RM350 is still expensive. at that price people will just pay a bit more to get the mifi router.
@Rm350 its a RM200 premium over the e1762, and rm200 is a lot. Can pay the multisim fee for almost 13 months |

I think this link will help you with the E173
http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com/page/Huawei+E173 You need to open the back cover, check near the imei for the suffix on the E173, it will then tell you if there are bands 900/2100 or just 2100. |

u-1 and s-1 only got 2100.
I think basically this was used for rebranding purposes. Although from a marketing standpoint i do not understand why they didn't just systematically name their products. Even the E1762 has similar specs, no idea why theres another product code. It seems that huawei likes to have multiple product using same code, or multiple code with same product. |

173u-2 is good enough man.
Have you even tried it yet? Are you using the modem on its on via computer USB or via a 3G router? |

@korbin, why didn't you get the TPlink 3420?
@chuah, sometimes its not that don't want to buy, its a combination of 1) mafan to go service center to solve tech issues, 2) difficult to get the modem, 3) can't test the modem. lol.. @JO@NJS, if the simcard gives you issues, i've been told by chuah and CSO that you bring the modem and simcard down to service center. They will solve for you. Oh and my speedtest in pasir gudang johor 96ms DL: 0.78mb UL: 0.09mb Pathetic speed all day, HSPA signal is very intermittent. @korbin
The router too hot? I use TP link as well, their adsl modems, and sometimes got this issue, its usually when the router/modem is too hot. So I elevate it a bit to let air flow beneath. Where did you place your router? Try this, have your router angle about 30/40 degrees, use something to prop up one side of the router so that air can circulate beneath the router and see if you still get the modem hanging. If it continues, I think you better send it in for RMA. |

@korbin your sim is the small chip one. It works flawlessly with icon 505? Meaning if you direct connection on PC it works okay? And only with router it hangs?

O... then someone's comment on the small chip simcard isn't 100% correct. Maybe its only some batches of sims.
@korbin , mind telling how much you bought the icon 505 for? and exactly where? This post has been edited by MYstombox: Jan 9 2012, 08:38 PM |

YTL cannot fight la
Even my phone cannot get so fast speed with HSPA+. I get max was 9mbps on S2. Digilife, you're not entirely wrong, the CSO did tell me that the sim is incompatible with 2 SE phone models. And she did say that there may be incompatibility with non maxis branded modems but those she are not aware of. I suppose its not so much the size of the mini Sim chip, but rather some specific chip itself. |

Based on korbin's pic, is it defined as round or rectangular?

lol, bought from digilife. alamak. >.<
For what its worth, I can't seem to find sellers of USB modems in JB. Maxis shop only got E173, MF190 and the the 3.6mbps huawei one. I asked the shop if i can buy the E173 outright, they told me maxis controlling the sales so need to seek approval as many users buy and unlock. Whether its BS or not i don't know. I go to the IT mall and all the shops sell are Dlink modems. I don't really trust dlink anymore, so I'd rather just skip them. And they are mono band. |

Bring it to maxis service center?
Best is if you can prove that the modem works using another simcard. Then they will solve for you, its their problem anyway not yours if hardware works. |

He did say all his supplementary sims are small, which means he should either be the simcard a/c holder or has access to the a/c holder.
But yes, only the a/c holder can go maxis service center. @Jack - what config did you do? This post has been edited by MYstombox: Jan 10 2012, 12:49 PM |

@chuah, if we use asus ai charger, what about 3G router?
Can we do anything to boost power? Or is the USB port powerful enough. TPlink 3420 |

fruitie, don't worry la.
anyway, I got bad news. If the item cannot work, CS won't have any stock to replace. And I was informed that stock is difficult to obtain. So pray that it works. |
