Hey guys so I just got my Unifi vip 10 today and I wanted to get a new all-in-1 modem.

But when ask the retailers whether the Tp-Link & Asus routers (reccomended by klseet. Thx btw) can support unifi and they said their not sure.

They told me no refunds after purchase and that Unifi uses special settings in their default DIR-615 and I will have to bear the risk.

So I only got a surge protect extention and a telephone cable. No modem.

tl;dr: Can any unifi sifu's advice if on how I should go about changing/replacing my modem?
*
All the models listed in klseet.com except the TP-Link 741ND you can buy. For tp-link, either 841ND/1043ND, requires custom firmware. Take it to lowyat TP-link service centre and ask them to flash for you if it's not flashed. Else, flash yourselves. Not hard at all. Just follow the guide carefully thumbup.gif

QUOTE(ExCrIpT @ Nov 26 2011, 12:17 PM)
guys, I tried the unifi.athena way adding the additional router to the dir615.

I downgraded it to 7.05, uploaded the settings, I can connect directly via pc to dir615 to the black modem but I tried connecting using my own router - dir615. I am unable to do so, i dunno why.

Fed up, I linked my own router directly to the black modem and it can connect without much configuration. Any cons on that? without using dir615 as the vlan bridge
apart of not having the iptv set up that's all
*
What's the model of your old router? Unifi requires vlan tagging for it to work wor... U simply connect and setup also can use shocking.gif

Hey peeps, if i use the dir615 as a vlan bridge n another router as an access point.

Does the dir615 has to be 7.05 firmware? Or 7.09 will do.

Provided that i follow the http://unifi.athena.my/custom_routers.php steps
*
i did not flash it to 7.05, just use 7.09 and config the bridge mode. No stability issue with my WRT54GL flash with DDWRT.

i think should take latest firmware  hmm.gif  you better PM rizvanrp or klseet to confirm..
reset means you must reset the black huawei btu also. not just the dir615..

kinda obvious need to reset modem..

QUOTE(daniel_lyw @ Nov 26 2011, 01:24 AM)
i just get TM to install VIP5 package today yey!
but there seems to be a problem.. the router stated it has a wireless N signal
but no matter how i i tried i cant get connected to the wireless N signal, always stuck with 54mbps which is G signal

can anyone advice? thank you
*
are there any other non N wireless device connected? ANY G device that's connected to yur network will make yur other N device connect in G mode.

Disable other devices and try with only n device to check.

Each time i do the speedtest, the download doesn't move and suddenly it surges or spikes. Shown here circled in the screenshot. does anyone get the same response?

EDIT: the speed i get is caused by background downloading. usually around 4.75Mbps...but actual download with Filesonic is terrible now...about 100ish kbps.
