamiya brand is way expensive... but if you go for quality then you cant go wrong with Tamiya stuff.. smile.gif

as for painting essential... maybe Kelvw can have a say on this.... smile.gif for handbrushing.. get a high quality brush... those el-cehapo one the "bulu-bulu" will come off easily and ruin your model....

and get a pair of still hands... you gonna need it.. smile.gif
paint the aricraft from from to back in an orderly fashion.. to make it have a natural feel of air flowoing from the front of the aircraft to the nback.. smile.gif

well.. again my RM0.25 "duit raya" contribution.. smile.gif

BTW: i saw this lil ad in a magazine called PERAJURIT... the ads show that this one company is selling Malaysian Airforce accurate decals... maybe worth a look....

QUOTE(infested_ysy @ Oct 31 2005, 09:18 AM)
I've gone to checkout diecast aircraft models just yesterday, and I can't help but feel disgusted at the lack of quality of the stuffs I saw (I forgot the brand for it already, but I remember the logo being a gold square, with something like a huge "S" on the middle, and the same company also did other stuffs like 1:18 diecast bikes, cars, tanks and whatnot).

90% of the planes I've saw have like, a ridiculously smooth body. There's no real panel lines (other than flat looking black lines that are directly airbrushed/printed on the planes) on them, and the color on them looked flat. Sure, aircrafts in reality are flat, but meh, they could've at least make use of the airbrush and paint on some makeshift shadow on them to make them feel 'real', if you get what I mean >_>. What's more, I don't really fancy model kits/toys that are HUGE (lol Americans only buy things that are as HUGE as an Xbox).

But still, why die cast? Why not plastic? It's easier to make more detailed moulds easily on the plastic, and it's not as if plastics aren't sturdy (not like you're going to throw the thing across the room anyway, the models just spend the rest of the eternity sitting on your desk/display cabinet to gather dust once you've bought them anyway).

Hell, just look at what the Japanese managed to produce (and they're cheaper too. Either that, or all the stores I've went to overcharged by selling those die cast aircrafts at RM19.90~29.90 a piece, because the Japanese 1/144 miniatures retails at 250~400yen, around RM10~RM16):

*
easy there... smile.gif

smile.gif well.. i think i saw in the ToyCity here last time they have this airliner model.. 1:144 scale and selling for RM300... and the details are just superb...smile.gif but no parents are willing to buy this plane for their 4-5 years old kid.. smile.gif (i know i wouldn't) this is when the un"real"-die-cast-model come into play.. smile.gif

in comparison.. those die-cast model you refering to is for kids... not for a collectors who were really looking for the "real" factor in our collection.. smile.gif

and if a kid playing with the plastic model.. it would broke of easily (my daughter used to do that with my scale model sweat.gif) so thats why they have this ceapo die-cast model.. for them (kids) to throw it in the air, across the room and hoping for it to "fly" without risking to break it.. smile.gif

but i can understand the frustation trying to find a decent model for our collection... i for one sometimes try to order some stuff from outside just for the details and superb looks at a cheaper price too smile.gif

anyway... nice looking Hind copter there.. (is it?) your personal collection? smile.gif

It's so pathethic, that nobody would still bother with them even though there's a 50% discount off their cheaper RM12 diecast aircrafts).
drool.gif maybe again there's not enough market there... they should have this sale all throughout Malaysia then for collector of the-not-so-real model can get them at a bargain price.. smile.gif

QUOTE
But still, World Tank Museum series are cheap, and so are most of the shokugan 1/144 WWII/modern day aircraft/tank miniatures that I've seen on websites/Japanese hobby magazines, and they're detailed. Don't see why they don't sell those...
i think aircraft is more appealing to customer nowadays...

QUOTE
It is times like this that I wished STPM would just end like, today, and I get some proper job instead of being a free worker for my parent's shop, get a credit card, and start spending gazillion bucks ordering boxes of the 1/144 miniatures straight from places like hlj.com.
yup.. everyone wish that smile.gif but later when get proper job... the priority also shifted.. smile.gif but again nothing can stop us from spending out hard earned money right.. smile.gif

i for one is trying to finish my current bundle of model kits before venturing further in buying more kits that i'll not have time to build... smile.gif (except when there a good kits and the price is right model kits hangin around in Hobby shop) .. smile.gif

as for the diecast model.... hopefully the "wife" would give them as a present for any occasion at all.. maybe anniversary etc... since she's a great fan of those die-cast model... smile.gif

i'm beginning to like commercial airplane as well... but some of them is unbelieveably expensive for such as small scale (as what i saw in ToyCity, scale 1:144 = RM300 shocking.gif).. but for now i'll have to settle with military aircraft.. since as i mentioned before... no time to assemble.. smile.gif

Haha I'm not affiliated with HobbyHq la but I do visit them quite often. Usually they'll have modellers meetup on Saturdays. Quite interesting to see what others are building and technique sharing. Anyways...HobbyHQ is just opposite AmpangPark.

I have yet to see the new 1/32 SU-27 built by a fellow modeller in MiniatureHobby. It's gonna be huge!!

As for airbrushes... I bought mine from HLJ.com for a pretty good price. Trips to HK will be a good idea too as it's cheap there. Bought some handpiece there as well.
Oh yea.. those el-cheapo brushes will be more frustrating to paint. Better to get some good brushes/airbrushes to save headaches later on. So far I've been happy with brushes from Tamiya HG series. Abit expensive but worth it. Art brushes are good too but you'll need to be selective of it as some won't hold much paint.

I started off with ArmourCollection series of diecast planes too wink.gif that's when I moved on to scale models. I think it's quite worth it if you're a serious collector as it really heavy and the scale is pretty good. Only downside is it's too darn expensive to collect. Wish I could show u guys the collection but it's all boxed up at the moment... no place to display it. Wife will kill me too... haha
*
smile.gif just a wild guess of your affiliation there smile.gif
they have a meetup every Saturdays... wowo that just awesome.. i really wish they have some kind of modeller club or something up here in Penang area... unsure.gif or maybe they just not as active as the ones in KL.. smile.gif

maybe there are other modeller out there in Penang area.. since i saw this model kits (KITECH brand) always out of stock in my local THE STORE eventhough they just stock up the thing a couple of weeks ago... smile.gif hmmm maybe i need to ask the cashier to take the telephone number of anyone that bought the model kits.. smile.gif

1:32 SU-27... drool.gif that would be an awesome build... i really love the big-big scale model kits... but the building process have to be very details since its big and we can see every bit of details in it... i have one MIG29 1:32 scale.. but too afraid to build.. smile.gif

i'm going to refer to this guy build when i build my MIG smile.gif
same as this MIG-29 Fulcrum A 1:32 scale

anyway... in conjunction with Raya... i rearrange my messy display cabinet and realize that i most probably need another cabinet to dispaly all my model properly... and it will take up space in the living room and the wife is not going to be really happy about it.. although he approved of my hobby... smile.gif

*
smile.gif it depends... for me i took me quite sometime to paint because of hand painting mix with the use of normal aerosol paint.. maybe roughly around 2 weeks on and off... maybe longer if you include weathering etc.. smile.gif

with airbrush ... i have no idea.. maybe faster? unsure.gif

waaa.. so fast ahh you build a model kit.. i think some of a serious modeller out there took 4-6 months to built the kit alone... including all the detailing of the craft.. smile.gif for me i usually built (minus the painting) took me 3 months on and off between work, family and other commitment.. smile.gif.. it just me though...

i sometime also do speed building... sometimes cannot sabar to see the final product... when its turn out to be ugly... then realize need to be slow and steady.. smile.gif then have to buy the same model kit again and then build again in a slower pace.. smile.gif

so.. your relative still distribute ACADEMY product? they willing to supply us with cheaper Academy model kits?? smile.gif thumbup.gif

maybe can find cheaper one there in China.. since most of the "not-top-of-the-line" are from there... smile.gif

wow.... its even expensive then Revell-Monogram.. i guess the quality is much better compared to Revell's one.. smile.gif

maybe they can help by promoting it here.. then more people will know about it...
we need more supplier that are willing to puch the model-kits to the people.. smile.gif (i sound like a politician now smile.gif )

PM replied.. smile.gif

i try as much to paint my model.. but with handbrushing and aerosol cans.. it just getting tedious after each build to pain them.. i have a couple of the complete model on shelve that havent been painted yet.. sad.gif

well.. maybe once i got the airbrush set.. then i can paint them all properly.. smile.gif
