well...2 questions bundled into 1 forum post..so,yeah..too general i think tongue.gif

ok,can u at least answer this..
"what things should i do after i get the unifi complete"?
will the bundled router enough to perform as an all-in-one router? got QoS in it?
or must I change the router as soon as i can afford it?

I owned only the D-link DIR615 from TM and changed it to TP-Link 841ND.

QoS? Got... but don't know what it does. You can't do any allocation of bandwidth. Just one checkbox let you tick "Enable QoS" and key in your uplink bandwidth. That's all. Basically, just ignore its presence.

How many ppl is sharing and which package are you getting? If you solo, no need QoS lo but if sharing, you should get something else to replace it. In my case, a student house of 8 person sharing VIP5. It will restart itself once in a while and get restarted manually by my housemates everyday or maybe twice in a day. The problem is that its wifi is too weak, can't withstand even little interference from other wireless network. For me it's ok, I had problem with torrenting over wifi (it tends to dc my laptop from Internet but still connected to the router) while my housemates always can't detect the wifi. But I'm in my rooom and they're in living room and their room (condo unit, not landed property). The only solution is restart the router then they regain connectivity. I hate the restarts and hence suggested to replace the default router. So far so good thumbup.gif This router can do bandwidth allocation (TP-link doesn't call it QoS... It is not based on type of packets but just bandwidth). Refer to my previous post for its simulator to see how the thing is done there. You confirm can afford 841ND since it's just RM80+-. It just depends on whether you need those extra features a router can have. Gigabit/QoS/USB/... ... ... Else, 841ND will do the job just right.
Maybe you should give your default router received from TM a try first. Some forumers here have no problem with it but mostly replaced it.

Again, refer www.klseet.com for replacement. Credits to klseet wink.gif

bro, what did you do with the TP-Link 841ND? did you add on to the router or did you flash it?
I bricked my 841nd minutes ago and I'm still unsure of what to do.
Care to teach?

.... Why do you need that junk for print server??? You got those Asus routers with USB and also 1043ND right? These routers cannot use for print server?
No la, just trying to make the DIR-615 look a bit useful, this junk should be embarrass enough to occupy my store space without any useful contribution since day 1 laugh.gif

Joke aside, I haven't really try those ASUS or TPL router's USB on printers yet as I mostly use it to attach ext USB HDD, also I don't think all printers are supported, need to check their respective site to find out printer supported list.

That's my ASUS RT-N16 router, just doing some testing smile.gif

Exactly:
1. what is the TL-WR841ND version? (beta firmware support version 7.x only)
2. how did you flash it?

Try to hard re-set:
- unplug everything, both power & cat cables
- use a sharp object, press down & hold the re-set button (at the back of the router)
- while holding, insert power cable and on it
- continue to hold at least 30sec, you should see bunch of lights blink
- continue to hold, unplug power cable, hold for another 30sec
- release, wait for at least 1min

After that:
- clear your browser (try not to use IE)
- connect wire (not wireless) to the 841's LAN2/3 (make sure your PC is set to auto DHCP, not static IP)
- power-on, wait 1min, type 192.168.1.1, default user ID & password = admin

Then follow setup:
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=7&Itemid=6

If all fail, it's either:
a) you got the wrong version
b) if correct version, then you could have brick it --> bring back to LowYat Plaza 4th Floor TP-Link SC, tell them direct and get replacement

While finishing test on RT-N12-B1, I pull out the RT-N16 was planning to do some tests and I got this 210x IP blink.gif
[attachmentid=2547148]
Started around 9pm, tried to off/on BTU & router, still the same 210x range.....

When I first got my UniFi around July'10, it was always 110x, damn good & stable IP I must say.  drool.gif
Then around end of Dec'10, the 175x arrived, not very stable compare to 110x.  shakehead.gif
And now come the 210x, seem further & further now ..... I really hope TM is not making my VIP5 worst ....  shocking.gif  cry.gif

Really don't know what the hexx is TM doing, from good to worst ....  rclxub.gif
*
Im still getting IP ranging 172.xx

hmm.gif I think i lost several post here due to request time out error.. posted a few but...all went missing when refreshed..

so i think the culprit might be due to area/regional devices as friend of mine from wangsa maju is having smooth connection and i from pj area is suffering the timeout..

any people from pj area specifically bukit lanjan or bandar utama suffering this same shix..

i am going to shiat brix soon... icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

For the D-link, it's just as simple as mapping the USB port on the router to your computer. Can connect anything you want. It functions just like a physical usb port on ur PC. I think so... My printer no prob la. Canon MP258 here.

Most of the shop at lowyat now offer 841ND flashed with unifi custom firmware. Otherwise, you can bring up to top floor TP-link office and ask them flash. Else, follow http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=7&Itemid=6 guide and flash yourselves. I did it and it's very easy. Took me about 10mins to get it flashed and running. If you bought those without the custom firmware, No, you can't use it directly.

Anyone know if UniFi throttles VPN connection? Office just got UniFi Biz 20, but employee in office complain that they are not seeing any speed improvement even though stability improved. At first I was thinking it was because our line is shared among almost 200 employees and there's a bottleneck somewhere between our office and SEA datacenter in Singapore, but then I keep looking at the speed and feel that it's weird that the speed matches what I get when I VPN into US to watch Hulu from home (I'm using UniFi VIP 20 at home)? Our office network infrastructure is that we must have a permanent L2TP/IPSec VPN connection to datacenter.
